When I told Jackie my goal was to fly 4-5 days a week so I could earn my private pilot certificate as efficiently as possible, she made it happen. She keeps me on schedule, sends reminders, and has gone out of her way to reserve the Cessna 172 G1000 aircraft for my training whenever possible. That dedication has made a tremendous difference in my progress. I also want to recognize Denise in the front office. She is the backbone of the operation, always friendly, professional, organized, and helpful. We went here for my brother's 16th celebration. We had an amazing time. His instructor was Blake Phillips and we ended up on the Cessna 172S. The process of ordering the one hour demo package was very easy and straightforward. The website was super easy to navigate, and the staff was always super friendly on the phone. We were asked to arrive 15 minutes early to complete complete paperwork and that process went very smoothly. The only issue that we had was parking but since we got there early, we still got there on time. Blake was an amazing instructor and explained everything very thoroughly as well as interactively. I appreciated that he asked my brother about his interest in plains because he was able to incorporate specific topics that chained to my brother's interest in flight school. He was able to answer all of our questions and never felt like he was rushing. The flight itself was great. Blake made it clear that my brother would be able to actually fly and he would step in as needed. We had a one hour flight in Long Beach, where he explained air, flow manipulation, and aerodynamic very well to an understandable level. He was able to effectively communicate all of the factors that make a plane fly without being overwhelming. The aircraft was well kept, clean, and the views were great. We both throughly felt safe the whole duration of the flight, even with the stronger winds. Once we got back, he provided us resources for my brother in case he wanted to pursue flight school, as well as provided us with the foot footage taken during the flight. Took our little ones to their 1hour demo flight. Scheduling was a breeze, our flight instructor made sure the weather was good before securing an appointment, and if any changes to the weather, rescheduling was easy too. We went around the long beach area, over the water and were able to see the pier, unfortunately we were not able to spot any whale or dolphins but it was fun nonetheless. Our 4 year old had fun. Our 1 year old not too much, she didn't wanna keep her headset one and was fuzzy most of the flight, our instructor was very understanding though We got a SD card of our flight to keep as an remembrance which was a plus. Love this flight school so much! Took my first demo flight with Jackson commins in mid February and immediately fell in love with flying and signed up that day to get my ppl at pacific air. I was pretty conflicted when looking for a flight school and I planned to take a few demo flights until I found the right school but after my first demo flight at pacific air I didn't feel like I had to look any farther. The atmosphere here is great and you can tell everyone there has a love and passion to fly! Jackson Commins is a great teacher, he gets all the information across and doesn't make it feel overwhelming! Never flew before and never been in a small aircraft before. My instructor was Xavier. Young chap who knew his stuff! Met him in the offi ce, signed a waiver. I got to hear along the entire communication between us and ATC. He handled the take off and then at 500+ feet altitude gently handed me the controls. Absolutely everything was clear from then on. He allowed me to experience several maneuvers, and guided me into looking at the instrument panel. I got to take any route I wanted, asked a lot of questions, and just had a chill time up in the air! I cant stress how much calm and confidence the young man exuded. Huge respect. I got to approach landing and Xavier took the last 100 feet to land. I did a demo flight here and had so much fun. What a great experience! I bought the one-hour demo flight (upgraded to the slightly bigger Cessna, can't remember the model#) for my wife as a gift. She had expressed an interest in flying and this could not have been a better introduction. The instructor was Xavier; he was awesome. He checked in with us by text the evening before just to confirm arrangements for today, which was a nice touch. Xavier was friendly, incredibly thorough and patient. He immediately put us both at ease with his personable manner. His love of aviation was apparent and at no point did it seem like it was a chore for him to be there with us on a Saturday morning. The demo flight itself is exactly as advertised. Xavier conducted a rigorous pre-flight check of the aircraft, talking my wife through the process - then we were in our seats and preparing for take-off. My wife was given the opportunity to participate - as advertised on the website. One thing I would suggest for anyone who is thinking of doing this is that if you really want to maximize the experience, once you know which plane you will be going up in (the office will tell you) it might be helpful to grab a copy of a reputable flight simulator program and familiarize yourself with the basic controls. This was my first time even attempting a private lesson type scenario. Zero previous knowledge on flying a plane, just general aviation. If this is how flight instruction is supposed to be, I don't think I am interested in flying anymore. As a gift, I was excited to try this out, and wanted to pursue flying further. When my instructor contacted me, he sounded uninterested, ambivalent and even annoyed to have to take me up. Upon arriving, it was more of the same. He barely spoke. He was not friendly. He did nothing to introduce me to flying. There was no specific instruction on anything related to the controls. He spoke so fast during the pre-flight check that it was clear he didn't want to be there, nor explain it to me. He seemed like a he was fresh out of high school. Any questions I had were answered in a curt, "you should already know this" type of manner, which still provided no additional clarification. He inspired no confidence, and conveyed no educational material. Not even his experience with aviation. Even his instructions on the controls seemed outright dangerous due to his soft spoken, non specific, dismissive instruction style. I did not feel safe with this kid whatsoever, despite how good a pilot he may be otherwise... You really had to be there to see how detached he was. I felt that this was a tourist operation, based on my instructor. Not a professionally run flight school. I won't go back to this place to continue my pilot's training, this was simply too backyard flight school for me. read more
