One day my now husband and I looked at each other and said, " screw it, let's just get married in a few months instead of a few years." Flowers just sounded intimidating from the beginning. I had no idea where to go and no idea how much they would cost. My aunt and uncle use this place and scheduled for us to meet with Deb. There were stressful moments but the staff was great and Deb is brilliant. Showed her a couple photos and she came up with even better. I was blessed to have a family member pay so I cannot comment on price but I will say all of my flowers were absolutely breathtaking and I couldn't be more thankful! read more

I had been a customer of this store for about 3 years. The last 3 times I was in this store I experienced horrible customer service as well. I normally go to purchase specific items and make the trip here for that reason. The last and final incident was about 3 months ago. When my credit card was "declined" I requested the error code that the cashier received and immediately she couldn't produce it. While she was "looking" for such code, I contacted my financial institution. I was told that an attempt was never made by Romance Etc. for a point of sale purchase. When I requested more information from their cashier, she became flustered me actually stated "What is your problem, you act like I did something to your card!" I spoke in a very professional manner to her, but was received as being some sort of criminal. My financial institution became upset with their cashier and even indicated to me that there may be malice because this cashiers actions. I will never patronize this store again. They have succeeded in indicating that persons of color are not welcome in their establishment and based on my experience and the reviews of others I will oblige them. read more

Great gifts for every occasion! They've got super cute jewelry pieces and an awesome selection of Voluspa candles/home fragrances. The new location is beautiful and somehow even better than the old one on 2nd St. I also love to pick out flowers for myself every now and then, and they always have unique blooms to choose from. Cute store, horrible customer service. I have been in a few times to purchase Voluspa candles, but I will not be back. Most of the staff that works here are very rude. I always feel like my every move is being watched...like they think I'm going to steal something. It makes for a VERY uncomfortable shopping experience. I have never been greeted, or assisted during my visits. Just followed and watched, until I make my purchases. Even at the point where they realize that I am a paying customer, and not a thief, they still offer no friendly service. Very sad, because this store has some amazing potential. I have been going to this store for years and recently begrudgingly decided that I will no longer give them my business. I came in a few months ago and was smelling one of the Voluspa luxury candles. I asked a worker, whom I believe is the owner, if she could put the top back on the candle because I was afraid of damaging the tin case. She aggressively grabbed it from me, slapped the top back on, and walked away. I went in a few days ago to buy another candle for a friend's graduation and when I asked if she had a ribbon I could put on the bag she rudely handed me the ribbon and said "you should just do it because I have no idea what you would do." I understand that they have a line of gift wrapping that they sell, but when you are paying high prices at a boutique a little extra service is generally included. I certainly didn't expect the special wrapping, but putting in a little extra care to make a gift look presentable isn't asking too much. I worked for years in a high-end floral studio and whenever a customer bought an expensive candle or any knick-knack from the store I gladly made the gift look presentable, even if they didn't want to splurge for the extra wrapping. Part of the reason I find this so upsetting is the fact that my family has continually given this store business for years, from frequently buying upscale candles to investing in their jewelry. I will miss looking through this shop but feel that being rude on more than one occasion isn't a model of customer service that I am willing to finance. read more

I have always loved shopping at this store but today while I was taking a picture of a rosary I REALLY liked to share on Facebook & twitter to get all my friends & family's opinion I was told rudely by who appeared to be the owner "no pictures allowed". Which she had very obviously & purposely stood in the middle of my picture seconds before telling me. I will never be shopping here again, great things, horrible customer service. Not only could had she politely explained to me why pictures weren't allowed, they could have gotten a lot more business had they let me take a picture, given them a great recommendation while I had posted the picture for all the possible potential customers in the future to see. Fantastic selection of delicate/intricate jewelry here, from the gunmetal-look of thin stacked rings to the multi-faceted jewels that glisten from necklaces and bracelets. It's a bit pricey, yes, but the quality is really good. I guess the store is named "Romance etc" because there's a small but pleasant selection of flowers in a fridgerated room to the back, a fridge near the front displaying Godiva chocolates, and lots of knick knacks for the home (lavender-scented lotions, coral room decorations, etc) . The staff was super friendly, the Godiva truffles were so cute and yummy, the jewelry was pretty, the bath soaps smelled like heaven and they even had a few things for guys. Deb was the florist for my wedding last month. The quality of her work was exceptional. She was very flexible around my budget, even suggesting that I rent and return some of the centerpieces to help meet my budget. The day of the wedding, the flowers and succulents that she provided were beautiful! Highly recommended. I'm removing one star for slight disorganization. They charged my card for the deposit 3 times - and while they did refund the money, it was a little jarring for that to be our first transaction. In addition, there was some confusion about the number of centerpieces I wanted, even though I had both called and emailed to confirm - Deb ended up calling me and asking me again. At the end of the day, I'm glad she called and was concerned about getting it right, but I also hate to repeat myself when I've been very clear. Also, they accept only cash or cashier's check for the final payment, which is very inconvenient for customers who live far away (me!). Don't we live in a world where credit cards are acceptable? read more

I used to love this store. I've bought many things from there, including my husband's wedding ring. Which after 6 or 8 months started to peel. Yes, peel. They refused to do much and basically said it was wear and tear. Yes it was 6 months and it wasn't crazy expensive but to have a metal ring peel is nuts. I've had plastic jewelry out of a gumball machine last longer. Then a large glass terarrium I bought there shattered. From just touching it! We used Romance Etc as or florist at the recommendation of our wedding planner, Linda duPlaine Gray, and it was an excellent choice. Deborah was very accommodating and worked within our budget to provide beautiful flower arrangements, bouquet, and other wedding essentials, along with gorgeous rented vases. We had several last minute change requests for which Deborah was happy to do. Romance Etc also sells other items including a framed quotation that we used to have our guests write messages. I had a great experience in this store. The sales associates are not pushy and do not annoyingly follow you around while you're shopping. I asked for assistance in looking for a locket as a gift for my mom and Kim helped me out immediately. They had a good-sized selection of lockets at a wide price range. I had been shopping for the perfect locket for a few months now-it was a thank you for being there with the birth of my son, Jacob. I ended up finding the perfect smaller locket with an owl on it (yes, random) that I knew my mom would love. Weird, but my mom's name is Kim (as was the sales associates name) and my son's name is Jacob (as was the sales associates son's name). They both have a weird obsession with owls too...it was a truly unique experience! Tips: 1. Don't come here with a big group, massive stroller, or kids that cannot keep their hands to themselves as there are a lot of breakables and smaller isles. 2. Do come here with your girlfriends after lunch or dinner on 2nd street. 3. This is a great place to get meaningful, romantic, unique gifts for that someone special in your life. 4. Deb knocked it out of the park! She was my florist for my wedding in August and I absolutely loved all the pieces she put together. She loves vintage pieces and so do I, it wasn't hard from that point on to say, I hired her. She worked within my budget and provided alternatives to what would work best. I didn't know what kind of flowers I wanted or how to articulate the right words to describe the theme of our wedding. I gave her two words "shabby chic" and from there she did her magic. I did provide her with some photos of what I liked so she used it as reference. But, she totally put all those Pinterest photos to shame on my wedding day. The wedding arch that she created was my ultimate favorite piece. My first time looking at it was when I walked down the aisle, and I was speechless. A friend and I walked into the store a couple days ago and were automatically greeted by one of the associates and asked if we needed any assistance. We later proceeded to pick out some flowers for a bouquet and as soon as we brought them to the front desk, she took them to the back to create an arrangement for us. It took about 5-7 minutes, but the finished product was definitely worth it for such a short time period. I stumbled upon this place while walking down 2nd street. A Long Beach Native for 27 years and now a NorCal girl, I never really ventured into this store. I probably walked in and out but this time I took my time. Everything in this store is one of a kind and unique. You never know what you will find. It definitely has a vibe of hand selected items to fit the theme of the store! I didn't know there was an upstairs for clothing. It was there where I found my romance with coats, a black and white, vertical striped coat. I just had to have it. I recently moved up north and just chit chatting with the ladies who I think own the store, they knew the area where I lived. These ladies were sweet and wholesome and I'll definitely come back again. Maybe this time I'll look into their floral services for an upcoming wedding! read more

When I buy presents that are unique for bdays or weddings I come here. Your gifts and cards will be unique. I gave a couple of our friends a box set of wine thingy (I.e. You know the kind that had wine opener, jewelry for your glasses, thermometer, spout thingy), it may have not been in their registry but it's one is those they use a lot if they are wine drinkers and something they love. Like most places on 2nd street the selection is funky and cool and unique and "artsy fartsy". Which also makes them VERY pricey to shop. A rusty nail you find on the street is free...a rusty nail in one of these boutiques is "art" and is therefore $20. They don't have rusty nails for sale, but, hopefully you get the idea. A polished rock that you buy from a rock shop = $1. A polished rock you find here is $5. Loved everything...bought nothing. read more

I had my wedding flowers done by this shop on 10/18/08. This store has fresh flowers in the front and a refrigerated flower section inside, but you would never imagine the artist that is Deborah (the owner and florist). My center pieces were amazing. They were so beautiful everyone was talking about them all night. My wedding bouquet was exactly what i wanted as were the bouquets for my brides maids. She has gorgeous stands for the center pieces and hurricanes with sea glass and long burning candles and any other fabulous decoration you can think of. My husband and i are so pleased with the job she did. I also appreciated that she was willing to work with my budget and had creative and beautiful ideas that help keep costs down. Another perk is the sister store right next door- Maison Femme. I found the most beautiful lingerie for my wedding night. There is a darling little bridal part of the store in the back- has great stuff for brides and bridal party. I love love love this store, the owner, and the flower services offered. They really do sell everything you need for romance here. Well, let me qualify that remark -- everything a *woman* would need. According to my nearest and dearest, any man that needs flowers, scented candles, foaming bath salts, nipple-shaped chocolates, jewelry, or special pyjamas to feel romantic, probably doesn't like women anyway. I'm paraphrasing, you understand ;). Romance Etc would also be a great place to shop for gifts for your girlfriends, sister, mom, or yourself. There are a lot of cute little things calculated to appeal to girly girls, like the designer showercap collection and "poo-pouri" (I won't spoil your surprise for when you find out what that's for). Humorous cards for all occasions, fun house decor items, etc. make this place inspiring for a number of things besides romance.There's even a more manly section with a travel theme and watches. Pretty much, this store has something for everybody, albeit on the high end of the price scale. But that's Second Street for ya. I almost awarded RE a five star rating but for the disappointing chocolate and the attitude of the lady who sold it to me. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but she seemed a bit irritated -- perhaps because I wanted just one chocolate to taste, and I obviously wasn't a big spender looking for somebody to do flowers for an event or buying their pricey jewelry. All I walked away with was a mild chocolate flavor lingering on the tongue and ten dollar's worth of shower salt domes. They're these things you put on your shower floor...never mind; they're girly. Hint: Vegan, schmegan. Those "jewel" chocolates look a LOT better than they taste -- do not waste your money. read more

They put together a bouquet of flowers for me at the last minute because I'm a poor planner and undeserving of love. They were very helpful and awesome about this last-minute poorly-planned request and I truly appreciate it. Aside from that, the bouquet of flowers itself was beautiful, with freshly-cut flowers, and it made me look like I planned ahead like the thoughtful person that I really should have been. She brought my vision to life and made our venue (Long Beach Ebell Club) look fantastically romantic (if that was even more possible). The mixture of her blooms and the billions of candles we had was phenomenal! Deb was there setting up right when she said she would be and the flowers on the top of my cake, bouquets, bouts, centerpieces, right down to the petals for the flower girl all looked lovely. My friends and I visited this store today and we were blatantly followed by employees the whole entire time. We weren't offered assistance or greeted even though multiple employees were hovering right next to us everywhere we went. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable as we were clearly singled out because of the color of our skin. She was very helpful throughout the consultation. She took my few Pinterest favorites and topped them! The center pieces (white pumpkins!) and garland on the bridge looked amazing. Two stars for the eclectic mix of goods and decor in the store. However, what's the deal with the manager?? Or is she the owner? Middle-aged, dirty blonde woman. She IGNORES you when's she's behind the counter. Literally, won't respond to any hello or I'm ready to be rung up cues. ( As in I'm standing here, money and merch in hand looking at you and saying HELLO!) I know the employees are aware of this behavior of hers because when I asked what's up with that lady?? They responded, " yea, she does that because it's my (employee's) job to help guests at the counter. UHM... Okay, how about a " someone will be right with you," at least? Bizarre and unprofessional. Get a clue lady and learn some basic manners when it comes to customer service. Never again! read more

i walked in and was immediately overwhelmed and charmed by the well-chosen selection of merchandise. the displays are so intricate and they have so much that i was planning to explore the store for a while, gaze at all the unique gifts, and plan out what to get who for christmas. the charm quickly wore off, though as my partner and i were both followed through the store, tag teamed by employees, and asked literally ten times in 15 minutes if they could help us with anything. we both appreciate helpful and available customer service, but seriously, this was a directed and planned assault. the last few times we were asked (separately and together), i felt like calling them on it--really, what was it? that my partner and i are queer and unwelcome in their store? did we look too poor to buy anything from them? (hell, we were even bathed and dressed nicely!) is it that i look "ethnic"? did we seem like we going to steal something? rather than yell, "back the fuck off, bitch" at the woman who looked like she could have been the owner, we looked at each other, shook our heads, and left abruptly. too bad they chased us away--i was looking to spend some money in that place. i won't go back now. read more

Great local customer service. Have been meaning to write about my experience here as it is over the top. I was buying my latest great set of earrings here that had pearls, silver strands that looked like coral all dangling from a great hoop & some of their body butter which really does make my skin sing from all these warm windy days. When I was trying on their jewelry here, I took off my ring to try on a couple of shiny new ones. Well, I got distracted and accidentally left my diamond ring that my father had given to me on their counter! Its not much of a diamond as its more like a chip, but it has a ton of meaning for me as my parents got me that ring when they renewed their 25th anniversary wedding vows. I know, yes - its cheesy but I love it. Anyhoo, I didn't realize that precious ring wasn't on my finger until I was done w/ my dinner salad down the street at a restaurant with friends. I FREAKED! Well, I ran back down 2nd Street, and the store clerk said, "We were thinking you'd be back soon!" and handed me back my precious ring! Can you believe it? I wouldn't even be able to explain to my father how I carelessly lost that ring. Well I sent a thank you card to the owner praising the store clerk that had helped me, and they sent me a thank you email back for the thank you card. Awww, the cycle of niceness just does not stop! Come here for the great finds of martini glasses, fun jewelry, great candles, heavenly body butters.... but even more so that this is such a great 2nd Street / Long Beach business! They also deliver beautiful flower arrangements. My company always uses them to send the congratulatory bouquets to clients/employees and they are over the top fabulous. read more
