Many programs for children which is nice. Free tech time appointments so you can work with a librarian to answer questions. During the winter they tend fires in their reading rooms. The Exeter Public Library has a summer reading program, and the children read for about 20 minutes each day. You are suppose to come in every week to cash in a prize, but we could not due to other things. So, we came the other day, and they said they can only give one prize a week because that's there polocy. Well, I said why can't my child just get a second prize, there like 10 cents. They said that it's just there polocy. And my kid was not happy. We talked to a different person, and they said the same thing. Then, we talked to a third person, and after a particle argument, we got.

The leadership makes extra efforts to welcome the community. The ripple effect of great leadership is evident with the entire staff. Today a wonderful librarian Sat offered me organic gummies and my favorite compact shopping bag. I wished I had took better note of her name. To read on the outsude covered deck looking for herons and listening to the river is heaven for me. Thank you all for being one of my favorite respite places.

Stones clocks and…read moreowls The Ogunquit Library is a relatively small building that was dedicated and built in 1897. As with most libraries of the time it was constructed with private money. I love old libraries and love old libraries made out of old stones the best. This entire building is made out of local field stones. Incredibly stunning to look at. I spent some time just walking around the lovely building admiring the work and textures of the library. Of course having lovely gardens outside the library doesn't exactly hurt the experience. But the library is more than just a lovely building made from cool stones and surround by beautiful flowers. Although that would probably be enough for me to give it five stars. However to make things even better the inside of the library is lovely too. All kinds of cool things are inside; great old pictures, stuffed owls, huge grandfather clocks, lovely ceilings, rocking chairs and even a small model of the library. It even has books, periodicals and computers but you can find those at any library. This library is definitely something special, both on the inside and out. Maine has a whole lot of very cool libraries but this one is really, really one of the most stunning.

I've been coming to this library ever since I was in elementary school. It has always been…read moresufficient for the small town of Wells. They are always staying updated and often getting new books. The place became much nicer and felt less crammed with the renovations and addition in 2018. The dedicated children's section is often having activities such as an after-school Lego and Rubik's Cube club on Fridays. The new quiet study room in the addition also expands the adult section and makes the space feel more open. There is something for everyone at this library!

We met a man who was working (or was he just hanging out? not sure) there and was nice enough to give us a special tour of the place! He was so knowledgeable about the history of Portsmouth and was so passionate about the town. I saw some really neat artifacts here, including whale vertebrae...which totally made me squeal in excitement. Just take a visit to the Portsmouth Athenaeum and strike up a conversation. You never know what you will discover!

We went to the North End History exhibit and it was super-informative and very interesting. Lots of neat old photos and details about parts of Portsmouth we drive by on a regular basis without realizing their historical significance. Ask for James, ask a few questions, and sit back and laugh as he takes the history of the area and wraps it up in funny and memorable stories and anecdotes. Just a note - finish your food and coffee before visiting. There are some incredibly old books in this place and you don't want to spill!

It was the first concert of the 29th Annual Capriccio Music Festival presented by Ogunquit Performing Arts. We had seen Paul Sullivan in concert in Damariscotta, Maine 25 or 30 years ago and enjoyed the concert so much we bought all 5 CDs he had out at the time. When I learned from his email a few months ago that he would be performing tonight Alan and I discussed rearranging our itinerary slightly so we could see him. The center was built in1974 w/ $250,000 given by philanthropist Sanford Judson Dunaway. It looks as if it houses civic offices as well as the performances space. Architecturally it looks mid-century New England. Parking lots are on the side and in the back. A walkway leads from the back parking lot to the front entrance of the community center. There are basketball courts next door which were closed from 6 PM to 11 PM tonight, probably because of the concert. The auditorium is large, w/ a stage in front. Comfortably padded blue chairs had been set up in rows w/ aisles separating the center section from two side sections. There are a couple of bathrooms on the main level, one all gender, the other marked 'staff only' which means people unfamiliar w/ the facility wouldn't know they could use it--or even that it was a bathroom--unless they were told. It would be good if temporary signs were posted at future events alerting people to this. The concert piano was a 122 year old Steinway which had been rescued and restored by Betty Dunaway Burnham, a local pianist and Judson Dunaway's daughter, who was chair of the board of Ogunquit Performing Arts and two master piano tuners she engaged, Frank Hanson and Vincent D'Errico. The piano tuners bought the abused piano from a piano dealer and restored it to life. Once their work was done they sold the piano to OPA at cost, donating their labor to restore it, w/ the agreement that they would maintain it, again donating their labor. The only caveats were that the piano could be used only for OPA performances and that they would maintain it. The piano is a 7'9" Concert Model C w/ an ebony finish. It looks and sounds magnificent and OPA is justifiably proud of it.

Perkins Cove is one of the very few places to park in Ogunquit, ME. Pay at the kiosk near the…read moreentrance to the parking lot. There are a few shops in this area where you can purchase souvenirs, ice cream and other things. The bridge is near these shops. If you are new to the Maine coastline, Ogunquit offers some nice views of the rocky seaside and open ocean. You climb up on the bridge to view the cove, filled with boats on our visit, on one side and a waterway to the ocean on the other. The area as a whole is very 'seaside, tourist destination'. It's known for it's photo opportunity. For myself, it was just OK. However, I have lived seaside for decades and have had many opportunities, in many states, to enjoy the views. So take that opinion with a grain of salt. We came to Perkins Cove to park and walk the Marginal Way, so it was a quick stop to explore the area a bit before we headed off on our walk. You will definitely get that 'cute sea side village' impression here and if you walk the Marginal Way, you will end in the village of Ogunquit at the other end.

Definitely worth it to walk on the bridge and see the views from either direction. IT's a special treat to see the drawbridge in action when a boat needs to go through. This area is very walkable with cute shops, a few restaurants, a lobster roll shop, and an ice cream show. It's also a working harbor with docks and reserved parking areas for fishermen. We always make a point of visiting Perkins Cove whenever we come to Ogunquit.
