Very peaceful and relaxing area of the mountains…read more First time visitors as we are here with a group of 18 family and friends. It is a well kept area, clean and quiet dispute all the critters walking around our tent last night including two hollowing ??? About fifty feet away. This is nature after all. Not a big deal to some but for someone that has not camped in over 30 years, I was wide awake most of the night and now, I need a short nap to recharge. Fully recharged after my nap and I am ready to enjoy the this outing once again. We visited this camp ground with a group of eighteen in all and we had a BLAST! We had camp sites 5, 6, 7 and 8. We all had 6-person tents yet had enough room for twenty-tents as our areas combined were HUGE! We played games, bonfires, ate together, used cots, went hiking, visited a public playground less than one mile away and used a zip line, played volleyball and had a picturesque view of Lake Arrowhead. There is also a hospital w/ emergency services directly in front of our camp ground entrance if such services were ever needed. I can definitely see us returning in the near future but for now, the memories we created will stay with us forever.

Incidentally, when we arrived to check-in, we were greated by a delightful Dennis! He was a wealth of knowledge. He rakes each site before the next person comes. Aside from making it clean for the next person...he picks up all tiny trash and food bits we toss around and dont make it into the fire pit. He cleans all of this up which prevents "visitors" while were sleeping. Yes, visitors. Were in nature but it belongs to squirrels, mice, snakes, bears, coyotes and mountain lions. So we took note and did a full look for any bits we left behind so Dennis could just rake and not worry about out food and trash. He's a great guy and youll hear his cart going around checking on things. He is actually security, housekeeping, front desk, greeter, janitor, grounds keeper, friendly neighbor, game warden for the little camp ground, so be respectful bc he lives where he works. If you hate the thought of snakes and bears, stay some place like a city KOA. This area is lush with trees and full of dry brush...(snakes like the brush!) Also bugs werent an issue whatso ever!....we sprayed ourselves with OFF and were fine. Kept tent zipped up in case of critters. We did not see any snakes or bears. Upon departure we saw a coyote in the morning near the entrance doing his own thing. Upon arrival check in with the Delightful Dennis, your camp host. Follow his directions to a T and youll be fine. I keep a bear bell, air horn and utility knife for protection in my tent. No swimming or showers at camp ground... Swim at Lake Gregory!!!- Arrowhead is a no swim lake.

There were surrounding trees so there's varying levels of shade throughout the day. There's a dumpster and recycling bin next to the campsite where you can throw trash and recyclable beverage containers. Bathrooms and grounds were kept clean by the nice camp host. Despite recent reviews, we decided we would chance it and stick with our reservations even with the mean lady camp host but she seems to have left the campground altogether and now it is only Jason camphosting. He was very nice and a funny guy to chat with! Craft's Peak Trail is a little less than 1 mile on the other side of the campground which is a nice moderate hike. The only downside were the yellowjackets! They would always come after us when food was out during the day. Our friends pup got stung by one. Cell service is very spotty. Perfect place to unplug from the grind!

She says that it's her day off and that the music on the campsite is not allowed. She was literally yelling at us and this was our first time speaking to this woman. Understandable to be mad if you this was our second warning but it was not. We did nothing wrong we just did not know. She came at us with intentions to fight and did not try to communicate with us. We told her that the other ranger told us that the music was fine. THEN she calls Joseph on speaker and starts getting mad at him and legit arguing with him in front of us. We literally tuned off the music and gave her what she wanted but she would not leave our spot. She said that she was gonna call the cops. But we were not fighting or arguing.... We gave her what she wanted. She said "if you get difficult I will have to start recording for my protection" CLASIC Karen move. The literal next day, our camp neighbors had music (in English) and she had not problem with it. We heard that music the whole day. But let it not be music in Spanish cause they she feels the need to record.... After this embarrassing interaction, both rangers actively avoided us.... We reserved the week and only spent 1 night. The spot was great, the staff not so much.

You just find a spot... you'll find out pretty soon that people come riding motorcycles dirt bikes and ATV`s through the road at all times except at night late night other than that it's close to the lake and if you have a fishing license you can fish and plenty of places to shop and eat and a couple of bars if you want to get a drink. No campfires allowed which was a big disappointment but we made do with a propane gas grill. If you don't mind roughing out all that, it's a nice place to set up a tent for the night. Make sure to bring toilet paper trash bags no toilet and bug spray plenty of bugs if you get my drift bugs in your ears no water or running water I should say so baby wipes and plenty of baby wipes. Before I end this review just a little heads up if you've ever been on a scavenger hunt beware it's very secretive and you'll get text messages to find a spot and if you're still confused as we were the host that you book the site with may or may not drive down to meet you and help you out as to where you set up your tent. it's a free-for-all first come first serve place you tent wherever you find a little flat area which isn't very many. We flew from NorCal to on 1/7/17 with 3 adults and my 12 year old nephew, to visit Santa's Village. Though I remember stories about it, I never got to visit them before it had burned down. Until now.... All of us had a blast! The lines had thinned out from December so the longest line we waited in was about 20 min to ride the train. We got to have a private audience with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The elves took us as a family in to meet Santa, just by ourselves. I think the way they do this is really wonderful because it feels very personal and private. Every person on staff is AMAZING! Smiling, energetic, having fun, being extremely helpful, and stellar customer service. They made sure we knew what attractions were open, where to go, etc. The women's bathrooms were kept excellent and clean. We lucked out with no rain. We rode Arrow's Adventure. Ate a lovely meal at Gatherings which is a bit higher end and also quieter, and they were able to accommodate with vegetarian for one of us. We made candy cane reminders at Santa's Workshop. My 12 yr old nephew ice skated for the first time and climbed the Bouldering Room inside rock wall. We got to ride the Polar Express Train. We panned for crystals and gold. We played in the snow, throwing snowball fights - So fun! We shopped a little, played a little, ate a little and left filling that wonderful tired, content feeling when you had the most perfect day. Price Many others complain about the price but I think it was so worth it. This cannot be compared with Disneyland or Great America or Magic Mountain.... it's apples to oranges. What Santa's Village brings is MAGIC. I certainly empathize with those who are challenged with the price and hope you'll save even a few bucks per week to come. This is not a big corporation with unlimited funds; it's a small group of dedicated people, who not only invested millions to restore and re-imagine this place, they also, I can only imagine, gave their the blood, sweat and many tears to bring this dream into reality. The price of a ticket is not just an entry in for the day but an investment in creating something that is bigger and brighter for this world. Look around, the world needs more play, wonderment, curiosity, magic and kindness! You will find all of that at Santa's Village!! I'm looking forward to returning later in 2017 to experience the zip line as well as all of their hiking and biking trails... so grateful and wish I could shake the hands of all those involved for making this happen. Also, got great cell phone reception on our Sprint phones! We went in August 2018! The weather was perfect because of the high elevation! Not too hot during the day nor too cold at night! The camp sites at Crab Flats were spacious & well maintained & secluded! We had no problems finding a space to camp out, even though we didn't have a reservation, to park our 22 foot RV & our 4x4 SUV. Have a picnic table & a faucet for running water! Also, had plenty of space for several tents on each site! & surprisingly, it wasn't noisy nor overcrowded! (Only enough parking for 2 vehicles per site.) It takes at least an half hour to get there even though it is only 4 miles off the main road (which turns into a dirt road immediately) which can be hilly, windy, bumpy & narrow, sometimes only allowing one vehicle to pass. Had no problems driving our 22 foot RV & fortunately, we had no problems getting in or out because other vehicles could pass by us... The kids enjoyed riding their dirt bikes & so did we! Could also ride ATV's! Have lots of trails for off roading! Had no showers but both of the outhouses were well maintained. There is no electricity but you could easily use a quiet generator to hook up to your RV. It has a lot of trails to ride on & the flat ones in the campground were perfect for beginning dirt bike riders, like ours! There were lots of places for our kids to explore--like rocks to climb on & logs you could walk on (what could have been over a dry river bed)! Cannot use their barbecue pit because of forest fires so we used our own barbecue grill... Apart from the long & windy dirt road, making the 4 mile drive take longer than usual, Crab Flats was a great area to camp! Very scenic going in & out, plus can see all of the stars at night because it is pitch black & don't have people on top of you because the campgrounds are spacious & secluded & set apart! Our campsite was big enough to park an 22 ft RV & a SUV, plus was a big enough to hold several tents! Even brought our dog who had a great time!

Lake Gregory Water Day…read more We made the most of our day at Lake Gregory! We tried the inflatable water park, paddle boarding, and a Duffy boat ride and each one was a different kind of fun! Paddle boarding More challenging than it looks, especially when you're trying to keep your balance, but so much fun once you get the hang of it. Duffy boat Definitely the relaxing part of the day! Cruising around the lake, enjoying the scenery, and taking in the beautiful Mountain View's Inflatable water park: The kids had a blast! Adults be prepared to work for it because the climbing and balancing are no joke! Overall, such a fun family day at Lake Gregory. Definitely recommend trying all three if you're visiting!

Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. We reserved a cabana and arrived as soon as the lake opened, only to find guests setting up pop-up tents directly in front of the cabanas, completely obstructing our view of the lake. During our previous visits, tents were not permitted in this area--which is part of what made paying extra for a cabana worthwhile. I brought the issue to both the cabana hostess and the office. I explained that had we known pop-up tents would be allowed directly in front of us, we would have brought our own instead of spending the additional money on a cabana. The only solutions offered were to move or leave. I wasn't asking for a full refund--just a reasonable discount because the experience we paid for was clearly compromised--but the manager refused. To make matters worse, the wind later picked up and the tents began blowing around, creating the exact type of safety concern this policy should prevent. We've enjoyed this lake in the past, but the manager's poor handling of the situation and complete lack of customer service left us extremely disappointed. If you're considering paying extra for a cabana, I recommend confirming beforehand whether tents will be allowed to set up directly in front of it. Otherwise, the cabana may not be worth the additional cost.

According to AllTrails the hike is called Metate Trail and is approximately 2 miles of fairly flat trails. There are many different trails that links to this so you can extend your hike and go a totally different way. The Indian Rock Camp is only about 1/4 mile into the trail if you take the entrance on the left that says "interpretative." Once you get to the sign you will need to explore the hill for the Rock Camp. Our kids had a blast exploring and looking for acorns to play with. There is also a small hut for the kids to explore. Further down the trail is a small creek and lots more trail to explore. We saw signs of a large herd of deer so if you are quiet you maybe in for a surprise.

Starting at the Rock Camp Forest Service Station a very short trail (maybe a mile) winds through a…read morebeautiful grove of ponderosa pines and soon you will see a sign for the centuries (and maybe millennium) old Serrano Indian rocks that were used to grind acorns into meal for use as food. I love this place because it brings everyone back to reality, letting us know that we were not the first ones here, and we will not be the last. Its a really neat little piece of history in a secluded patch of woods. The trail head is located at 34.287955, -117.212582, just walk east and you'll run into it. There is electricity available inside and the bathrooms have 2 stalls and a shower. There is also a large cabinet to store small items. I was also concerned about the food because of prior reviews (burned hamburgers and cold cuts). It was 100% not true! Both mornings we had hot eggs and potatoes. One morning included sausage. There was a nice assortment of yogurt, fresh fruit and oatmeal with lots of extra toppings, along with nice pastries. Lunches were also quite nice and included hot entrees, salad and goodies. Dinners were hot meats, baked potatoes with lots of toppings to choose and cooked vegetables. I was more than satisfied with the amount and quality of the food. Even though our party arrived a little late on the first night, there was parking available near our cabin. Lots of varied activities were also available for all ages and abilities. Our group is looking forward to going again.
