Extremely rude. There's a way to do your job and not be an asshole. Always respected law enforcement but Dover PD gives them a bad rep.

For my 800th review, I'd like to review the Portsmouth police department. They have a tough job,…read morethey have to do it with inadequate resources (just my opinion as a taxpayer), and they manage to do it with a sense of humor. A recent entry in the police log was "Responded to a Xxxxx Drive bus stop for a complaint about people drinking beer and found they were drinking coffee." Another one was "Responded to Xxxxx Drive where a woman said her child's father's new girlfriend was threatening to post naked pictures of the caller on the Internet." Really, the logs are amazing. I've seen these people deal with countless situations and they're impressive to watch. The chief is working on his PhD and regularly meets with people in various neighborhoods to see if they have any concerns. I'm pretty sure that everyone on the force is better educated than I am. Every person that I've seen is incredibly patient and caring, even with people that are just begging to be used for Taser practice (I'd obviously never make it as a cop). Really, you should see how nice they are with people that get caught at drunk driving checkpoints and are trying to talk their way out of it, slurring all the way. There was a checkpoint set up just outside my house one night and it was amazing to listen to. During this year's Halloween Parade, they managed to get fire trucks to an alarm in the heart of downtown without affecting the thousands of people who showed up and filled the street for one of the city's most incredible events. Sure, I don't agree with every law that they're required to enforce, and I think both sides could do a better job with contract negotiations, but I'm not getting caught up in the details. These men, women, and even their dogs make me glad that I live in Portsmouth.

An officer, Kevin Marrie, years ago had shown up on my porch for a trespassing matter that had…read morealready been resolved. It had been someone's dog at large on my property. Long story short, when I had told him not to interact with the Yorkie puppy next to me, he got offended and mused that he needed to be sure he didn't need to shoot the dog. He then rested his hand on his gun holder. I asked whether he was kidding, he insisted he was not and refused to leave my property. This last Wednesday, we heard a pounding in our door somewhere between 6:00 and 6:40. I was already in my pajamas watching a movie as it was a rare day off. My husband was also upstairs but on the computer. We went to the upstairs window and saw a vehicle in our driveway. My husband went to the door, and I told him to wait while I put my dogs away. The person, Officer Marrie saw this and pounded more aggressively on our door. We of course did not realize at this point who it was. We both went out to the porch to fund out what was up. The officer said that a Doberman was loose (red bt the way not black like ours and not on our road). When we asked why he was at our door, he snidely said well I know you have Dobermans. So this officer, who I last saw musing on my porch about shooting a dog sitting at my side decided it was a great idea to stop by and pound aggressively at my door while also implying he knows things abover me. Also, I have been very vocal about this incident without naming him in the past. So it is very suspicious that he finds an excuse to make contact with us. We, obviously since this was not our dog, did not call for help in finding our dog. The call to his supervisor met me with him trying to talk over me, and this supervisor who I don't know telling me how safe he feels with Officer Kevin Marrie. Apparently I should get over an officer being irresponsible and threatening that maybe he should shoot a dog sitting quietly next to me, and feel totally safe to find him again on my front porch pounding on the door. That is what a responsible officer who feels bad about his prior behavior, and even after having admitted it did happen and being sent out to retrain would never do. It shows the same lack of restraint, poor decision making skills, and irresponsible behavior regarding a firearm. As a citizen, I can not try and protect myself when found alone in a threatening situation with an officer. I do not like nor have fire arms at my disposal. If I tried to protect the dog in my care, something would probably happen to me or the dog. Now I also don't have any control of this officer showing up. I don't feel safe nor has the supervisor's of the police officers in York Maine made me feel safe or comfortable or valued as a citizen. Not to mention, an officer and an officer's spouse, let my husband know they talk about it openly inside and outside the police department in a protective way for the officer involved. That is so unprofessional to do that it boggles my mind. A citizen which did nothing wrong to invite this upon themselves.

In a real city, police officers don't write parking tickets-meter maids do. However, in a po-dunk…read moretown like York, Maine, the police officers have nothing better to do, so they write parking tickets. I got a parking ticket for parking at a corner, where was no sign indicating that I could not park there. I even arrived as the officer was writing the ticket and tried to explain myself, and he still gave it to me. It must have been quite a power trip for the tough young police officer to give me that ticket. Incase you couldn't tell, my appeal was denied. I personally know police officers who agree that this officer acted without any class. I won't let one bad apple ruin it for the rest of them, because I know there are many excellent police officers out there. Just beware when you are in York, the police must not have much else to do, so be careful where you park.
