A secret tapas place in Islington in an almost unexpected location. This is not Upper St and it's probably better for that in this case. Located in a converted terraced house, it's almost like an elongated living room, small but cosy.
Casual describes it and that's a good thing. There are too many oh so precious tapas bars in London with prices to match. I thought tapas is supposed to be an informal, casual thing, right? Here it was on all fronts, the food, the ambience, the service - just straightforward and good.
The menu is classic tapas and raciones with some grilled steaks too.
Tortilla of the day was good and hot from the pan. Crispy and straightforward calamares with alioli was appreciated. Escalivada - a salad of aubergine, peppers and onion with olive oil was good and comforting. We also sampled scallops with tomatoes on the specials menu. Also full of flavour but a bit overcooked. A big portion of patatas bravas and some highly flavoured merguez sausage with hummus was plenty to eat.
Decent wine list and some bottled beers are available.
This is tapas like I've had in Spain, no fusion concepts here. Prices are good, generous portions, nicely done. read more
