This place is fantastic, plain and simple. We got there right at open, so it wasn't busy, we were hungry so this was great news. Every roll was made fresh by the chef, you can literally watch him make it front of you and see how fresh the fish is! The ambiance of this place is also so cozy and cute, very homey and reminded me of my japanese grandma's descriptions of the home she grew up in. Sushi spots are a dozen a mile in Southern California, and most are decent, but every once in a while I find one that sits above the rest, and this place was it. We were given miso soups on the house with our rolls, which were also so delicious. And then when we were getting ready to go, the chef surprised us with some of his special seared eel nigiri! I am not a huge fan of eel, but this special was GOOD. Another stand out was the service! Our waiter was so kind, checking in now and then, and very nice overall. Maybe it's better if you dine in. I ordered a 911 roll on DoorDash. I live less than a mile away so it didn't have to travel far. The presentation of the roll was good but I thought it tasted extra fishy. For $21.00 and reading other reviews, I was expecting something more. My friends and I went here for lunch. Parking was so easy. They have a big free parking lot, which is rare in ktown. Not sure if it's free certain hours only. We went on a Saturday. We got 3 chirashi bowls. The fish is so fresh and melted in my mouth. The chef and waiter are so kind. They gave us free sushi to try and it was so yummy. They also overheard that it was my bday and gave free mochi ice cream to us 3. Everything looked good, so finally settled on 2 rolls and a 2 pc halibut sushi. The rolls were perfect .. had just enough rice and the flavor was on point. They deserve to have 10 stars review I wasn't planning to find my new favorite sushi spot last night... but turns out sometimes the best stuff happens by accident. Our regular sushi place canceled our order out of nowhere. I called to check, and they said they were already closed, even though it was only 8:45 and their hours said 10 PM. So I started looking around Koreatown for something else. That's how we found Sushi Ye. We checked the menu with my wife, and saw many of baked roll options, which was perfect because my wife doesn't eat raw fish. We ordered five baked roll sets for delivery, and honestly, we were shocked by how good they were. Huge portions, super fresh, and really well made. We couldn't even finish everything in one go. I'm literally writing this while eating the leftovers the next day, and they're still really delicious. That never happens. Everything came in nice cardboard boxes, not the usual plastic containers. The rice was well made, the wasabi was great, and the prices were better than the place we used to order from. The next day we stopped by in person to get some rolls for my wife's parents, they live five minutes away, and also to thank the staff. They were so kind and even gave us two pieces of yellowtail sushi on the house. That was a really thoughtful surprise and the fish was amazing. I love a good lowkey, hole in the wall spot because they usually have the BEST service and attention to detail. This place is exactly that. It's a quaint, cute wooden oasis that has the freshest fish and the best customer service. We ordered the $80 chef's choice and salmon truffle crab appetizer and every bite was HEAVEN. The fish cuts were HUGE and each fish melted in our mouth like butter. Our server was a delight and he spread out our chef choice plates and kept watch so he could bring out the next course at the perfect time. He gave us miso soup & delicious grilled red snapper collar on the house! It was so nice of him. The chef's choice combo had so much food we were sooo full at the end! We noticed that this place doesn't over sauce their fish and it lets the fish quality speak for itself. The one server could easily handle this being full but it was not tonight. They went above and beyond on food and service and I think you should come here for the great cuts of nigiri especially if you are into high quality fish and preparation. Unfortunately, not a fan. Stopped by for lunch with my Mom on a weekend, and we were the only ones dining the whole time. Maybe this place is busier for dinner? Chirashi: I often order chirashi for lunch, and I have never had rice doused in sesame oil. For chirashi or sushi rice, it is usually vinegary and just a tinge of sweet and salty. Even I know that. The rice here was not only doused in sesame oil and salt, it had fruitkake all over it. You could not taste any of the subtle flavors of the fish overlying the rice. It was baffling. Sushi deluxe: My Mom's sushi deluxe was ok. My mom wasn't too impressed with the fish or the rice. I will say that the service was very nice and friendly. My Mom and I wanted to really like this place, but I don't think we will be back. Not sure if it is better during dinner time. read more
