Rollie Jr. is still doing great work at affordable prices. Just had him take care of a check engine light on my 2004 Chevy Silverado pick up truck. He was also able to arrange to have the truck smog tested for me, which was a huge convenience. He recently moved to the building next door and can be reached at Veatch's Automotive located at 1830 Commercial Street, Escondido, CA 92029. Rollie Jr. Can be reached at (760) 746-7445 read more

I was first referred to Rollie's over 20 years ago when I was having some car trouble. Been going there ever since and I wouldn't take my vehicles anywhere else. Just had brakes and rotors replaced. The job was finished earlier than expected. The work they do has always been outstanding and they are so reasonable. You can always trust Rollie's to be straightforward, honest and helpful. They never try to sell you what you don't need. A family business that's been around for many, many years. Such wonderful people! Rollie Sr. may you Rest In Peace. read more

I got an oil change here as well as an alignment, while the alignment wasn't so great, my car is still shaking, I thought the service was quick and they were very informative. They suggested I got my tires changed and I did just that, brought my car in the next day and it was changed and done by the time I was out of work. It's very affordable and Mark is a really nice guy. read more

I've always taken my vehicles to Rollie's for repairs. I've also recommended them to friends. Unfortunately some of my friends were not too happy with their work and prices. They felt Mark was very rude to them. At first I couldn't quite understand why they were so unhappy, I never had any problems with Rollie's until one day, it happened. Things started going bad. I went in for an oil change. When I went back to pick up my vehicle I noticed the throttle cable was broken. I had no gas pedal. I quickly went and notified Mark. Mark immediately got defensive and "short" and accused me of doing it right then. The truth is, they broke it and he knew it. I could see it written all over his face. I didn't want to argue so I didn't have much of a choice but to leave it there. That throttle cable must have been gold plated because it cost me $265 to fix. Even after that incident, I still went back. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but soon enough I started noticing the shoddy workmanship. I had to take my vehicle back for the same repairs numerous times and of course they kept charging me for the same fix that should have been done right the first time. Mark once gave me the excuse that someone must have done mickey-mouse repairs to the rear end of my vehicle. I waited for him to finish his remarks. I then presented him the receipt showing that he had done the work. His eyes opened real wide in disbelief. It's a shame good things have to come to an end. I've always had high regards towards old man Rollie. He's a stand up kind of man. I don't think he's aware of what his son's do. From time to time I see him walking around the block and I feel like talking to him about it. Maybe he'll read this bad review instead and straighten things out in his shop. read more

I've been going there for almost 20 years. Rollie Sr and Mark have always done right by me and all of my friends that I've sent to them. Now they do imports. These guys are as honest as the day is long. read more

Mark & Rollie ROCK! Brought in my '02 Echo to be smogged to a family friend's shop to have the faulty O2 sensor replaced ... Big mistake! Turns out the computer needs time (miles) to learn. So ... I had to retest! But Mark & Rollie gave me a great price for two tests. Lets just say ... A local shop charges more for just one test! read more

My family and I have been going here for decades. They are very fair in pricing and are always realistic with you. They will always explain what they are doing, which is very helpful and appreciated. They are also very welcoming every time I go in. I highly recommend Rollie's. read more

Sadly they're out of business and signs have been removed from the building they were in. Had a lot of work for Junior as he's great and knows corvettes. read more

I've been using Rollie's Automotive for years and really appreciated their service and honesty. Unfortunately I found out today they have sold the building and closed the business. I hope this means Happy Retirement guys! read more

I have been taking my cars here for years now so this is long overdue. They have always been honest and are very reasonable. I last took my car there because it was running rough at times. I left it with them for the day they evaluated it and told me it was not likely worth fixing as it was a problem likely in the engine that would cost a lot just to really open it up and find out what was going on. The charged me less than half of what I was expecting to pay for the evaluation and break check. My car died a couple months later. Money saved! They have always been great. read more

Another useless auto repair shop. I made an appointment 6 days ago to bring my truck in. I had two guys take it down at 8:30am. Stopped in at 2:15 and they had not touched it. I got the old "sorry were busy" story. Well who the heck is not busy! I wasted time and $$ to take it there and pick it up. Again, they are nothing special, just another lousy auto repair shop. Today was my second (and not last) trip to Rollie's. I had seen them when I would drive to Costco via the back roads and since moving to Escondido I needed a good local shop. The single Yelp review was positive so I figured I'd give them a shot. My first trip was simple, I needed to be smogged. I told my neighbor who works in the industry if their price was fair and he said it was a great deal they gave me. One point for Rollie! Next, my check engine light was coming on intermittently and the SRS light was solid. I took it to Aamco because they will scan my computer for free but I had made an appointment for Rollie to fix it no matter what it was. The code Aamco game me was P0134 which is the o2 sensor. Well, the next day I dropped it off at Rollie's and they scanned both systems. The check engine light ended up being the Air Fuel Ratio Sensor which is very close to the o2 sensor and the SRS light was the seat belt tensioner. Rollie charged me $241 for the part, $80 to scan the system, and $70 in labor. To put this into perspective, Acura wanted $322 for the sensor alone and the best internet price I could find was $232 so I think I was treated fairly. As for the SRS light, Mark (Rollie's son) told me to contact the Acura dealer because seat belt defects are always covered for life. To my surprise, as I was driving home I noticed the SRS light was off! I guess in tinkering with the tensioner, they were able to unstick whatever was stuck. To sum it up, Rollie's Automotive is a family owned shop that's been in business for over 30 years. Rollie, Sr. is retired but still turns the wrench to keep from being bored. Rollie. Jr. is a mechanic full time and Mark took over his dad's job running the shop after turning the wrench for 25 years. This is a plus because typically your front office guy is not car-savvy, but Mark knows his stuff. These guys are awesome and anyone in North County should give them a shot. read more

My experience indicates this is a typical shop that maximizes that which is technically a justifiable amount of work...probably to maximize the bill. In my case, I had a check engine light on and my engine was running rough. I dropped the keys and asked to be called once the truck was diagnosed. I had ended up having to call them; they didn't call me. Also, they wanted $400 to replace a mass airflow sensor: 1.5 hours labor, and $230 for the part. I said I'd come pick up the truck and do it myself. Long story short, I had to pay $90 for a diagnosis that could have been reasonably done for free next door at AAMCO with AAMCO's free computer scan. AND, they wanted 1.5 hours labor. I replaced this part myself in literally 5 minutes! It is arguably easier to replace this part than a windshield wiper. Also, Mark was immediately defensive and "short" with me, sarcastically asking me if I "work for free" when I suggested that $90 was too steep for a diagnosis that the computer gives you in a 10 minutes. This is not the way to talk to customers. If they had only reasoned with me I would be a repeat customer. Instead they have their $90, a one-time customer, and a poor review. read more

My first experience with Rollie's was when I took my van to them for a second opinion and they correctly diagnosed the problem with my engine as a leaking intake manifold gasket versus a cracked head gasket that the other shop had diagnosed. They replaced the gasket and did the other minor repairs for $900 versus $5,000+ for a new engine that the other shop had recommended. My second was for a 30,000 service on my Mustang and my third was for a new distributor on my van. Each time the repair was done quickly and with excellent quality. These guys know their stuff and I have recommended them to several friends. read more

They do a great job! I have a Lexus, in the past I would take it to the dealer thinking this was my best option for getting the best care for my car. Wrong! I was referred to Rollie's by a friend who has been using them for years. I have been going to them for over a year now. It is never a problem getting in for an oil change, Mark responds "When do you want to bring it in". I like that! I have had some big services done there and by far it was a lot less expensive and I feel assured that the job was done right. I would recommended them to anyone. Thanks Rollie's for the peace of mind! read more

Pleasantly surprised by all the "No charges" on my invoice for work done. Electric window stuck in down position got me to Rollie's, so I added the small stuff. They even fixed the inside door opener w/o being asked at NO CHARGE! Repairing the vacuum line to the HVAC also improved overall engine performance. VERY SATISFIED!! read more

I'm really disappointed at the reviews I'm reading. I've known Rollie Krahling and his family since 1975. Way back....When his shop was on the corner of Valley Pkwy and Ash, next to the car wash, which is now Rally's, all you Crusing Valley Kids know what I'm talking about. After that Rollie moved to Paul's Automotive on Maple and Pennsylvania. I always made sure my family and friends knew where the best mechanic was..... "Rollie's Automotive" has moved to the Industrial Area! I talk to people in line at the grocery store. People talk about how they got ripped off here, I'll never take my car there. I tell them what I know, and what I know is, " take your car to Rollie's Automotive" Mark and Rolland will take care of you. They'll all take care of you! Rollie, rest in peace, has and always will be, your #1 Mechanic in North County. To the "negatives" one/all.... "Betta make sure you know whatcha talkin' bout before you post" Wurd! read more

Great customer service! We have been taking our cars to Rollie's for years and now my friends and family do too. They are so accommodating, honest and never charge for service not needed, and are significantly cheaper in cost than the dealer. They do servicing, repairs, oil changes and Smog checking. I don't need to take my car anywhere else. read more

I am three years late in writing this review. I have not been asked to do this but it has always been in my heart to write a review. I am not a person to usually write reviews, I have never written a review of another company in my life negative or good but now being in the automotive industry I now know how important it is and want to really recognize the folks at Rollie's from the front office to Rollie Sr. and especially Rollie Jr. Three years ago I had my 1987 Trans Am worked on and Rollie Jr. took my old 305 out and installed a Blue Print 383 Crate motor in the car. Rollie did the job in record time and it was the most professional and affordable job I have ever witnessed with work done to my car. The car became a full motor and subframe Overhaul and it looks as if the car should have come from the factory in that condition. Rollie Jr treated my car as his own and really put his heart and soul into the car and he was very proud of the work as I was as well. All the welds and fabrication Rollie had to do to the car was top notch and I can not stressed the importance of how well he treated me and the car. The car gets so much attention from car shows and events that it is un real and they at Rollie's deserves all the credit. My car is a shreader on the Auto Cross and car show events. The entire undercarriage, Torque Arm, Subframe connectors, Lowering springs and engine turned out AMAZING!! I got the chance to meet Rollie Sr. before his passing and I am proud to be a part of the Rollie Automotive family. Thank you as well to Mark for all you have done as well. Thank you Rollie Jr, for all the work, craftsmanship, and care and love you put into my car! Todd read more

New to Escondido, I sought a recommendation for a reliable auto repair business from a friend. He recommended Rollie's. Long story short: They exceeded my expectations. I asked for an oil change, an oil leak repair, and a diagnosis of a long term intermittent stall problem with my 94 Honda Accord. I was quoted "$450" for the parts and labor on the oil leak repair which included a new oil pan...mine had cracked. The intermittent stall problem was not included in the estimate. The mechanic ended up fixing my stall problem (which no other repair facility had in aprox 8 years, including a Honda dealer) by cleaning/scrubbing the throttle body which I was told was quite dirty. Not only did this fix the problem, I was not charged for the fix!!; it was done as a free "extra". And lastly the $450 estimate was off a bit...the total charge for the oil leak fix , parts and labor was $378. I will do all my future auto repairs here and recommend them highly to everyone I know!! read more

Bunch of crooks here. Few years ago I took my 2000 Acura TL here per the recommendation of my neighbors since I had just moved to the North County area & didn't know any established mechanics at the time. My cars Power Steering Pressure Hose was bad and was causing my car to smoke under the hood. So I got the part from the Acura dealer and they put the part in and charged over $200 for labor that only takes like 30-40 minutes tops and I even provided them with a quality part from the dealer. Jackass old man wouldn't warranty the work because "It's not one the parts through us that we get from Napa Auto Parts". That old piece of shit had the nerve to try and tell me that that the part from the local shop had better quality than the one I had brought over from the Acura dealer that was actually made and designed for my car and wasn't aftermarket. Cheapskate was a little butt hurt that I didn't go with his part so he could charge me up the ass for the part like he did with the labor. These guys are crooks and overcharge you for parts and labor, and quote you way more labor time than is actually needed. Not to mention they are assholes and don't know what customer service is. Go to Inter Auto repair a few lights down and talk to Javier. He'll take good care of you, do good quality work, and charge you with a reasonable price for parts and labor. read more

my friend took her car there to get worked on. she told me that the son of the owner was so rude that he yelled at her on the phone. totally uncalled for, for a "supposed automotive business". they didn't just worked on her to fix the problem they made it worse. she took car back again to have them repair they're mistake. they made some other excuse to say they fix the problem, they didn't. they're overly priced for work. it seems to me that they don't communicate there with each other. i highly not recommend going there unless you want expensive bill for something you can do at home. p.s. the son of owner hates talking to women. read more
