If you know where Hot Tamales is, go behind it and hit Upscale Rio! First of all, this place has so many options of what I'd call comfort food and everything is good! They have shakes, desserts, yummy starters, mac and cheese, burgers and much more! What's my favorite thing? So many items are gluten free!! Hallelujah!! Even the burgers can be ordered with a gluten free bun! We also had a super sweet waitress! I had to go gluten free last fall and it really cut down on us eating out as most places have little to no options. Here, MOST things are gluten free!! Like what you may ask? Well, today I had chicken fried chicken, green chile gravy, mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables- a medley of corn, Lima beans ,bell peppers and red onions. They use a gluten free rice flour and the batter on the chicken was crispy and delicious!! They are also super generous with their portions so I took half of my food home and can't wait for dinner! I also had a double chocolate shake and a cold brew. They proudly brew Whispering Bean Coffee which is super tasty! My husband had the Green Chile Chicken Pot Pie and really enjoyed it and ate every bite! My mother in law had the Basic Cheddar Burger with fresh cut fries and raved about it. She also had a Key Lime Pie Shake. No photo of this, sorry! They normally have a gluten free fruit cobbler but they were out. I'll be back to try that for sure! The Steak fingers were covered in oil and tasted like the oil they were cooked in may have been older. The fries, shakes and service though were good!! I'll return but I'll get a burger instead.

Not only did they not inform us before sitting us down that they will no longer bring out raw meats and veggies and all that 25 mins before closing time; but they also made sure to remind you over and over and over and over and over. The waitress came and shoved the bill to my face whilst I was eating and said I had to pay right now so they can close down. Mind you there were about 20 others in the restaurant. She insisted on us settling the bill right now right now, and got extremely rude, condescending and frankly speaking hostile. I wonder why we were the only table that got treated differently and perhaps unwanted there. If so they should had refused service from the get go. Maybe because we were the only non-white looking people? Who knows. I will never again come back to this horrendous place.

I love cool street vendor concepts! Big John and his family who were there with him this weekend were just great. Very personable and kind. I ordered the brisket and loved it. It does come with sauce, which I really enjoyed, but you could get it without I bet. The plate was $10 with beans, potato salad and bread. Worth every penny for the food and experience! But the man immediately became aggressive, threatening to have our vehicle towed, even though the lot has multiple businesses. A woman came out to try to calm him down, standing in front of him and telling him to stop. We told her that this was a great way to treat people, especially when the restaurant isn't even open yet. Her response was: "If you come back to a broken window, that's not my fault, asshole." After that, we moved our car. She continued yelling at us as we walked away. This kind of behavior is completely unprofessional & embarrassing from the owners themselves.

So if you're a Barky BBQ Boi, sliced brisket will be your jam from ABQ Slow Smoked BBQ as opposed to the chopped brisket that seems to be the default brisket sandwich filling. But there's just something about them that every time I see them, I have to try it. We were heading to Costco, ready to lunch on a hotdog when we saw the food truck in the parking lot (closer to the sports store). The smoker attached to truck, the charming way the menu was laid out and with two people already in line, it was calling to me. The two people in line were munching on a beef rib that I'm sure he gave to them to try during the wait. The guy closest to me...the meat looked so juicy. So I said to him "man that looks so good" and all he could muster was a shake of his head, like "you have no idea". The first guy ordered and really was insistent on paying more money...(he wanted drinks but they were included in the sandwich price so he was like, well fine then, let me buy two more waters). The guy who I talked to about the rib? When he gets to the window, he said he wanted one of everything! Yeeeees. I have a hard time not ordering nachos anytime I come across them, so I got the nachos with brisket and the picky eater got the brisket sandwich with coleslaw for the side. When he took a bite, he said it was "damn good." Pretty good review from the picky eater. The sandwich also came with pickles, and pickled onions, carrots and a jalapeño, all of which were amazing. Perfectly crunchy and sour. The nachos were great, made even better by the pickled veggies (cause I stole those from him). And the bbq sauce with the brisket was just perfect. We stood in the line under the hot sun and it was tooooootally worth it. I overheard him tell one of the customers that he tries to get out to that spot at least twice a week.
