Spots are too small and pricey, bathroom was bad, the store was closed, they open too late and they closed at 6, every time that you need came in you need to go and tell somebody to open. We rent 2 spots and the hobbit house; one of the worst thing was the hobbit house where my sister and her family got bitten of bedbugs. The river was dirty, not of the pictures showed . The only good thing was the Lady of the front, she's so sweet and kind. read more

Under new management! I took my dog up here for a quick trip and although tucked away far in the San Gabriel Mountains, it was well worth the trip. Inside their cafe/general store they had ample supplies just in case you forget anything. I was pleasantly surprised to see they have beers on tap too. It was a nice getaway from the heat during this summer. The fries were piping hot and delicious. The customer service was great and friendly. There is a nice stream/river on the right of the campsite. I will return! read more

So my husband was the person to rent this spot he thought it would be a better spot considering the hike we took last time to get to the camp site however its exactly what we should have done!!!!as soon as we came to this supposedly resort the area we paid for was very small the river was horrible and dirty full of leeches the people are so dirty throwing used toilet paper on the floor mind you it's a very small restroom for the amount of people they let stay there and it seems no one follows the rules there was like 20 people staying next to us and I thought it was only 5 people per area I would not recommend this spot to anyone !!!!! read more

Hidden fees and rules that are never available prior to booking. Dog fee, parking fee, tent limit, no charcoal or wood fires, the list goes on. We booked a "family spot" next to the river which includes two parking spaces, only to find out that you have to pay for the second one. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

This review is long overdue lol. We went this October with our family and two sets of neighbors and thier families. Miss Kathy and Miss Joanne are just beyond Amazingly Wonderful! My family just loves and adores her! This was our second year coming and we are very happy we did! The grounds keeper does a good job keeping the place clean and the restrooms stocked. Our friend had a rough time sleeping with his sleeping bag so Miss Kathy provided him with an air mattress. The neighbors near Camp Williams are beautifully friendly and super sweet! This was our 2nd year bringing our basketball program up to Camp Williams Resort for our boys basketball retreat and it was even better than last year. Joyce, Kathy and Lynn were amazing . They took care of us and even cooked the boys breakfast burritos. What a trash campground!!! All roads are closed to get there due to a wildfire and they will not refund our money even though it is impossible to attend. There are good people that understand circumstances and work with you. This place is just a bunch of clowns that only want their $. Shame on you Camp Williams. Let me first start by saying I was very hesitant because of all of the bad reviews of this place. That being said I decided to go and check it out myself and I'm glad I did. The first thing I wanna point out is that there is new management and definitely not some rude man stomping around the campground being mean and vulgar. The new managers name is Kathy and she is wonderful she has a lot on her plate there but made our camping experience great. It was Easter weekend and around 6 o'clock after her and her wonderful worker Joanne closed down the cafe( opened from 8am-7pm) they walked down to our campgrounds checking in on everybody and even handed out candy to the kids. The campsite was very clean the river was wonderful and perfect for little kids and the bathrooms were always fully stocked. I also seen bad reviews about the bathroom but people don't put into consideration that this is a bathroom in the middle of the forest where there is a ton of dirt and people going in and out fresh out of the river. The showers were nice and warm and they were a ton Of other families there with their kids camping out. At the café they sell breakfast Burgers hotdogs and typical things you would think they would sell at a café. They also sell candy sunblock and other camping accessories that you might need while you're there. The alcohol refrigerator is stocked and anytime you run out at your campsite you can go up to the store and buy some more including the corona margaritas ,seltzer's and Cheladas. The freezer was also stocked with ice. The water was clean and I didn't see any trash around the campsite in the bathroom or in the river the entire time we were there. There is no Wi-Fi and no reception up there but they do have a payphone right next to the café. Me and my kids had a great time and I even booked two more reservations for two separate times throughout the year. It cost $75 a night which isn't bad considering we only have to drive an hour away to go camping and with gas prices the way they are it was perfect I was quiet and people were considerate around the campground I would definitely recommend this campground to anybody who has a family and kids or just wants to get up and get away and enjoy a nice campground. Kathy and Joanne were both very friendly and welcoming and made our time there very pleasant I'll attach a ton of pictures to make you see what I'm talking about. read more

I can't begin to say enough Great things about Camp Williams. We had a group of 13/3 camp sites and we had the time of our lives. We got to experience the Gold Rush with gold panning and skits and a camp fire with a ghost story. We even got a history lesson on the area. Bill, Kitty, Steve and friends made us feel welcomed and like family. The general store had anything we could need and the prices were more then fair. We all look forward to going back. WE NEED YOUR HELP SAVING CAMP WILLIAMS The camp was destroyed by the winter weather over half the camp was lost and there are lots of hoops to jump through in order to rebuild. This is the last camp ground on this river and I'd hate to see it close. We are already talking about making this a annual tradition with our families. So please if u have been to camp Williams leave them a great yelp review, write our Congress men call Bill the owner and see how u can help. Camp Williams was an amazing experience for my family. This was our first time here and we had an amazing time . The staff and the owner were super nice. The owner visited us daily, making sure we were having fun and enjoying ourselves . We would to come back here and make this our father's day tradition. I'm leaving two stars because I was not a guest here, let me be more specific; I come here just to look at the RV campsites to see if me and two other families may want to come here for vacation. I was immediately greeted by the rudest man I have ever met who yelled at me and my wife. I asked if we could see the RV sites and he said only people who have signed the waiver are allowed in. So I asked if I signed the waiver would I be allowed to see the site, I was refused. Also found out the the pool is NOT for campers. This campsite must have all the business they need because it's employees can afford to chase people off. Update: I messaged the campsite to let them know how rude this person was, their response was even more rude and they cared more about what kind of car I drove rather than fixing the issue or even a simple apology. I have lowered my rating to one star. I wish it could go lower. I advise everyone to stay way from this campsite whenever possible. read more

Had a good time with my kids at camp William. It's private and friendly. I took my Rv. Couldn't ask for more. The creek was nice and had good flow. The only thing that I dislike is that there's no fires allowed :(. That's the main part about camping, A nice warm fire to hang out at night when the temperature is 35 degrees. Place is a mess and unorganized. Showers are real bad and always full of wild life, pest, spiders etc. Bears roam the camp ground at night and no security, ranger, or even a night shift worker. Had a bear in our campsite and no one from the grounds to handle it. No reception so we couldn't call no one. We had to sleep in our cars because it was unsafe. Management wouldn't give a refund eventho we were scared our our wits and they didn't even have a bean bag gun or a BB gun on the premises in case everything went south with the bear. No water for the camp sites other than the river. No security fencing so kids don't fall into the river if going to the bathroom at night. Always noisy and they have ground pipes showing through the dirt. There's a rumor someone killed themselves in a trailer and it almost caught the whole mountain on fire because they didn't have any extinguishers. Or a fire hose near by. The residents who live on the camp ground told us this. We won't come back here. But it's not the same since it was flooded out years ago. Now it's barely got tape holding the signs up. And 1 loose tooth away from being hillbillie land. I would just spend the extra hour and go to Calico, crystal lake, pyramid lake, Tahoe, etc.. read more

I have stayed here 2 times before, but this was so terrible I wanted to come home the next day. I rented site 8 and 9 thinking it would be great right next to the restroom. Upon arrival people were parked in our site, It was extremely hot not the camp site fault of course but couldn't catch any shade. The traffic to the restroom was extreme all hours of the night and people were really loud. The wasp came out the moment we started to cook it was bad and they never left for the 2 full days we were there. We couldn't eat or have family times out of the tent. My whole family got so bitten from insects and no bug spray would help. We were such in a hurry to leave Sunday morning to get some relief. Camp Williams is located on a prime, perfect price of the San Gabriel River. Perfect spot for an afternoon swim or for a nice scenic hike. I recommend asking for a campsite as far up the river as possible to be further away from the mobile hone park which has lights on all night long. All of the campsites at camp Williams are on the water so basically every site is great! Camp hosts are very nice and very tolerant of everyone. read more

This woman was are so rude when I called to ask a couple questions and she spoke to me like she was annoyed from the start stating " If this has to do with the camp grounds, we are closed because of COVID and we won't jeopardize our staff" and right after she clicked on me before I can get a word in. I called back and I told her I just called and she said " YES I KNOW, LIKE I SAID WE ARE CLOSED" and I did tell her she was being extremely unprofessional and doesn't need to speak to me that way. She didn't care. I'm a very understanding person and I know we are under a pandemic but she could've just answered my questions nicely and I would've went on with my day. After reading the mostly good reviews (with a few scathing ones which I now understand), and reading the VERY well done marketing website, we decided to head up to camp williams. Grain of salt here, it was a holiday weekend, but they are in the business of running a campground on a holiday weekend. They should have been ready for it. Pros: Close to LA Beautiful drive up the canyon Staff was polite and accommodating Cons: No cell, no wifi. The cell coverage is of course not their fault, but for a $45+ per night spot they should consider wifi and at the very least make the lack of coverage clear on the website. The closest trail head is 2.5 miles away with very limited parking. The website say's it's "close" to hiking. Lots of things can be considered "close" when you have to drive there. The website should be clearer about this (and admittedly I should have done my own research). The website mentions the pool three times and has lots of pics. What it only mentions once is that it's not for you. It's only for the permanent mobile home folks. Why even put that on the camp website? Security was useless. There were two LOUD parties going on that the security guy who was 25 feet away did nothing about until we asked him to. The rules state clearly that this isnt ok during quite hours or during the day. Then right after those parties got shut down, the RV next to ours started blaring music. This might not have been so bad if the RV spots were not right on top of eachother. The spots are about 12 feet wide with NOTHING inbetween. The website mentions "plenty of room for slides". No. Just no. My neighbor's dump station was 2 feet from my picnic table. The "clean modern restrooms" were neither. Dirty, no locks on the stalls, no mirror. And thats only if you get a spot close to the restrooms. Most of the sites are stretched far away from them within nothing but VERY dirty portapotties. I think the price is a little bit to high for this level of amenities. As I started with, the staff was accommodating. After my 3rd trip up the hill to talk to them about problems, the manager asked if I wanted a refund and I took him up on it. I will give this place another chance on a less holiday camper weekend as the cafe looked good and many of my issues were about unclear expectations. Location Location Location... It's the only place on the East Fork of the San Gabriel River to get a burger. Azusa Canyon is in our back yard but many people don't know very much about it. Indeed, the history of this canyon is immense. From native American Indians... to the gold prospectors that arrived during the gold rush... Weekend motorcycle rides, camping, hiking... Most weekends you will find me up the river digging for gold, taking a ride on my motorcycle, hiking or taking photos. Mark's campground is well maintained and it's the only place to get food and beer up that far. During the week and on non holiday weekends, it's calm and nice up there. If you get a chance, and the water's not too cold or fast, you can swim in some pools up the road a little bit. People still pull gold out of the river... bring a shovel and a pan, ask one of the prospectors up there for tips, they are friendly. There are miles of trails, of course... There are wild Bighorn Sheep, the occasional bear, bobcats... they tend to leave humans alone. The fishing is good and stocked every few weeks in the lower part of the East Fork. Well it started good very clean and well maintained how ever bill has horrible people skills. My kids where in river enjoying themselves and then I had a "KAREN" tell my kids to go away. These people had there canopy tubes and chair in the water how ever they where no where close to there stuff I like enjoying my self with my kids and I had these people tell me to move away from there stuff due to COVID-19 which was very understandable but if they didn't want any one near there stuff then why not take it out so other people can enjoy the water I told them no I'll help move your stuff if that was the case and they said no and call bill. Here comes bill tells me to move away from there stuff I asked him if they rent the camp site they also rent the river? He said they claimed there soot by leaving there stuff there and then tell me to built a dam so my kids could have a pool like river I'm there to enjoyment self with family not there to built a dam wtf!! Then he tells me you do what I say or I will kick you out and I said if you kick me out will you refund me my $ he said no he was the law and I needed to obey at that point what do I do I understand that it's private property and all but there's no where online or he's rules that's states you rent space a and claim the river as well if the "KAREN" group where really that worried about Covid-19 they should have stayed home and let other people enjoy them selfs bill should really take some management classes and maybe have more common sense if they are not using river get stuff out so other people can enjoy. read more

I have been going to Camp Williams for years. I enjoy the campground, the patrol they have at night and the cafe. Pro: Camping Next to the Riverfront Beautiful Scenic Family loves it Showers Cons: Paying for showers Stream is low due to drought Loud sometimes (because of knuckleheads) All in all I love Camp Williams, I do not like to see liter and trash. And my hope for all areas of the east fork is that visitors would respect nature and pick up after themselves. It is so sad to be at the picnic areas and see all sorts of trash, when a dumpster is right there. My hope for the future, charge more money to get into the mountains so people will stray away. My wife and I camped here for the weekend with our three small dogs. We had a great time. The folks are very nice and breakfast at the cafe is delicious (try the pancakes.). This place was great. We had reservations to bungee jump at Bridge To Nowhere, so we didn't stay at the campground during the day. Despite that, we felt our tents and other camp gear were safe sitting in the campground while we were gone for the better part of the day. The staff at the registration counter were very helpful and polite. They made check-in a very swift process. In this part of the forest, there's no phone service. The resort has a couple pay phones, so make sure to bring coins in case you have to use the phone. The campsites are clean and organized. The ground isn't completely level, but it's good enough to sleep on without hurting your back. There aren't any fire rings, but stoves are allowed. Each site has a standard picnic bench. The bathrooms are clean. They're fully stocked with toilet paper, have clean sinks, nice and warm pay showers (tokens only, $1/token/6 min), and trash cans that are emptied regularly. See photos. Called and the man who answered was so rude, and I was told it was 40 dollars for a day pass when my father called about pricing but the gentleman on the phone tells me 50. We came here for my birthday in July for a quick over-nighter. We are new to the area and trying to find the wilderness mtn type terrain as that is what we are used to in the Santa Cruz mountains and Northern California. We didn't put any thought into what we were doing, just going to do an over night camp trip. Love these trips. We bring the minimum stuff with us and everything was quick set up. compared to our normal bring everything and the sink stuff or even our trailer. lol We found Camp Williams, well I researched it a few weeks prior and wanted to check it out. It took us about 1 hour from Norwalk, where we were staying at that time, now in Whittier, got up here and walked into the cafe. One of the ladies was there and helpful. They have a few sites available and they let us check them out before we committed to what we were going to do. Since we got there in the early afternoon, the gave us 1/2 price for 1 night on a Saturday night. Normal price is $50, which I think is very expensive for tent camping. $25 is was more doable. We weren't even expecting that. So that was cool. We set up camp and met some really nice people next to us, must of 5 families in one area for the yearly camp trip. We have good friends, big group we do that with too almost every year. So we hung out with them and they were so friendly and generous, feeding us and giving us shots, playing cards and dominos, we had a good ol drunkin time. :-) We shared our beers. Nice spot on the river, although low, there was still water to wade in. Mosquitoes are out and spiders- I got bit pretty bad over night on my back and neck, still have scars from them. ugh Love the desert/mtn terrain. As someone else mentioned, yes the bathrooms were pretty bad the regular bathroom which is only one in the camp as far as I know and some outhouses. puke everywhere and crap(literally) just horrible. Definitely heard some peeps at night loosing their guts from the booze. I'm glad I didn't drink that much. It is kind of noisy at night so bring ear plugs. sites are pretty good, not to spacey but not too small either, we could fit another tent on ours but not another car. No bears, this time. I'm sure they are there as people have said. We will be back again sometime. Customer service was pretty good and we did get some breakfast in the am, very cheap too and not too bad. I love how there was creek a few steps away from where we pitched the tent! We were able to take our chairs into the creek while enjoying some games too! My family and I come here almost every year for the past 9 years. I want to start off by saying the $40 is worth the price, you have a person on the campsite 24/7 on the watch for bears, snakes and emergency needs (sorry I can't remember his name). He comes by and greets you, offering his services if needed (no there is no fee). The campsite is always clean, and so are the portable potty's. The trash is taken out by the campsite owners daily. The owners are very protective of their customers and want them to enjoy themselves when camping. I myself have been declined to check out the sites when the campsites was full. I did not take offence to it, but appreciated the fact that when my family and I are camping here again, we are comfortable knowing Bill is watching out for the camping families. The river is the best, you can move rock around and make your own seating area. I recommend :) read more
