To be honest, I've only eaten their pho (It's my favorite in town) but their menu has all sorts of Asian delights from Thai/Chinese/Laotin to Vietnamese. Stop in on Monday for cheap bowls of Pho. With beautifully herbal and beefy broth, a piping hot bowl of P1 is full of delicious chunks of intestine and tendon for those adventurous eaters. A great assortment of condiments to spice it up, if you are brave, and always lots of fresh basil and cilantro to enhance the flavor. Because of it's location It's plenty busy during the lunch hour and offers great specials for those not interested in pho. The dining areas are always clean and service is solid. read more

For quick, delicious Asian takeout, Rolling Wok is a great choice. I will admit, I've driven by so many times as its in a strange little strip mall on Grand. I'm so happy we finally stopped! The potstickers were flavorful and crisp, the egg rolls were tasty and my empress chicken was still juicy and flavorful. My boyfriend LOVES their fried rice (and considering that's all he orders at Chinese restaurants, that says a lot!!!) Parking is goofy, on street, and servings could have been a little bigger, but such a great place. read more

For some reason, I actually thought Rolling Wok was located somewhere within the Downtown Sky Walks, but its just east of East 15th & Grand. Being my usual self, not minding dining solo and loving to people watch, it seemed that everyone was enjoying their dishes. From the reviews, I was expecting more from their "Bubble Teas"...in terms of more variety outside of fruit selections ( my favorite is Almond Milk Tea...but I have to remind myself, that I'm in Iowa and that "bubble tea" really just means a smoothie with boba)... Going on, I ordered the Pad See Ew with beef, and it was actually really good! I tried stopping by after work, but found out that they have a prep-gap between 2-4pm where they close before dinner, but I would definitely go here again. read more

The food here is excellent, and the service is great. Where else can you get Chinese, Thai, Laotian, AND Vietnamese all in the same restaurant?? The egg rolls were the best I can ever remember having, and the crab rangoon were also very good. The shrimp in a blanket are yummy too. As for entrees, I have had the Pad Thai with chicken, as well as the Drunken Noodles, and both are delicious! read more

When we're first drive by it kind of looked like this place was closed... but once you go around the back side where some parking is, you can see the "open" sign. We got the sound 6pm though I can't recall the day.. and we were the only ones in the place! Overall it's kind of small but not too bad and seemed clean. I really like that they have some unusual appetizers like jerky and spicy gizzards. We went with the spicy gizzards and sent disappointed although I'm really looking forward to trying the jerky next time! Husband got a thai tea and I got an iced green tea! I haven't seen that on a menu before and really liked it! Unfortunately they were out of boba. We're ordered a curry dish and drunken noodles - both are yummy and pretty typical of what you'd expect although I ordered a 2/5 spicy and felt it had no heat at all. Our waiter was friendly and very laid back. I would come here again. read more

Just plain disgusting! I almost threw it back up pad thai and fried rice wasted like 30.00 and the fried gizzards tasted like lil burnt chips of chicken because they slice them up and you cnt chew them! Nasty af never again! I dnt get all the hype about it!! Sadly I have to continue my quest for good fried rice in DesMoines read more

In Des Moines this is the place that I return to time and again for Drunken Noodles, Pad Thai and the Pot Stickers. I love the atmosphere, this place is great for casual conversation and is really a spot I love to have lunch. I come here nearly every week and no matter what I get consistently good food and superb service. read more

One of the best of the Des Moines Asian restaurants that offers a variety of Lao, Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese cuisine. This is not a fancy place. Rolling Wok offers simple comfort foods in fresh ingredients of South Asian style and each dish is reasonably priced. read more

I came here with my family for the quest for ladnah and I was not disappointed. This place probably tied for first right now along with king and I for best ladnah. The sauce at King and I is a little better but the noodles are better here at rolling wok. The noodles were given a little stir fried with the right amount of burn smell and taste. I would have to say that gives it a little edge over king and I because rolling wok gives better portion. So on 12/14/12 I crown rolling wok the best ladnah of des moines for now. The mee krop was great. Padsahew was great. The pho was one of the best in Des Moines. I have been to Thailand several times and so far this place that comes closest to real good thai food. read more

I went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The service was great & the food was delicious. I had shrimp in a blanket, meatballs, strawberry bubble tea, & seafood panang. I ate everything and also some of my boyfriend's food too lol. He had beef jerky, sticky rice, & papaya salad. There were no leftovers & we usually have some leftovers. Everything was delicious, from the appetizers, entree & bubble tea! Definitely will be coming back again. read more

Came off the plane at McCarron and was thinking to myself, I could really go for a bowl of Pho. This place hit the spot and then some. It's affordable, comfortable, and delicious. You won't go wrong with this place. My fiancee and I both ordered Pho and we were both impressed. By the end of the meal no noodles or beef was left in the broth. Highly recommend this place! read more

Absolutely loved eating here. The dining room is nothing to brag about, but it was clean. Service was fast, food was HOT, plenty of condiments to choose from on the table. Portions are more than enough for lunch. Lunches included a soup and crab rangoon. Which was awesome. I'm always in for a crab rangoon! Parking was fine, but you could tell they shared with multiple other businesses which I could see causing a potential issue at some point in the day. Would come back again. read more

We came to dinner here based solely on the previous reviews and were not disappointed!! Each of us(4) ordered something different and two are picky eaters and the staff took care of us with no problem. The food came quickly and was very good. Update: I recently stopped for lunch for a to go order. So sad, it's under new ownership I think. Prices have drastically increased, menu changed and dropped some of the items you don't usually get at other similar restaurants. Quality is lower and the broccoli was overcooked. I think they served me food that had been sitting around for a couple of hours. The food was barely edible. Staff were not very friendly. Too bad, used to be my go to place. read more

SO GOOD! This place is fantastic. Our whole family of 6 loves it. The pho is delicious and is my first choice, but also love the beef jerky (must try with sticky rice), the spring rolls, larb, papaya salad, and egg rolls. Our kids love the bubble tea. Service can be slow at times, but is very friendly and the food is worth the wait! read more

This place is a little unknown gem. They have a great selection of Chinese and Thai style food. Located just passed the bustling East Village, Rolling Wok has a small but nice dinning room. My wife and I have always purchased take out so I do not have much to say about service, but the food quality is excellent. They use great veggies and their tofu is always fantastic. I recently tried a basil flavored dish and it was out of this world good. read more

One Saturday afternoon, I was really craving Pad Thai. Instead of my typical togo spot of Thai Flavors, I decided on Rolling Wok. I was unsure if the food would be quality so I ordered Pad Thai (spicy level 3) and Drunken Noodles (spicy level 2 as it already comes with jalapenos). When I picked up the food, the restaurant was clean and large. Very well presentation. Both dishes were excellent. The Pad Thai was excellent and full of flavor. The Drunken Noodles was also excellent. The waiter who took my phone order was nice and courteous. I highly recommend. I will revisit this review once I have an actual dining-in experience. For now, the quality of the food exceeded my expectations and I can highly recommend. A heads up: the parking is horrendous. Also, debit card transactions have an additional fee. read more

First an probably only review ever on Yelp. Traveling across the country we saw this on Yelp and decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise! I just wanted to make it known that this place is the bomb. It is authentic. My wife is Thai and we have both lived overseas in Thailand for many years. This is the closest to authentic that we have had. And good portions too. A real great find! read more

My partner and I stopped in Des Moines on our way to Omaha with hopes of visiting Patton's, but found they were closed. We hopped next door to this amazing place and were so surprised and delighted! Very consistent and quite good food quality. They have an array of Asian cuisines, something to make everyone happy. Service varies between very good and very acceptable. Brightly colored cheery walls on the inside with somewhat worn cheap furniture. This restaurant doesn't need fancy seating. The food makes up for any other shortcomings. read more

I had some really good pad thai here and now I'm pissed off because every time I try to make it at home, it tastes like ass.

CHICKEN WINGS, BEEF JERK, PAPAYA SALAD, and STICKY RICE. NUFF SAID. SO GOOD. Still got some leftovers i'm lookin forward to eating.. = ) Rolling Wok, you will be seeing my face again to try the spicy sausage OOO YEAHHH (kool-aid guy voice) read more

I really enjoy the Lao and Vietnamese food at the Rolling Wok Café. The Pho broth is delicious and they bring a generous assortment of garnishes to spruce it up. The House Eggrolls are generously sized and very tasty. I enjoy the papaya salad combo which is served with sticky rice, cabbage wedge and your choice of chicken wings or meatballs. I tend to like spicy foods, but I only choose a 3 their 1-5 spiciness scale, because it really sneaks up on you in the papaya salad. The first few bites, I always think, hmm, I should have gotten spicier, but by the end, by lips have that wonderful burn. I did find the chicken wings to be a bit bland. They have a dry rub and are cooked a little crispy but I think they could use more zing. The LARP is also very good. It's a spicy pork salad with mint and cilantro. They also have a good bubble-tea business going. The décor could use some work. The carpet has some ugly rips in it. The service is also fairly lax. But if you want to try Lao food, this is very tasty. read more

Always fresh always good service. I wish they had thicker noodles, but I think the best pad Thai in the city is at this restaurant. A lot of Asian restaurants have started developing the secret of pre-cooking meat and then leaving it in the refrigerator until it's time to make the dish. I don't know, but it does not taste like that at this restaurant. It tastes like everything is fresh. Try the sticky rice. It's delicious! read more

I tried this place on a whim with my boyfriend. I wanted pho and my boyfriend wanted Chinese so we agreed on rolling wok because they have both. We were both shocked at how fast the food was, great service and really great food. I would definitely recommend the beef jerky appetizer and the steak pho for sure! read more

This used to be a great place for lunch. The menu items have changed even though the names of the food remain the same. The egg drop soup is like dish water, complete with bits of unidentifiable particles floating in it. The food is unevenly spiced so you get a mouthful of spice, like the black pepper that was on the bottom of the pad thai. The service is unnecessarily slow, having waited 15 minutes to order then another 20 minutes until served. Save yourself a bad lunchtime experience and go elsewhere! read more

I'll begin by telling you that I go to the Rolling Wok for one meal...the laap. It's absolutely delicious. My awesome girlfriend took me to this place as she has been there numerous times with her friends and coworkers. The menu is loaded with different options, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Laotian. As I said, I go there for the Laap which comes with sticky rice. I always go with the Laap beef as it reminds me of a dish my grandmother used to make (salpicon, it's Nicaraguan). They add a lot of lime to it, which I love, and sits on top of a large piece of cabbage, which helps with the spice (I'll explain later), and about 3 slices of cucumbers (which also helps with the spice). OK, for the long awaited explanation on the spice. The first time I was there, the waiter asked how spicy I wanted it and he said it comes from a level 1 (not spicy) to a level 5 (really spicy). So I decided to be safe and went with level 3. I like spicy food, but not to the point that I can't enjoy or taste the food I'm eating. Level 3 was, for me, very spicy. It made the top of my head sweat, but as I compare it to other levels, I was able to continue eating without stopping much, unlike a level 4, which I'll get to in a bit. If you don't like spicy food at all, don't start with level 3. The next couple of times we were there, I also went with level 3 and it was as delicious as before. So the next time I went to Rolling Wok was a little over a year and I decided to be brave and order a level 4. This was a whole new experience for me. The level 4 was just too spicy! I was able to finish the meal, but had to stop numerous times to either drink water, chew on the cabbage and the cucumbers, steal my girlfriend's cabbage and cucumbers, or to try and blow the steam out of my mouth (which didn't work). There were a few occasions where I started a sentence and had to stop talking as my girlfriend looked at me like I was crazy cause it was just too hot to speak. The top of my head was glistening and if it would've been sunny I'm sure I would've blinded the people driving by (I have a full set of hair and am not bald BTW). Halfway through my meal I swore to never eat a level 4 again and that I would demote myself to a level 2. Yes I know level 3 is below level 4, but it hurt so bad, I have to go with level 2 from now on. The next time we visited i went with a level 2, which still made me sweat, but I wasn't on "fire" the next few days (if you know what I mean). I do have to say that the staff is amazing. Everyone is very friendly and it doesn't seem like I'm eating out when I'm there. Very polite and very informative. My girlfriend ordered a level 2 on our last visit and it was burning her up pretty bad. We talked to the waiter and even told him we would pay for that one, but she needed a level 1 instead...they simply took it off our bill. Every time I am in Des Moines, Rolling Wok is a definite stop for 2 or 3 times. I love me some laap!!! read more

Read all the rave reviews on Yelp so decided to stop by for lunch while driving through the area. We ordered chicken larb, grilled pork and egg over rice, chicken lo-mein, beef pad Thai, and green curry with chicken. Overall, food was just ok, even by Midwestern standards. My son liked his beef pad Thai, said flavor was good and beef very tender. As for the rest of us, we would probably rate our dishes 2.5 stars. Service was also kind of brusque by the young man who served us, but he did become nicer once he realized the kitchen forgot to make one of our dishes, and it did not come out until the rest of us were basically done eating. I think if you are in the area and craving Asian food, this place offers a large selection but it's best if you don't come with high expectations, otherwise you may be disappointed. read more
