The place was super busy since it was lunchtime, and if you ever see cops eating at a restaurant, you know the food is good. I decided to go with the Chef special Roll which has shrimp tempura, Avocado, topped with spicy tuna (yums), eel sauce and spicy Mayo, shrimp tempura and if you dine there, they give you miso soup. The Roll was so good and fresh and had everything that I love in a sushi roll. Shrimp tempura is always bomb, and I swear I could love off tempura for the rest of my life. Service was okay considering we didn't really have a server and had to pick up our food when it was ready. Now let's talk about the sushi! A big plus was the size and value you got for these rolls. Really big servings and you can tell the quality of the salmon and freshness of the baked rolls was spot on. That means you can get a California roll and miso soup for like 4 bucks, it doesn't get much better than that They are always friendly and fast service. BUT the 4 stars represent bang for your buck quick sushi, free miso soup, late night operation hours, quick service, and location. There is so much vibrant nightlife in this area (Break Room 86, The Normandie Club, etc) it's super convenient to walk here afterwards for "fast food sushi." Most of the sushi is $5-$8 and served with a side of ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. There are specialty rolls priced up to $15 but in general your money goes a long way here. read more

The KITCHEN'S STRAINER IN THE HAND-WASHING SINK did it for me. Too many orders + insufficient staff = slow turnaround. I was standing in front of the counter hoping to order within the minute. The lady at the front, who doubles on the register and to-go preparer handled the orders of all the folks who had previously ordered. She went from the front counter to the back counter, to the rear kitchen, grabbing and replenishing everything that needed to go in the to-go orders. She completed about 4 to-go orders and also handed out five sit-in orders, all before she finally acknowledged me and asked me to wait a few more minutes. This is all after waiting what seemed such a long time. The restaurant needs to have one specific person to prep all to-go orders while having a second front-counter person taking orders. If the restaurateur wishes to avoid any further low reviews, he needs to hire more staff and maybe review the staff's responsibilities. Anyhow, I cared very little to wait for an order and left. I will not be coming back, specially since the hand-washing sink is used for cooking utensils. Really affordable rolls! I stopped by during the evening for to-go after reading some good reviews. I ordered the California Roll ($3), Chicken Katsu Maki ($3), Spicy Tuna Roll ($4), and Seaweed Salad ($3). The California roll came with complementary miso soup which was nice. All rolls were made fresh to order and had generous portions! My favorite was the Seaweed Salad. It was overall really refreshing to eat with the rolls. The lettuce was fresh and the light gingery tangy dressing was flavorful. I also really enjoyed the Chicken Katsu (the chicken was crispy and the eel sauce was a good compliment) and California Roll (a classic done well!). The portions are very generous for the price. Honestly I sometimes crave Roll Roll Roll. If you read my reviews I LOVE sushi/ sashimi and quite frankly this place is one of my guilty pleasures. Like most reviews mentioned it's not TOP QUALITY but it's decent and it's very inexpensive. The rolls are 8 pieces and 1 order can easily get you full. They don't skimp out on fish because it's priced very low and yes, the presentation might not be so pretty, I still think it's delicious! They did raise their price very slightly over the few years but still you probably can't get salmon sushi for under $5 around town. I've actually never ate inside the restaurant but every time I togoed or got it delivered I had no complaints. The cashiers seem to be very friendly every time I go. They give you miso soup with your order so it's kind of nice to have some soup to wash it down. I'd definitely recommend their simple rolls, philly roll and spicy salmon roll! I opted for the Chicken katsu bento box ($12) and a Rainbow roll ($7). A decent amount of food. The bento box includes: chicken katsu, rice, house salad, california roll (4 pieces), gyoza, and a veggie egg roll served with teriyaki sauce. Everything was tasty and well cooked. Due to the current state of affairs you can not enter without a mask, and they don't do curbside pick up, so you will either have to park and enter or get delivery (most apps pick up here). There is sufficient street parking and a lot in the back so parking isn't an issue. Highs hopes but alas I can't give more than 2 stars because: 1. Got stabbed by a salmon bone in my philly roll. That was traumatizing so I would not feed your children anything raw from here! 2. The sushi makers and one of the cashiers wore their masks wrong - theirs noses were uncovered so they were basically breathing into your sushi so let's hope they don't have corona! ( I already ordered and paid online so I just sucked it up and hoped for the best). The line is very confusing because everyone is standing around and there's no markings on the floor to tell you where the line is and to stand six feet apart. Same problem: order ahead, not able to get my order on time, told me to wait, no apology from any employees who were handling orders, telling me they have no control with attitude, giving me excuses that doesn't make any sense like "because of shift change, my order might be forgotten". Most sushi restaurants are closed during lunch time between 2-5 pm but this place is open all the time, decided to give it a try. I had 3 most popular rolls, they looked fine but they are so small, no wonder most of them were inexpensive. It's like 1 roll looks like a half size of regular sized sushi roll from other restaurants. So, I think it's expensive if you compare to other restaurant's sushi rolls because of its small portions.
