Hidden gem in Azusa Canyon . FFS closer than Big Bear Been back 2 Twice probably return 3rd time

6/27/23

Very pretty camping spot. But beware of bears! Only 21 campsites which are first come, first serve. $12 per night. BEWARE! Bears in the area. The campground host will not inform you. There are about 3 of them. They aren't scared of humans or loud noises. They will get into your food. Be alert because they don't just come in the middle of the night. I was there on 6/27/23 and one bear came out around 7 pm. Store food to the best of your ability. And always pick up your trash!!! Be careful The rangers were informed back on 6/3/23 about the bears but said they couldn't do anything about it until something happened. I suggested relocating them but was just told it was their home. Which is true but they should at least then mention they're in the area. After having encountered them again just recently they seem more aggressive than before. I hope they close the campground before anything serious happens since they can't do anything about them. The photo: We didn't even spend the night at our campsite because the bears just kept coming back. A lot of people either packed up and left that night or came back the next morning to get their stuff. That's what we did, we left tents but took all our food and came back the next morning. We were going to stay from 6/27 - 7/5 but we decided it was best to leave for our safety. Hoping to get our money back since we paid the full amount for the 8 nights. But recommend paying night by night just in case.

Site 12 overlooking the creek that runs through site 10.

Nice spot, recommend it for ease of use. Park next to your site and enjoy the creek or a hike. Recommend taking your own restroom set up and being mindful of the bear. Hide your food and coolers well.

My dog loved it!

I love this small campground but it gets 3 stars for the graffiti on the tree and Boulder at my site and trash everywhere. This brings me such sadness that poeple lack the respect for nature that they would deface it like this. I had the best site, think it was 12, right along the creek. It's a shady spot with room for a 6 person tent and maybe a 4 person. My mom and I stayed here a few weeks ago after they reopened. The camp host was awesome and checked in on us many times. He even helped me jump my car on the morning I was leaving, so I gave him a bottle of wine. I was so sad about the trash, so I cleaned my site, the site next door and anything on my walks around the campground. Always leave nature cleaner than when you found it. It's not the camp hosts job to clean up after you! Even though we had obnoxious poeple drive through in the middle of the night with their race cars, it was pretty peaceful. This place is literally in my back yard because I live in Glendora. I've been waiting more than a year for this campground to reopen and I'm glad they did. I really hope they can remove the graffiti and keep it clean. Everyone needs to do their part! I love this place! Below are some pics from my campground. I told you I had the best spot! My mom and I took our dogs and we loved sitting next to the creek. It was peaceful!

The view from the tent. Perfect way to start the day off!

We love camping here with our children. The little river is a plus because the kids can play in it when it's hot.

Ask the Community - Coldbrook Campground

Are we allowed to use the fire pit?

Yes

Do they have showers?

No, just pit toilets.

Hi does anyone know if its open now?

Yes it's open! First come, first serve. I just went 2 weeks ago.

Hello Yelp community I'm here to ask some questions about this camp. First off what are all of the…

Good morning, they have pit toilets, and they do have fire rings. We were there the 3rd weekend in August, I got there Friday around 8am and there were maybe 4 spots left.

Does this campground have shower?

No it doesn't

Is there a separate fee/adventure pass required for parking?

If you pay the fee ($12), it includes the campsite and parking. Otherwise, u gotta have an adventure pass

Do we have to reserve a campsite before or is it first come first serve? & at what time are the hours?

It is first come first served. please note that there are on a few sites that accommodate large tents. Most of the front ones do, the ones on the other side of the loop are for smaller tents.

Is there cell phone reception now a couple years back I went and there was not?

zero!!! No cell service at all. If there is an emergency, the camp host Ron, is almost always there. I believe he is up front on site 2.

Any cell reception in case of emergencies? Are dogs allowed to be off leash?

No there is not cell phone reception n bout dogs without a leash I'm not sure myself I'm takin my dog but I assume to have leash on 🤷🏼‍♀️

Do you pay the $12 fee at the campground?

Yes

Are dogs on leashes allowed.?

Yes dogs are allowed.

The staff initially told me that because the river rapids were strong, I could reschedule. When I explained that I already knew the trail and was comfortable hiking it with my dog, they told me it was fine for me to hike and jump on my own, just not with the group. I agreed to those terms. However, when my brother became afraid to cross the river rapids, we had to turn back. I then called the company to try to reschedule my jump. Unfortunately, the person I spoke with on the phone was extremely rude and disrespectful. While I was trying to explain the situation, he repeatedly interrupted me and told me to "stop talking" and "let me speak." He also asked strange and unrelated questions like "how many heartbeats were with you" and "how many souls," which felt very unprofessional and made the conversation uncomfortable since it did not relate to what I was trying to achieve (which was for me to reschedule). He overall tried to make me feel stupid for no apparent reason. He was trying very hard to act tough on the phone call, which I wish he would've done in person. (Doubt he would have, he was all bark on the phone) At one point during the conversation he hung up on me. When I tried calling back from my phone number, he would not answer my calls, and I had to call again from a different phone just to reach someone. What made the situation even more frustrating was that when my boyfriend called back afterward to speak with the same person, he was treated respectfully and the conversation was completely different. Based on that experience, it unfortunately felt like I was treated with far less respect as a woman than my boyfriend was. He most likely thought he could walk all over me as a female. (Again he probably wouldn't have done that in person) I understand that policies and scheduling issues can happen, but there is no reason for a customer to be treated this way. The lack of professionalism and respect during this interaction left a very negative impression of this company. DO BETTER!!

He loved the variety of activities and made so many new friends. He came home with fun stories each day. I loved that they offered a variety of options from 2 days/week to 5 days. We returned last summer and an unexpected and sudden medical event threw our summer for a loop. They were beyond kind and accommodating. Michael, the owner, personally made sure we were taken care of at a very scary time and was just incredibly kind and communicative. I can't thank him and his staff enough for the support. I would recommend this camp for any family. Its like a classic, old-school summer day camp experience!

My son attended Adventurewood camp for the first time this week. For the most part he enjoyed…read morehimself -- particularly the characters they introduce throughout the week. However, we decided to pull him out for next week because of a very disturbing situation. He shared that a counselor had pushed him with both hands on his shoulders during a capture the flag activity. He had dropped his flag and was putting it back on when a counselor (he didn't know her name) pushed him back hard enough to make him lose his balance and fall. She also barked "you need to reset!" She didn't ask if he was ok or help him up. You'd think if this was an accidental push and he fell over she would say something like "sorry bud are you ok? Here let me help you up" but nope, not a word. A friend he's attending camp with witnessed the whole incident. Since I pick them both up in the afternoons they both recounted this situation to me and both of them noted how inappropriate her behavior was. I immediately reached out to Michael, the owner of the camp. He said he wanted to identify this counselor and get her side of the story. Understandable. My son felt uncomfortable going back the next day but I reassured him it would be handled and offered to drop him off in the morning and stick around to talk to Michael and the counselor. I wanted him to feel safe. Michael identified her (her name is Carson) and said he wanted to talk to her first, which he did a few feet away from me. I heard her say she didn't push him. They then walked over to me and she again denied everything. So we asked both kids to come over and recount what happened. They both did -- in front of her -- and reiterated she pushed him. She denied even touching him. So Michael suggests at this point that perhaps it was an accident and my son responds by saying "how do you push someone like that by accident?!" No response. So I ask her, are you saying these kids are lying? She again said she didn't touch him and at this point we send the kids away. I'm incensed because not only does she gaslight both of them to their face but tells this bold faced lie to her boss in front of the campers and me. I tell her I believe them and I think she's the one lying. At this point she gives me this dirty look - angry, irritated and almost rolls her eyes at me. I turn to Michael and say "and now she's giving ME an attitude?!" Unbelievable. In a follow up call, he tells me how good of a person she is and that this is shocking for him to hear but that she doesn't seem like someone who would do something like this...that she's getting her teacher credentials and he knows her really well. I am getting the vibe he doesn't actually believe any of this and he sounds very skeptical. I respond by telling him that it's almost always surprising when people exhibit bad behavior and that even teachers do bad things...that doesn't make her any more credible in my eyes. He acknowledged that. In fact, it's worse because I would be really concerned to have someone like that teaching a kid. Lack of empathy, accountability, and integrity. I mean, I think it's great he's trying to have her back but there are moments in life when you need to draw a line and act swiftly...these are one of those moments. Because ultimately, this impacts the reputation of your camp. I told him that it would be good to offer training to his staff in case this ever happens again in the future and honestly he sounded baffled and asked me to clarify...I said well maybe tell your staff not to give dirty looks to a mom who's clearly upset that her son just got pushed by a grown adult at summer camp?? I told him that the response to this situation could've resulted in a totally different outcome. Had she said something like "I really don't recall pushing you but if I inadvertently did and made you feel bad I'm sorry - I didn't mean to do that" - I would've went home that morning feeling fine about the situation. When I told him this he said that he's not going to police all her reactions, that she's still young, that she's still learning and made all kinds of excuses for her. Exhausting. Apparently she got a "warning" and will sit out of the flag activity (umm, ok...). He seems like a smart guy and wish him nothing but success in the future and I was earnestly trying to offer advice for how to handle a situation like this better but it fell on deaf ears. I really hope that some kind of learning comes out of this for both of them. Oh and to top it off, my son's friend told her mom that Carson was giving her looks several times throughout the day today and when she asked what kind she said "side eye" looks. NOT COOL. My son also said she was kind of mean to him but wondering why they were even in close proximity when Michael said they'd absolutely be separated and would not see each other? Validates we both made the right choice by pulling them both out. He offered a refund but I'm still pissed about the situation.
