My family and I stayed for four days on campsite 30 and 32. Both sites were advertised as being…read moreable to accommodate a 30 ft trailer or RV. Upon arriving, we discovered the road within the campsite was narrow and very hard to maneuver the 27 ft trailer we had. We had to back the trailer into space 32 and let me tell you it was very HARD. Not enough clearance for tundra truck to maneuver into the site. We ended up having the trailer on the dirt and pavement, and at an angle to fit. This campground is not recommended for anything over 15 feet in my opinion. Also keep in mind it has zero hook up. We did utilize the dump station at Bonita Falls RV campground which was about a mile before Applewhite. Space 32 and 30 have a small incline of space between them so if you plan on having two spaces sided by side for larger groups, these sites won't work out well. Site 32 has one huge pine tree on it and 30 has no shade. The tent space will be right in the sun. Let me say it gets extremely hot by 7 am. The nights were a bit chilly so bring a sweater and blankets. One water spigot is across from site 30. The bathrooms are across from 32 and there is only ONE working toilet for women and for men for all the lower loop sites. That is not ideal considering the campsite was full. I saw portable toilets just at the entrance of the campground. Our site was along a dirt trail which was directly behind and above our sites. This trail had ATV and dirt bikes, as well as vehicles driving by at all hours of the day and night. Some vehicle driving by with loud music at 3 am. We also could hear traffic in the nearby highway. Not ideal but I guess for a location only a short distance from Fontana, you have to compromise. Definitely not the beauty of Sequoia. We we warned about rattle snakes and did see one on our last day and it came very close to my 2-year old grandson. Very scary. We saw deer along the mountain side, and the adjacent property to the campground had some llamas. There is a perimeter fence along the campground that makes it look like you're not really camping. We drove across the street to the Applewhite picnic area. The creek is ice cold and gets very very crowded on the weekends. We enjoyed Friday because it wasn't too busy. It is free if you are camping. Just show your camp pass. The camp host came by with firewood for sale and quiet time was not enforced. I would not return to this campground.

But all that as prologue to a couple of weeks ago, when I went with my son, another dad, and a slew of Boy Scouts on a two-night backpacking trip into the San Gabriels. I've completed the Sturtevant Falls hike more times than I can count, and I've hiked and re-hiked all sorts of trails in this area. But I can't say that prior to this trip, I had taken the path to Spruce Grove Campground... it just never came up I guess. I'm glad to have experienced this nice little spot just a few miles from the parking lot at Chantry Flats. The campground is little more than a marginally flat area between the trail and the creek. Plenty of shade trees in the riparian spot makes for a tranquil camping place, despite the steady flow of hiking and trail biking traffic just feet from your tent. Each campsite features a fire pit, and there is a rather unique toilet with a conveyor belt "flushing" system. Kudos to the engineers for not only a waterless set-up, but also the clear plexiglass roof offers light and a nicer view of the laurel and sycamore trees. Just a few minutes from Sturtevant Camp, this simple little camp site is first come, first served, and free to use. No bear boxes here, so bring a good bear can/hard-sided bear container. Unless you're really good at it and know what you're doing, don't bother trying to hang a bear bag. Really, you're doing it wrong. Pack out what you pack in, trash wise, too. If you're camping here, it's probably during the "absolutely no fires.... seriously, what were you thinking even bringing a lighter?" season. So there's that, too. Four stars for being a cool, free, close, and relatively pretty campsite in a high traffic area. The consistent parade of people in their REI-inspired plumage was definitely a few steps higher on the food chain than the Eaton Canyon waterfall people, but still distracting.

They were kind enough to check on us when we weren't there at almost 7:30. I explained the situation and they were understanding. I called later to give the night attendant our ETA, she was waiting by at the entrance for us when we pulled in! She showed us to our site and was very descriptive of what we needed to do. She was confident in her trailer parking abilities too, she was willing to give us directions as far as we needed. Though my husband didn't as he drives a trailer all day every day. She said just take care of everything in the morning, made sure we were good and left is to finish setting up. The next morning was quiet and slow paced as we got moving and started making breakfast. We finally made it to the office and the lady there was kind,quick and informative! We went to the pool and hung out for a few then played some mini golf l. They have all kinds of items to change the game up each round/hole. My kids enjoyed getting to use their imagination. The bathrooms are very clean as well as everything else. The maintainer person even went two spots away from us with intent to use the blower, saw us and said he didn't want to stir things up for us. Later that night we were riding scooters and the maintenance man told my daughter "let's race"! She enjoyed that. The hardest part is probably having a 1 year old who just wants to be free but turns black every time he touches the pavement and 85 degrees with 87% humidity The location is great as well! Angels stadium, Disney and so many other things. If I had to choose somewhere to stay close by and save money by using the trailer, this is where I'd stay! You don't even realize you are in the middle of a very busy city! This park is family friendly and slow paced. The amount of cars moving around was so little I let the kids ride around without me. Well done Orangeland! Oh! I forgot to add! They seem to strive to be disability friendly! Now I'm not disabled and don't know everything required but they have ramps in all the public places making it easier to get places. They do not have a pool chair.

It…read morestarts from the peaceful campground and continues onto Baden-Powell peak, the 4th highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop at several other peaks, such as Dawson, Hawkins, Throop, and Burnham. This would add several more miles to the total hike. The trail is single file with varying sizes of loose rock under foot. Most of the trail is a fairly tame ascension, but there are also multiple areas of decline, which of course means climbing up on the way back. You will follow signs to Windy Gap, Pacific Crest Trail, then Baden-Powell. At the summit, there are nice 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains and cities far below. A dedicated monument and plaque stands, honoring and named after the founder of the Boy Scouts. parking - adventure pass required for the parking lot tip - this hike starts at about 5,000 feet, so it may be cooler than expected, depending on the season. In the summer heat, though, it's still quite warm.

It's a secure and peaceful gated community where you can feel safe. The neighbors are friendly and respectful, which adds so much to the overall experience. Love the idea that there is a pet park and grass areas for our little furry family members. I really felt very comfortable knowing that property managers Maria and Jessie are truly outstanding--always attentive, proactive, and genuinely caring, from the time I first came to the park, until the time I left. You can tell they take pride in the park and the community. It's rare to find an RV park that feels this safe, organized, and welcoming.
