We reserved Campground No. 12, a spacious corner lot that offers one of the BEST VIEWS of the sunset. During summer hours, the sun doesn't set fully until close to 9 pm, and from a distance, I could see the city lights, which was Lancaster. The campground provides bear lockers to store food, as bears are commonly seen in the area. It's essential to keep food properly in the evening. The campground also has flush toilets and toilet paper, though they may not be the cleanest. There's a fire pit for burning wood and a table for dining. If you forget to bring your wood, the campground host sells a bundle for $10. Overall, I had a great time hanging out with friends, and the distance is tolerable for many Angelenos.

What an awesome little spot!…read more Emphasis on little. The campsites are very close to one another with very tight parking for your vehicles. However, if you come in with more of a community mindset than seeking isolation in nature, it'll be just fine. We went camping with our teen and our toddler (sorry neighbors), but there were lots of other children around so it felt pretty family-friendly. The camp host was super friendly and they had local firewood for sale onsite. Facilities were pretty clean, even when they were a little bit more on the trashed side during a 5am bathroom run (was it children or critters, idk but the toilet paper was everywhere haha). Every campsite had a bear box, picnic bench, and fire pit; trash disposal was conveniently placed and walking distance from most campsites. Since it was July, it was on the warmer side but still fresh and beautiful. My toddler had a blast chasing all the lizards. And while we were a little nervous about the bear warnings with a hyperactive toddler in our party, we didn't see anything bigger than a squirrel. We will definitely be back!

The restroom was dirty which I didn't like the trash containers were full. The days we were there they weren't being empty, also there was trash everywhere. The reason they don't let portable bathrooms tents is because people would throw their poop into the river which is disgusting people need to respect Gods nature, please don't leave trash when you leave. Besides all this place is beautiful slightly quiet but some noisy with cars and motorcycles racing on the Main Street going up or down hill. The biggest downside was that the highway that runs right by the campsite is really noisy. There are motorcycles constantly. Even all through the night. They woke us up several times. The lake area by the campsite isn't easily accessible so it's better to drive a mile down the road to the main lake parking. We brought kayaks but the lake is narrow and a lot of people are fishing so it wasn't practical to kayak. We were worried about fishing lines. The kids caught a lot of little fish and a few small catfish. The weather in July was beautiful and a nice break from the summer heat. Overall we enjoyed it and would definitely come back again.

We got one with really nice view of the sunset with a shaded area with the trees. Every campsite comes with a fire pit and a large bench table. The dumpsters and restrooms are throughout the campgrounds so you'll never be too far away. There's also a couple hikes nearby like the Silver Moccasin trail right outside. There's no running water so you need to bring your own! NOTE: No fires are allowed until Jan 2026 bc of the recent fires. This includes campfires and portable stoves. The current fee is $12 but will increase to $20 in May 2025. You can also contact the Chilao Visitor Center if you have any more questions.

Along the way, there are opportunities to stop at several other peaks, such as Dawson, Hawkins, Throop, and Burnham. This would add several more miles to the total hike. The trail is single file with varying sizes of loose rock under foot. Most of the trail is a fairly tame ascension, but there are also multiple areas of decline, which of course means climbing up on the way back. Our tent was clean and the layout and amenities were well thought out. The pool and community bathrooms were very clean and well taken care of. There are also a lot of activities offered here- ping pong, foosball, a clubhouse with games and books, swimming, hiking, movies, smores, yoga. All make for a fun weekend. Some helpful tips that we would like to offer: - no cellular data here, which was fine with us since we wanted to disconnect. There is only WiFi in the reception area. - pool is filled with spring water (read: cold), we would recommend to visit during the thick of summer if you're coming with kids. While the adults enjoyed the crisp water, it was a bit too cold for some of our kids. - the food is on the expensive end- $20ish burger + fries, $12 yogurt bowl, $11 smoothies (I was disappointed to see how little fruit and veggies went into our smoothies- they're mostly juice). - a loooot of yellow insects with stingers- they could be wasps or yellow jackets, not sure. I would bring the strong (deet) bug spray here because we had a the non-deet stuff and it did not work. The wasps tend to swarm where ever there's food, so it was kind of hard to enjoy a meal, both at our tent and at the cafe area. This is probably something that just comes with being outdoors, and not a Huttopia issue. But I'm including this info to try to help future visitors come prepared.
