I bought a 45 min ride for my husband's birthday. We were lucky enough to get James as our pilot. We left out of John Wayne and had an amazing time seeing all our favorite parts of South Orange County. I've wanted to learn how to fly helicopters since I was a little kid (bucket list status) and I couldn't have asked for a more amazing flight school to learn from! My discovery flight was amazing! If you're even a little interested in flying, book a discovery flight and they let you fly on your very first day - talk about catching the bug! From then on, the whole team makes the learning process fun and clear. I never feel pressured by the process, they give positive feedback and correction, its a great learning environment and a great team! Don't be surprised when you don't have your license in the bare minimum 40 hours required by the FAA -- Rogue believes in training SAFE pilots more than getting the job done fast.... they will have you flying as many hours as it take you at your pace to be trained into a SAFE and well rounded pilot. I recommend planning for closer to 60+ hours. James the Chief pilot is also a Robinson Safety course Instructor, so you're truly getting Robinson training from the pros here built into their entire curriculum! It makes me feel super good knowing the level of safety built into my training. Now for the fun part! Most flight schools just drag students through a routine and pattern work.... but yet here at Rogue I've gotten to fly up to Brackett for brunch, out to Chino and all along the coastline - its a blast and they are always up for making training fun! After all that's why flying is so rad, right?! Speaking of safety, I've been really impressed by the school's impeccable maintenance of their aircraft too - one little thing feels off with a ship and they've got a mechanic on it right away! And on top of all that, they are based right at John Wayne Airport so getting the Class C airspace training here in Southern California is getting me ready to fly just about anywhere. I couldn't be more happy with my experience and I'm so close to getting my Private Heli License - all Rogue trained! After that I'm moving on to my commercial! Thanks guys! read more

First Class all the way!! Bought my hubby a helicopter flight tour of Newport and Huntington Beach coast line with Rogue Aviation for Christmas. We've never done this before so I was a little nervous. Asked for recommendations from social media and after some research and great reviews I decided to go with Rogue Aviation. The owner James communicates well and was very accommodating with our flight date. Our experience was amazing from the minute we pulled into the valet, (included with flight), then we were warmly welcomed by the reception staff offering a nice place to wait with drinks and snacks. Our flight was scheduled for 3:30pm and our pilot Jake was right on time to escort us to the helicopter, (super fun to see John Wayne Airport from a completely different perspective while Jake drove us to helicopter). When we arrived at helicopter, Jake reviewed safety procedures and how to work seat belts, door locks and how to use headphones so we could communicate during our flight. We had no idea what to expect but Jake set our minds at ease and let us know in advance what we would hear and feel in flight. Amazing experience all around and we highly recommend Rogue Aviation!! We had John Alvarado as our pilot and flew over Huntington Beach, Newport, and Irvine in the R44 on Sunday morning. It was a great experience, and my date was super surprised and impressed. WARNING! Do not take your flight lessons here!!! The entire team is at the beginning super nice and suck you in the program. With the time you can see that you are getting more and more slowed down with no reason to get more time and money out of you. If you approach the Owner James, he is getting super fast defensive and talks unprofessional down to you. There is only one way and it is his way. He can't explain why things are how they are. His statement is "Because I say so" He always talks bad about other helicopter companies how bad they would be, but at the end start raising his voice against customers. If he asks for feedback, I do recommend to don't answer. He can't take it and will use it at a later point against you. "Why are you telling me how to run my program" I went through the program to get the private pilot license. During and after, he gave me so many restrictions and limitations to continue flying. Again he could not say any reason. Super frustrating and disappointing overall. Go somewhere where they appreciate you as a customer and want to fly with them. John my CFI is amazing. This was the best money I think I have ever spent. I did a discovery flight with James and he was very knowledgeable and allowed me to look around the helicopter to get a better understanding of how the controls affected each part of the aircraft. Once we were up in the air he started teaching me each of the controls and allowed me to get a feel for each one before taking control of the whole aircraft. After about 30-45 min we headed back to John Wayne to go hover on the practice pad. This is where things got interesting. Again we went through the steps of having me try one control at a time ending with me trying to hover with all the controls.
