I've had the privilege to experience the San Bernadino County side of the San Bernardino National Forest when I lived in Big Bear. It was beautiful and fun for hiking adventures. This time, I was on the Los Angeles County side of The San Bernardino National Forest. I was on the side that feels really desert-like. It's dirt and very dry weather, and then suddenly when you hit the National Forest, it is green and gorgeous. Boy, it is really something when you go from the desert to green trees and pretty views!!! The temperature cooled down too. I love the forestry landscape and lush trees everywhere. I'm thankful that we have National Forests like this that are protected! We must protect them at all costs!

Camping reservation is available and brown bins to hide food from animals and bears available. One bathroom available and it's cleaned by rangers. Trash is also picked up if you need help cleaning. Beauty of a sky at night. They gave a fire pit area and three large benches to eat and sit. Cons: The drive as soon as you get to the off road areas you lose reception. We got lost so I recommend having a back up plan with maps that help off roading areas. Also we took our Tundra for the first time off road and regretted it immediately. BEWARE: The bushes and trees are not cut down to clear the roads and our truck was completely scratched from both sides. Only bring cars you don't care about and plan to use them through bushes and trees that scratch the paint. We learned the hard way. Also the drive up and down the mountain is very dangerous. If you come early the fog makes it hard to see. We got rain in the afternoon and it's very slippery cars also drive crazy and pressure you to go over the required speed. We had to wait 45 min coming down the mountain Sunday when we left due to a car accident. Again locals drive crazy and ride your car or pass you up. Be really cautious! All in all great camping trip but the truck issue was horrible. We now have to pay to try and wax the truck or have to fully re-paint.

The drive up the mountain was a…read morelittle scary with all the winding roads, but the views along the way were absolutely beautiful and made the trip even more memorable. Once we arrived, the camp itself was really well maintained. The cabins were clean, comfortable, and a great setup for a group. I was especially impressed with how clean the showers and restrooms were, not always something you expect at a camp, but they were kept in really good condition. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, and they helped make the whole experience run smoothly. The views and surrounding landscape are stunning, and it's such a peaceful place to spend time outdoors. Overall, it was a great experience for a school trip and a perfect place for kids to enjoy nature in a safe, clean, and beautiful environment. I would definitely come back again.

He said he never had a warm meal and all meals were cold and even not cooked properly. He said staff seemed nonchalant to their concerns. Don't recommend bringing your group here if they are in charge of providing the food.

Very peaceful and relaxing area of the mountains…read more First time visitors as we are here with a group of 18 family and friends. It is a well kept area, clean and quiet dispute all the critters walking around our tent last night including two hollowing ??? About fifty feet away. This is nature after all. Not a big deal to some but for someone that has not camped in over 30 years, I was wide awake most of the night and now, I need a short nap to recharge. Fully recharged after my nap and I am ready to enjoy the this outing once again. We visited this camp ground with a group of eighteen in all and we had a BLAST! We had camp sites 5, 6, 7 and 8. We all had 6-person tents yet had enough room for twenty-tents as our areas combined were HUGE! We played games, bonfires, ate together, used cots, went hiking, visited a public playground less than one mile away and used a zip line, played volleyball and had a picturesque view of Lake Arrowhead. There is also a hospital w/ emergency services directly in front of our camp ground entrance if such services were ever needed. I can definitely see us returning in the near future but for now, the memories we created will stay with us forever.

Hello, the campground was full this weekend. On Thurs I got…read morea wild hair and checked for reservations and coincidentally I got one night only at the best site #19. Incidentally, when we arrived to check-in, we were greated by a delightful Dennis! He was a wealth of knowledge. He rakes each site before the next person comes. Aside from making it clean for the next person...he picks up all tiny trash and food bits we toss around and dont make it into the fire pit. He cleans all of this up which prevents "visitors" while were sleeping. Yes, visitors. Were in nature but it belongs to squirrels, mice, snakes, bears, coyotes and mountain lions. So we took note and did a full look for any bits we left behind so Dennis could just rake and not worry about out food and trash. He's a great guy and youll hear his cart going around checking on things. He is actually security, housekeeping, front desk, greeter, janitor, grounds keeper, friendly neighbor, game warden for the little camp ground, so be respectful bc he lives where he works. If you hate the thought of snakes and bears, stay some place like a city KOA. This area is lush with trees and full of dry brush...(snakes like the brush!) Also bugs werent an issue whatso ever!....we sprayed ourselves with OFF and were fine. Kept tent zipped up in case of critters. We did not see any snakes or bears. Upon departure we saw a coyote in the morning near the entrance doing his own thing. Upon arrival check in with the Delightful Dennis, your camp host. Follow his directions to a T and youll be fine. I keep a bear bell, air horn and utility knife for protection in my tent. No swimming or showers at camp ground... Swim at Lake Gregory!!!- Arrowhead is a no swim lake.

I've camped here a few times and it's always a good experience. Not too far from LA and Highway 38…read moreis a much easier drive than Highway 18 going to Big Bear in my opinion. Flush toilets and free showers available (both are generally clean with adequate hot water to shower with, and you'll see the "off duty" host clean them every day, but their condition will be highly dependent on your neighbors). There are a few hiking trail options during your stay: from inside the campground, if you follow the trail by the entrance/the hosts' RVs, to the right, a quick scurry across the highway, there's a mile long hike up to Jenks Lake. If you go left, you'll go through a few other campsites, then an amphitheater, and then an overlook area with a picnic table. There are a few loops in the trees behind the campgrounds, but I'm not sure where they lead as I just turned around eventually. The east loop (1-22) feels more spread out and private although there aren't really too many decent places to hang a hammock in most spots. The west loop (23+) feels a little closer together (but also not bad) with a lot more trees for shade and to hang hammocks. The west loop also tends to have more RVs and generator users for whatever reason though. I've mostly stayed on the east loop and would suggest bringing a canopy for shade. Even though the temperature may not seem that high, the sun is HOT, and is a little unbearable around 1 PM - 3 PM. Surprisingly, bugs are mostly a non issue even in the summer. Bundles of firewood for sale if conditions allow. $10 a bundle as of 07/2025 cash only. Expect each bundle to last about an hour. The host will go around selling however many fits on their cart or you can just drive your car up to the active host and fill your trunk. Big Bear is also a 30 minute drive away.

This Prayer Set The Tone For The Entire Camp Stay. The Amazing Blessings that our family ended up taking home were Beyond Anything We Expected Or Imagined - A True Ephesians 3:20 Experience. The Camp Schedule, its Coordination and Execution was Tick-Tock-On-The Spot! Event after Awesome Event - they run a tight ship! The Care and Attention that each and every one of the Camp Counselors demonstrated from the very beginning was beyond Impressive -especially when the large majority were totally new to working as Camp Counselors. From the outset, at our first meal, Counselor Melanie came and sat down with us, chatting -welcoming, and incredibly Sweet! Ashley the Camp Media Star also came and sat next to us at our table. We chatted nicely, when suddenly, Ashley noticed a new family sitting at a different table... but were all alone. She mentioned this to Melanie, politely excused herself and went to make the new family feel as though they were at home and among Family! THE FOOD IS PHENOMENAL! Chef Oscar is one dedicated individual! Together with his Son Vincent, Each and Every Morning and Night they serve up A New Deliciously Tasting Meal! Raviolis, Pasta, Enchiladas, Chinese Food, Pancakes, Waffles, Biscuits And Gravy, Lasagna, On and ON!!! DELICIOUSNESS! Wow - what an Incredible Setting! Each Worship Experience outdid the ones before. As we worshipped, the Spirit of God was palpable and increasingly present. My two sons Absolutely Loved The Preaching of Pastor Heras, wanting more and more! Ultimately, there was a call to Baptism ... And Both of My Boys Gave Their Hearts To Christ and Were Baptized the following day at Camp! INCREDIBLE! Pastor Paulo and his Wife Ana are true Servants of Christ. My shower has great water pressure and plenty of hot water :) The camp has improved tremendously from when I used to go there as a teen in the 90's. Back then the food was bland and without any thought put into it. Boy has it changed...we had focaccia pizza with tomato bisque soup our first night there! Pleasantly surprised to find Vegan options are available now not just your plain vegetarian SDA options. The weekend was filled with various delicious options and I looked forward to the savory experience of every meal! There are also numerous pine trees throughout that provide shade and a relaxing sound with the wind. I loved the nature part of this camp, and loved that there was even a walking trail traversing the perimeter of the grounds. The campsites are well spaced out for the most part as the campground is pretty big. Some sites are on the perimeter of the camp (best sunset views) and some on the inner part of the camp such as our campsite on site 83. Our site was near a bathroom which was very clean with no stench upon arrival. We also were near a water spout which had drinking water but per the host doesn't have the best taste (so I would recommend bringing your own water if you're sensitive to that). The host that came by was very nice and proactive in telling us about not just the campground but also the area around. First off he offered us firewood for purchase that he had in the back of the truck which was a nice gesture. He also told us about a lake nearby for fishing called Jackson lake which we went to & also about the town which are all about 10 mins away. The town is small and quaint but cute! The lake is small but beautiful and perfect for a picnic. Overall our group thoroughly enjoyed this place and we will be back :)

They also have many spots designated as "first come first serve" which is nice as that means you have a good chance of just showing up on the fly and getting a spot if needed. One downside is the last 2 miles getting into the campground is unpaved and was a bit rough with a camper but we made it. We'd definitely camp here again
