Ron Blacks is your slightly above average beer bar. As far as the Mamaroneck Avenue strip in White Plains is concerned, it's the best of the bunch overall (Lazy Boy has taken a nose dive), but I would say from food to service, it's a strong 3-star establishment. The beer selection is what puts it ahead of it's competition. They carry a lot of Captain Lawrence and a good amount of seasonal beers year round. The food is typical bar food - if I was going to suggest anything, I'd go nachos (chicken) or the Thai chicken wrap/salad. The other plus - tater tots as a side option! It gets slightly less crowded then it's sister restaurant, Brazen Fox - and the patrons are more beer drinkers and less fist pumpers. read more

The night started out all right, but continued on a quick decline. One particularly rule, no hats or caps on males after a certain hour. This rule is incredibly antiquated and to some degree comes with a racial competency issue. It is no surprised they are living in the past being a suburban place catering to a specific type of individual. The irony of it all, they'll play music, appropriate and exploit persons of color culture while enforcing inhuman rules for engagement. The beer selection, while vast, comes with a significant cost. While offering a great deal of beer in selection you are paying premium. To those of us that have been to beer halls and gardens, this will come at a large surprise. Historically, beer halls provide deals since the beer is purchased at a whole sale and moves quickly. They classify themselves as a beer hall is pedantic, when in fact, they are nothing short of a money making machine with no consideration to the fabric of those from White Plains. This is the kind of business that should be shut down with the owner requested to never consider business in White Plains again. I would be curious to know what kind of kick backs the White Plains Police Department receives for their music reaches decibels that would give you permanent tinnitus. They USED to be good prior the expansion. Suggestion: Scale back on your attire rules, we as a society have move passed this to many degrees. You are not a nightclub - lower the music to a decibel that allows for conversation amongst friends. Alright!! Finally another beer bar in White Plains! Ron Black's just seemed to pop up out of nowhere a few weeks ago and the owner definitely has the right idea for creating a successful new addition to the other bars on this block. Everything in this place is brand new and very nice! You can still smell the wood finish in the air. Although this won't last for very long, it's very enjoyable...The bar is decorated very tastefully and even has a fireplace. All of the bartenders are very knowledgable and friendly which is a big plus as you can trust them to recommend a great beer to suit your tastes! It definitely seems like a great spot to relax and enjoy some tasty brews! So, the beer selection is very extensive, not quite at the level of Lazy Boy across the street but definitely a step above any other place in the area. Being a beer drinker, I just can't get enough. I am so happy that another bar on Mamaroneck offers this kind of selection! At the time of this review, the bar does not serve food but I spoke with the bartender last night and she told me a full kitchen and restaurant will be opening next door. She wasn't sure of the exact date but said it should be sometime over the next month or two. Bottom Line- Ron Black's is a great bar that does a lot right. Good bar, reasonable service, a crowd that ranges from the good-looking to the seasoned. The food is well presented, if standard fare, with a couple interesting twists: especially the chicken and avocado wrap. Stopped in town for a bite and some drinks with my girlfriend and I gotta say we were both disappointed with the food and drinks. I ordered the burger that had the ghost pepper cheese and ipa mushrooms. The burger was ok but it seemed like it was just one of those patties you get from the grocery store that is perfectly round lol. My girlfriend had the burger with the Brie cheese and she was not a fan. She thought the mushrooms looked dried and old like the were sautéed the day before. She said it was the worst burger she has ever had and still brings it up lol. I had the bourbon drink on their cocktail menu and it was just ok while my girlfriend had the peach bellini that had an orange slice in it for some reason. The menu said it would have fresh peach purée but it didn't look like it. So I won't be going to this place again. read more

Surprisingly, Ron Blacks is able to stand out from the other somewhat tacky restaurant/bars in White Plains. It does so by having a very good beer selection, a comfortable wide open atmosphere, and a burger that is pretty darn tasty. For me, those are excellent characteristics. I think this is one of my favorite bars on the avenue. They have a great beer selection (do the 40 beer challenge!), awesome trivia on Tuesday nights, and out of this world wings. Its nice to go to a bar on Mamaroneck Ave. that isn't dirty and disgusting (the women's bathroom is even clean!), and that, as an adult you don't feel out of place. One of my favorite bars in town. I recently had my moms surprise party here and it could not have been more perfect. The staff was amazing with setting everything up and catering to what we wanted. We had our own private section for a few hours which was so ideal. All of our guests couldn't stop raving about how great the food was and service between the waiters and the bartender. I recommend this place to everyone & hope to be able to have more events here in the future. read more

I recently went back to Ron Blacks after not being there for a while. They did a great remodel, opening the space and moving the bar to the center of the restaurant. This is a very good pub in White Plains. Their back patio is beautiful and very lively during the weekend. The food here is ok for pub food and I highly recommend their salads. They are huge, fresh and the pub offers a great selection. I am a huge fan of oysters and was excited to see they had an oyster special! The oysters were absolutely inedible: disastrously shucked and massacred and dirty. They would really benefit from hiring a shucker if they're going to offer oysters. read more

OMG this place has the best calamari I have ever tasted....I always turn my nose up at calamari because it usually taste rubbery however Ron Blacks has changed my mind I ended up eating half of my bf's order...I also had a burger and fries...the burger was delicious...ironically it wasnt heavy at all...I didn't care for the mussels he ordered but since I didn't order them I'm not going to hold it against them... FYI as I've stated before I'm not a beer drinker so I can't vouch for that this review is based off the food only.... I give Ron Blacks 3 stars for food only, beer selection is top notch and poured well. I've been with friends for drinks plenty of times and it always a good time. Bar service is good. Ron Blacks recently renovated and really opened the place up, its much roomier than it was when the place first opened. We wanted to try some food here for a change, so we ordered 4 appetizers, "yuengling shrimp," wings, calamari, and beer pretzels. Sadly the beer pretzels were the best part. Not only did these 4 apps come out within 4-5 mins of us ordering them, everything but the pretzels were clearly frozen - hence the speed of service. The shrimp had no trace of yuengling and were clearly from a large bag kept in a freezer, as was the calamari. In White Plains, you have to step up your buffalo wing game with The Lazy Boy Saloon being in town. Ron Blacks served up a mediocre sauce and the wings tasted cheap. Service was good despite my comments on the quickness of the food presentation. The waiter never let the ladies wine glasses empty, and beers arrived at a normal pace. If you want to grab a few beers in a cool atmosphere, definitely check this place out, just don't rely on it for bar food, go across the street to Lazy Boy. read more

Been to this place a couple times, once for happy hour, and once for brunch. Both were pretty good experiences. The place gets quite loud inside, but that's kind of the atmosphere it's going for. The happy hour specials are really good if I recall correctly. We got a massive order of sweet potato waffle fries for like $3. The drinks were well priced during happy hour as well, so I'd definitely take advantage of that. The food was good, but not great, but we weren't expecting anything over the top. When we went for brunch one day, this place definitely surpassed our expectations. They have a brunch menu that consist of traditional bar brunch food items. I got a breakfast sandwich and my wife just got a burger. The two meals were both pretty good and solid portion sizes. But what was especially nice, was that you get a free drink with brunch (beer, mimosa, Bloody Mary, etc.). Our final check was like $20 and we each had an entree and a drink. Tough to beat that. While the food that I had was good (fries), the environment was uncomfortable for myself and some of my other colleagues of color. The music on the jukebox is restricted from playing any R&B or hip-hop of any kind. Even radio artists such as Drake and Ella Mai who have appropriate and clean songs are barred. When I asked why, I was met with the response that the restaurant blocked them. If you are looking for an establishment with a fun and loose environment, this is probably not it. read more

Ron Blacks has that amazing pub look and feel you want to experience in a good pub. The space isn't overly crowded with furniture which makes it a very good space for groups. The beer selection is great. They have a large sample of mostly well known beers but still a few i was unfamiliar with. The menu has so many great choices. All of the apps look delicious. If you live in Westchester, people know White Plains has a great bar scene.. But when my friends ask me, "where should we go tonight?" I never say, White Plains... I say Ron Blacks. I am not going to waste time going into detail about how good a particular food item from their menu is... simply because their food is fantastic. And I'm not saying this like the guy who wrote a review about a certain place having great food and you go there only to find a few good choices. I am actually saying: THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC. Ok, next. I am not going waste time going into detail about how fantastic the beer selection is (and trust me, I am a BIG beer advocate)... basically because I can always count on Ron Blacks to provide an outstanding medley of brews... ranging from some of the best domestic craft selections to some world renowned, yet 'underground' items such as the ever-most refreshing, Veltins (and whoever orders a Veltins please have it with an orange peel it makes it awesome). They've even presented beer from the Weyerbacher Brewing Company in PA (which let's be frank, almost no place I go to has ever had their beer on tap). Lastly, I am not going to bother boasting about the amazing crowd you find at Ron Blacks... and this is only because their staff is truly exceptional, plus attentive to their customers! (Which I find to be rare at bars). Not to mention it was home to some of the single greatest nights out I have ever had with my friends... Did I mention they play phenomenal music? If I could give this place zero stars I could. I came in to Ron Blacks with my fiance to get a nice lunch. When we first walked in we were seated instantly and began looking at the menu. Almost all of their food contains bacon or mayo of some sort. I don't eat bacon, I actually hate the taste of bacon so was turned off by that. Our server came up and took our drink and meal orders. I told her that I would like the beer hall burger cooked well done and the side salad. I made it clear that I didn't want to see any pink in my burger and also asked my server if they use raw eggs in their salad dressing. She looked confused as to the question, given that I am pregnant and pretty clearly showing, this really should not have been rocket science. She then asked if I wanted a pepsi since my fiance ordered one.... ummmmmm see my belly?! The food came out and I cut into my burger to make sure that there was no red. The meat was almost raw, so I sent the food back. It came back out less then 2 minutes later and looked like some one had stuck it in the microwave..... the meat was still pink and raw. I was annoyed and ended up having to re order a more basic meal since the chefs here feel free to serve their customers raw meat. My new order came out and I ordered a steak melt. Roast beef with melted cheese.... it shouldn't be that hard right? WRONG! The meat was raw and giving up all hope I sent my food back. I ended up not eating anything and sitting hungry at my table while my fiance ate. Never coming back here again. I Love Ron blacks and I find myself coming here more and more since it's less packed most of the time on weekends, but still has a healthy crowd. I'd like to give this place 5 stars, but I won't only because of the inside decor compared to some of its counterparts on Mamaroneck Ave. This place isn't meant to be flashy however, so it pulls the old world look off well for what it is. Excellent beer selection, food is great, and there is a small patio out back. Ron blacks and Brazen fox are from the same people, so what's cool is you can go into brazens courtyard with a beer in hand from Ron's if you'd wish. I have nothing bad to say here, but I do slightly prefer Brazen over Ron's during the week and the day. Check it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed either way. read more

I recently came back to NY to throw my sister a bachelorette party. When I first started planning, there were several options on what to do and where to have it, but somewhere along my search I remembered that the last time I came home I wound up at Ron Black's and had a good time. So, after calling around a few other establishments in the Mamaroneck Ave area, I called here to get a quote and spoke to Breda. From the beginning, Breda was able to understand what I was looking for and offer up several different options as to what we could do. And for what she was offering, it was by far the best deal I had found. We finally settled on 25 girls in the front area, with a three hour open bar and heavy appetizers. When we got there, Breda greeted us along with Jose and Paco, our maitre d's for the evening ;) From start to finish, Jose and Paco were on point with everything - drinks, food, anything we needed. This wasn't the usual bar food deal either, where apps consist of cold mozzarella sticks, soggy potato skins and wings. Instead, Ron Black's hooked it up -shrimp skewers, sweet potato fries, mini burgers - even Jose's personal recipe of chicken fajitas from Cancun. The setup was great, the food was fabulous, and the service was perfect. They even dealt with all of the antics that comes along with a group of bachelorette party ladies (not to mention the bachelor party going on that infiltrated our party!) It was so nice to be able to enjoy a party and really participate without having to worry about the details, which I am so grateful that Ron Black's took care of for us. My sister kept saying over and over what a wonderful time she was having. We had planned on leaving Ron Black's once the three hour deal was over, but once that time came, we were having too much fun to go anywhere else. If you are ever booking a party in the future in the White Plains area, give Breda a call. I can't recommend it enough. read more

Great place to go for Sunday football. Ron Blacks has a large selection of beers on tap, and they have plenty of televisions with different games on, and even a couple of big projection screens. There is a large rectangle bar in the center, and booths around the perimeter of the space. During the summer, they open up the back patio which has additional seating and an outdoor bar. They really improved the decor and ambiance during their last renovation a couple of years ago. The food is also good, but I was a little disappointed with their Sunday brunch selections (not much to choose from). read more
