Camped: Friday July 24-25, 2015…read more After hiking Mt Baden-Powell 2 months ago, my friends and I wanted to camp out in Wrightwood and hike Big Horn Mine next time we went out there. So after discussing dates, we settled on this past weekend. I looked up campsites around the area, checked the Forest Service website for more info, and settled on Blue Ridge Campground. Our back up campground was Guffy Campground, which is also nearby. Directions: You take the 2 Hwy past the city of Wrightwood, keep going past Mountain High Ski, and the next turn after the ski lifts is Blue Ridge Rd (I think there's an East or West added to the street sign). You make a left turn onto the street, with Wrightwood behind you. It is a dirt road, and road conditions are a little rough. We took 2 SUVs out there and they did perfectly fine. My Mazda 6 would not have made the trek up. It's about 3 miles from the turn to the campground, which is at the top of the Mountain High Ski lifts. The road takes you directly there. Campground: It says there are 8 spots. First come first serve, I think I only saw 7. You only need an Adventure Pass to camp here (you can pick one up at the ranger station, sport chalet, rei day use is $5, yearly $30), meaning the campground itself is free. There are 4 vault toilets. Decent and they had toilet paper. Each site had a campfire ring and a picnic table. The views are amazing up here. Since the campground is perched on top of a mountain, you can see city lights on both sides of the mountain. I tried to catch the sunset, but it's obscured by trees and mountains. It's still so beautiful though! I saw a glimpse of the sunrise and it lit the sky up! Tips: HIgh clearance vehicles or 4 wheel drive. Adventure pass. Call to check fire restrictions, when we went we were allowed a campfire. Bring your own water, there is no water up here.

(Pay extra for firepit 5 -10 dollars) we didn't get that. It was pitch black it was just nice. Be sure to being jackets it was cold . I would go again. Never made it to BONITA FALLS just lytle creek. Water was perfect. I wished they had donate box to help keep up with place. Little help won't hurt.

9/7/2026 thru 9/9/2025…read more We come to Dogwood every year because we really Love it here. We do the hiking trail twice a day, grill some meats, take Hot showers before bed and sleep in tents. It is beautiful here, the facilities are clean and most importantly you can take Free HOT showers. This year we planned to stay two nights at Campsite #87. But left early, only staying the one night leaving around 1pm on 9/8/2025. During the night around 1am we heard someone or an animal walking around outside our tent. (We have Never experienced any kind of wild life animal or people walking into our campsite before. This was the first time this happened to us). The steps were light and almost human. The light grunting and chewing on what sounded like twigs or maybe acorns and light heavy breathing is what made us realize it was not human. But we were not sure and all of us were scared to look outside. After staying still and playing dead for two to three hours we finally fell asleep and woke up around 5:30am. And started our day. Went for a hike and came back to our tent / campground. HUGE Black Bear encounter. We got back to our campsite before 10ish, ate, relaxed and were drinking tea. When suddenly out of no where I saw a huge Black Bear just casually strolling into our neighbors campsite walking past their RV camper and headed we towards the garbage dumpsters or towards the Rimforest high school. We Jumped into our car and stayed there until the bear was out of site. Then we met with the Park ranger and let them know that we just saw the Black bear. Park ranger then confirmed that the bear was also here last night. And that that there was a Mountain Lion lurking around as well. So we had to be on high alert and if we see the mountain lion to hide or get in your car. I gave my family members one look and within one second we agreed to pack up and head back home. Although we know bears can be seen whenever you go hiking or camping. We never expected it to actually ever happen to us. So to be safe we had to cut our trip short.

The biggest downside was that the highway that runs right by the campsite is really noisy. There are motorcycles constantly. Even all through the night. They woke us up several times. The lake area by the campsite isn't easily accessible so it's better to drive a mile down the road to the main lake parking. We brought kayaks but the lake is narrow and a lot of people are fishing so it wasn't practical to kayak. We were worried about fishing lines. The kids caught a lot of little fish and a few small catfish. The weather in July was beautiful and a nice break from the summer heat. Overall we enjoyed it and would definitely come back again.

I drove to their site to let them know when I was leaving, and the host was super nice! She said that Jackson lake is a water source for a lot of animals, but a clean campsite will discourage unwanted guests. Speaking of.. Please throw away your trash before you go to bed! We had a large animal visitor that went through some trash at a neighboring campsite and then started shaking my truck looking for more! I thought it was hilarious (and a bit terrifying), but I could easily see it being super terrifying if I were tent camping on the ground!

Our family and friends have made so many wonderful memories here. The amenities and grounds are very well maintained. Throughout the years we've seen many changes, improvements and upgrades. The splash pad is perfect for families with little littles. We've always felt safe, comfortable and welcome. The rangers are good at keeping order and safety. This place is a little oasis, filled with family friendly fun spaces and even adult only relaxation/party zones! The HOLIDAYS and all the seasons!! Omg! SO MUCH FUN! New Years, Easter, Summer, HALLOWEEN, Winter! The ambiance, activities and events are core memory makers for sure. Unfortunately the meadow area was washed out by a winter rain storm (Dec. 2025), but we're excited to see what it will look like once it's back open. Chillaxin in the creek was top tier! My kids absolutely love the splash pad, mini golf, and the family swimming pools. One of my favorite perks is the adults-only pool, where you can unwind with a drink from the full-service bar while the kids enjoy all the family activities. My husband always looks forward to fishing in the trout and catfish ponds, which always seem to be well stocked. The convenience store on the property is another huge plus--it has all the best snacks along with basic groceries, so you never have to leave the resort if you forget something. You just find a spot... you'll find out pretty soon that people come riding motorcycles dirt bikes and ATV`s through the road at all times except at night late night other than that it's close to the lake and if you have a fishing license you can fish and plenty of places to shop and eat and a couple of bars if you want to get a drink. No campfires allowed which was a big disappointment but we made do with a propane gas grill. If you don't mind roughing out all that, it's a nice place to set up a tent for the night. Make sure to bring toilet paper trash bags no toilet and bug spray plenty of bugs if you get my drift bugs in your ears no water or running water I should say so baby wipes and plenty of baby wipes. Before I end this review just a little heads up if you've ever been on a scavenger hunt beware it's very secretive and you'll get text messages to find a spot and if you're still confused as we were the host that you book the site with may or may not drive down to meet you and help you out as to where you set up your tent. it's a free-for-all first come first serve place you tent wherever you find a little flat area which isn't very many. Spent two nights at this campground mid-October…read more Pros: allow pets, right across the street from the lake, price (cheaper than other spots in the area this time of year) Cons: closer to humanity than expected (nearby the road and lots of car/lake noise), trails were not well marked/easy to follow, but we had a good adventure nonetheless. No campfires or flames of any kind, but that's typical now because of the drought. Some of the lots were very small and overall none of them were very private. Tips: Try to camp in one of the corner spaces to have more privacy. We had #68 which was decent size compared to others. We were told there was a bear problem in the area (not in the campsite itself) and to lock things away in our car. They don't have bear canisters, so bring a blanket or something to cover your food in the car.

You have to drive for a long time on a dirt road, back into a canyon on the back side of Wright Mountain. Nestled at the base of Pine Mountain, Lupine Campground is very beautiful with a lot of trees. It seem to rarely get windy in the area because it is sheltered by the mountains. This is a great place to use as a starting point for hiking into the more remote areas of the San Gabriel Mountains. Unfortunately there is no running water and you have to deal with pit toilets.
