Oh dear lord, this tastes nothing like an east coast pizza. Where is the bot when you need it? I like the dining room atmosphere and all the tables. The decor on the walls looks like this would be a fun place to bring friends. The pizza was mediocre at best. Edible, but nothing jumping out to make it stand out. The sauce was bland, but at least they used a cup and crisp like pepperoni. Because it was carry out, can't rate too high or low on the service, except to say it was a very unpleasant experience just to walk in there. No smiles. No small talk. Barely an acknowledgment. More grunting than conversation. So matter-of-fact, I doubt either one of the two fellows remembers I was there! Part of me felt like an intruder. Not very cozy or comfy. I would like to preface my review with a statement that no one should do what I did, because it was stupid not to read the sign on the front door. Times change, so do the hours of restaurants. A few weeks back, I came to Roman's for lunch with a buddy. Having grown up coming here, I opened the door at 12:30pm on a Wednesday thinking nothing of it. We sat down, had a great interaction with Alex (owner), shared a big order of wings, had some sodas, left a $5 tip and left highly satisfied with our meal and service. Pretty cut and dry right? However, the reason I write this review is because the place wasn't even open when I came in. Despite this, Alex said, "Hey Davis! It's good to see you! I just got here. Are you guys here to eat?" The door was unlocked, and we walked in thinking the hours were the same as I remembered from my childhood. They weren't. They open at 3pm. I haven't been a consistent customer here since I left for college, and am only back periodically. But I look forward to this place every time I come home. I found out while walking by yesterday that Alex opened the place up 2 1/2 hours early for me. He said nothing of it for the full hour I was here. He knows my name and treats me with extreme kindness every time I come in. I think that's incredible dedication and kindness to the community from a local, small business. I love this place, and I'm incredibly thankful for this experience. Roman's has been a staple pizza and sub shop in Canal for years. I have seen the place go through a few owners, and I've enjoyed getting to know each one. For the last ten years, I have made sure to always leave a tip. This last time, I feel that I should have left a much larger one. I will always miss the old jukebox machine, but the new remodel is just what the place needed. It did really well for my HS Grad Party here in 2019. I think the pizza is good, the subs are even better, and the wings are surprisingly solid and stand up to our local wing shop nearby. Thank you, Alex, for serving the community well, and for taking care of this local staple. I specifically hope to see Roman's stocking the Pool and HS Stadium concession stands again. I would much rather see a local place like this get the business than some chain corporation. You rock, and so does your food. read more

What a great find! We were in the mood for pizza, being from NJ, we know it's a stretch finding decent pizza outside the NJ/Philly/NYC area. Well you've got it here in Roman's. We got the thin half cheese half pepperoni and we were pleasantly surprised. Not so thin it was like a wafer but not thick like Sicilian style pizza. Nice crispy crust, really tasty sauce and the pepperoni was nice and thin. The owner was great too and we wish him all the best. Wish we took more pictures but it was so good we forget until there was only a few slices left! Keep in mind this is not a fancy place, it's a bar that serves great pizza at a reasonable price. read more

For convenience I called to order a pizza for pick up. The call was friendly, the person walked me through their pizza choices and even told me the most popular choices! Not to be confused with the far-inferior Noble Roman's Pizza, Roman's in Canal is a great little spot. Roman's offers some tasty pizza. The thick crust is soft on the inside and the outside is just crispy enough -- another of those rare departures from Columbus-style pizza. The subs are nice too. Fresh baked bread and lots of fillings make them a lunchtime staple around Canal. The menu features lots of sides too. Some are predictable -- cheese sticks, garlic bread and the like. A few of the items are more unexpected. The fried macaroni and cheese is a must-try -- and probably worth the drive to the southeast side. The decor leaves a bit to be desired. There is only one narrow row of booths. You feel like you are sitting in the kitchen, though sometimes that built-in accountability is nice The help is friendly enough, if not always attentive. How this place has stayed in business for thirty years is beyond me. The pizza tastes like the crust was pre-formed. It was crunchy, almost burnt and looked like it had been bought at Aldi's. The cheese wasn't melted and the pepperoni were hard as rocks. I also asked for ranch dressing and they wanted to charge me for a little cup of ranch! That's not the worst of it. Someone called and got a pizza to go and asked for an empty pizza box along with it. In the background, someone screams: "charge her $2.00 for a fucking box." That was incident one. Incident two involved a child coming in from the street and looking for a bathroom. The girl in the kitchen comes out screaming at him that they don't have public restrooms. In comes his dad moments later and asks what the problem is. The girl rudely tells him no public bathroom, and the dude even offered to buy something. She was still rude to him and stated no public bathroom. No one bothered to follow up once the food was served and throughout dinner, nothing but screaming and customer bashing was going on. Was worried when we tried this based on the previous unfriendly reviews of this place but what can I say, I did not experience the same. When i called or order, it was a Thurs afternoon just after 4pm. The person advised me her driver would not be in until 5, but was friendly, I told her that was fine and she proceeded to take my order. The pizza arrived and the driver was friendly, apologized that they could not get it here before 5 and which was no big deal. The pizza was cut in traditional triangles and had plenty of toppings and flavor. Id give it more of a 3.5 out of 5 but rounding up to a 4. One nice thing is there was not much grease which tells me they used quality meats. read more

Roman's Italian sub is the greatest sub in the world. I am not exaggerating. Any time someone thinks they have found better I take them to Roman's and they agree. It is the World's Best. I have been eating Roman's since I was a weeeee child and never knew just how amazing it was until I started traveling and living other places. I have found nothing to compare to the Italian Sub glory... The Pizza is really great too... but I am rarely willing to give up the sub to order the pizza! I will suggest take-out as the dining room leaves little to be desired, but they do have one if necessity calls... I love you Roman's!!! read more

Came to Canal Winchester this past week...had your Pizza delivered to our motel. Being the product of an Italian grandmother, you know I am a really picky person when it comes to the flavor of sauce and Pizza, and anything Italian. With my first bite of your pizza the only thing I could say was WOW.....who knew you could get pizza this great in some small town in OHIO ??????? All I can say is "it was the best pizza I ever ate"...not kidding...the best...the sauce, the crust and the right amount of toppings...my only regret is I live in Pittsburgh and I am sure you don't deliver that far ....but when I come thru Columbus again...you will be my first choice...want to get back to taste your subs....I'm sure they are just as good...keep up the great Pizza making. Horrendous service. I wanted to try their gluten-free pizza crust. I called and was asked to hold. The person just put the receiver down on the counter. I held for 5 minutes without any acknowledgement and finally hung up. I decided I would try to go in and order. I walked in right ahead of the delivery person. She didn't say thank you when I held the door. I stood right in front of the counter for another 5 minutes while 3 people worked in the kitchen. Again, no acknowledgement. No hello. I came in on Labor Day during lunch and ordered a couple of slices, which was advertised on the sign outside. I wanted 2 slices of Pepperoni. They only had 1 pepperoni slice left. Already a little disappointed, I ordered that and a slice of cheese. Well, to say that this pizza is underwhelming would be an understatement. First of all, I was shocked at how small the slices were. For $3 I guess I expected them to be bigger. They were dollar size slices. Then on my first bite I fully thought I was chomping into frozen pizza - and not even good frozen pizza at that. Perhaps the pizza had been sitting around for awhile and that is why it had a poor taste. But if it's Labor Day and there is a lot of foot traffic outside, and you decide to advertise pizza slices on a sign outside, you would think that they would make an effort to keep the pizza slices fresh. And if that did happen to be fresh pizza and that's what it tastes like then I'm not sure how they are still in business. Maybe their subs are better. Also they could have loaded some more pepperoni on the pizza. It was meager. The service wasn't overly friendly. But she was pleasant enough I suppose. read more

Love this place, grown up in lithopolis and came here for the pizza subs. This is not a take your kids and expect the staff to entertain them sorta place. This is the type of place you get your pizza and go home, which isn't to far to walk. For those that say it's outdated, you must be transplants to the area because it's the same place it been 20 yrs ago. If you want flashy marketing and kid friendly go to dominos or chuck-e-cheeses. Found this place when working nearby, (they came up on my Garmin). I've never had their pizza, but their Italian sub is the best oven-baked sub I've ever had. IT always has to start with the bread. You'd swear that they make it themselves, but I've heard that's not the case. None the less, it is nice and crispy on the outside, and super soft on the inside. Also, they have some type of diced tomato salsa-type mixture with cilantro on it that really gives it a unique flavor, unlike any other sub shop around. read more

Moved to canal about 8 yrs ago and I have been eating here at least once a month. The pizza is really tasty but u may want to order it with extra cheese. The bread they use with their subs couldn't taste any fresher. Nice and crispy too! Try the Roman burger. It's really good. Been eating at Romans for over 20 yrs. I used to brag about the subs being 16' and stuffed with chicken/steak/etc. Now days, seems like the subs are not stuffed at all. Less of a sub that now costs more. I doubt I will ever order from here again. Too many corners being cut to cover the renovations. read more

The last 3 times I've eaten at this dump they have screwed my order up and burnt my food. I called to get delivery like the last two times and this time they said they don't deliver to my house. I called back to cancel and the human that answered the phone, not only had the personality of a pet rock, gave me attitude and then proceed to hang up on me. This is one of my favorite local pizza and sub shops. It's a bit of a hole in the wall in "downtown" Canal WInchester, so it's a good place to get delivery or take-out. Not so much a place to take a date to impress. The pizza is fabulous - crust is just a little crunchy, and a little chewy. The sauce is rich and sweet. They seem to use fresh veggies. I'm giving this place a 1 for horrible service! The staff was so rude. I used to order pizza from here all the time but never again! They have no customer appreciation at all. I used to like this place even though I thought it was overpriced and slow it was convenient and the food tasted good. However, the last time I went in I had my two year old with me. I was asked upon coming in what I was going to order and I said that my child needed to use the restroom. She proceeded to tell me they didn't have a public restroom. I said I know you have a one I have eaten here before many times. She then proceeded to tell me it was for paying customers only. Little did she know I had planed on purchasing cookies and drinks upon leaving. I just didn't want to take them in the restroom with me! Also, I planed to bring my friend with me later in the afternoon for lunch. I told her I ate there all the time but never would again and I left. I haven't been back since and don't plan to return. They must be pretty bad off to not let people use there restrooms. Especially for children! They lost some valuable customers! read more

I am disappointed that I have to write this review, but it has to be done. The first time we ordered from here, the pizza was amazing. Today, after waiting 1 1/2 for our order (we are understanding of that, it is Friday), half of it arrived cold and the other half was blatantly reheated - possibly twice. My husband called and pleasantly explained that the pizza was unacceptable (he really was pleasant - far nicer than I would have been). The OWNER claimed that she made the pizzas herself and that nothing was wrong with them. I beg to differ. The crust was rock hard on the bottom and slimy on the top. The toppings were all dried out and visibly burnt. The cheese was so old it was a nasty orange-yellow and hard like plastic. When my husband asked if they guaranteed the quality of their food, she said "no". What?!? She also said that there are times that she would remake a pizza, but this time was not one of them. She would not refund our money or make fresh food. I don't know why I am surprised by the blatant attitude problem - the other reviews say it all. It is a shame that their customer service is so terrible because I did see how great their food can be. Unfortunately, their refusal to remake two little pizzas has lost our business.
