ATP is absolutely the worst flight training facility at Long Beach Airport. Go elsewhere.

Very disorganized operation. And you could literally buy one of their planes for 30k and save yourself 50k in costs.

An accident waiting to happen. These student pilots ignore local "fly friendly" rules and circle local neighborhoods at low altitudes in their loud, janky planes day and night. A quick search reveals this flight "school" is a shoddy operation designed to separate student pilots from their money. please have your pilots respect the LBC noise ordinance. Surrounding neighborhoods are hearing planes circling (training operations) close to midnight which is waaaay past what the ordinance calls for, training operations need to end by 7pm during weekdays and 3:30pm on weekends. This has gotten way worse in the last couple of years with international students so please keep them informed of the noise ordinance in our area and please enforce it because we need to sleep and have some peace after hearing training operations all day read more

So I was going to start going to the Long Beach ATP. But before I signed any contracts I wanted to meet the instructors and get a feel for the classrooms. (Which don't exist it seems.) When I first got there, no one greeted me no one was at the reception desk, they were in a cube office chatting. When I walked in I just stood there by the desk waiting to talk to them. They saw me walk in but just kept standing and talking in the office. I know it wasn't about schooling or flight related, because they were being overly loud and talking about what their plans were for the weekend, it was Wednesday when I went in. I stood there for 2 minutes and when I came to the conclusion they weren't going to interact with me I left. Now had they been busy with students or something I would've totally understood, but no they were just chatting and laughing. But now reading some of these reviews I now know its because they get paid no matter what, its not on how many students they have. The only reason I was looking into ATP was the financial loan and the connections I could make. Its a very unwelcoming environment so I suggest you go to a flight school where you feel comfortable. Or better yet join the military and get paid to learn to fly. That's what I should've done when I got out of the service and used my GI Bill for flight school. Don't waste your time and money here. They do not practice what they preach in terms of safety. PIC stands for Pilot in command, and when that pilot says not fly, you tell me why you would force them into it. Especially on a day of evaluation. I'm glad I left this program, get your training done right at a local school. read more

This school does not even deserve 1 star. They are unorganized, their scheduling and commitment to keeping a schedule is horrific, and their review process is unjustifiable. They are one of the most expensive schools, are quick to have you take a loan out and then drop you. They absolutely do not live up to the standards they supposedly claim they have and have no personal stake or care for their students. BTW - I am not a student at this school, I am in the Higher Education Field and know of several students that were dismissed from the program and not for reasons that warranted their removal. I am appalled by their lack of care and concern for their students after they lure them into the program with promises they do not keep. The students have been left with a very large debt they have taken on and no pilot license. Shameful!!! You would never pass an accreditation board if you were an accredited institution. read more

Waste of time and money. Andrew who is in charge of certain students, is the epitome of the word unprofessional. His lack of willingness to help students pass is enough to give the school a 0% rating. Unwilling to understand issues some students have within the Flight school. Would not recommend to anyone wanting to become a pilot. Wouldn't even allow a fellow student to continue within the course after six months of training. In fact, he wasn't even allowed to take the instrument portion of the test because they felt he wasn't ready. Essentially he was failed an opportunity because of their "opinion" of him. Already not first one giving 1 star review 1/3 Don't be close to this guys sounds scam I called them multi time 1st time they told me program cost 90k and sec time they said 60k and 3rd time he said 75k 2/3 they trying to make you pay for all program either cash or loan you can't go as you need and they don't offer part time program they just offer accelerated program 3/3 after you pay you done they are not nice anymore you will get the worse instructor worse treating and they don't care if you fail your exams because they get payed already and many people failed they are smart but the school not doing they're job A way cheaper and more professional if you go to other schools or clubs work perfect for me thank God I got a pilot show me the best way and how to stay from scams ! I'll start by saying ATP has a fantastic program, and it somewhat shocks me to see a lot of negative reviews here. Over the past year, I've attended ATP in Long Beach and it's been a great experience. The program is extremely developed and it keeps you on your toes. The instructors and staff are fantastic. Every step of the way you're given everything you need to be successful; 1 on 1 instruction, group instruction, modules, sim and flight time, external resources, etc. I cannot speak for every location, but I trained in Long Beach and spent time at a few other training centers and have always had good experiences. Now, that being said, the program is very challenging. ATP is fast and it's going to be difficult. It required A LOT of studying every day and you need to be good at self-motivation. If that sounds like your alley, you'll do great at ATP and be happy you chose it, it's a great place to be. However, there are many students you'll encounter that are not a great fit for this type of program. Students that feel entitled to earning their licenses simply because they paid to be there. Others who go out every weekend and don't spend the time studying, or who complain about the pace of the program being too fast and not having enough free time, (knowing very well this is what they signed up for and originally wanted). I'd also like to note that a majority of the negative reviews on here are many years ago or from others that didn't go through the program and are saying they had a poor interaction when trying to sign up or are unhappy with the price. At the end of the day, flight training is expensive. If you can accept that it's going to be a costly program and that you're going to have to spend most of your free time for 9 months studying and flying, you will do great! Passing 7 check rides in 9 months is super fast, and that's the reason many choose ATP. They have a great program, and they will get you through it as long as you put in the work. Lastly, I was not asked to write this review. I'm not being paid or asked or anything like that. I just recently finished the program and noticed some poor reviews on Yelp, and wanted to share my two cents. I know back when I wanted to go to ATP, seeing this page might have discouraged me. In reality, there are thousands and thousands of students who attend or have attended ATP. Go to a training center and schedule an intro-flight if you're interested, go talk to current students and see if they like it. You'll get a much more accurate picture than 8 reviews on yelp. This flight school gives you the tools and resources to complete all necessary certifications to further your career goal in aviation. Although it is fairly expensive and requires a great deal of commitment and flexibility, I believe there is no better option out there. The instructors at this location are great pilots and even better people that understand what it takes to get where you are going. My experience was overall a good one as I set out and accomplished everything I needed to. The 9 month- "zero to CFI" timeline is a bit improbable given the scheduling delays one may encounter due to weather, plane maintenance, and examiner scheduling, so make yourself available for more than the originally scheduled time. Completed all of my certs here from zero time. If you put in the hard work and effort, this school and company will meet you halfway. Do not expect for someone to hold your hands and walk you through. I have seen so many people succeed in this program and I've also seen a good number failing out. Hello all, Let me make it clear. I am not a student at this flight school but I WANTED to attend this school so badly. However, the mentors especially Pilot Adam (mentor) made it very clear this is not the flight school I want to attend. I signed up for ATP message board to discuss tuition. Tuition is EXTREMELY expensive and very difficult to obtain especially for those of color. The students of the school were very helpful, positive and uplifting when the MENTORS (the people that the school chooses to guide the students) became very snide, defensive, unprofessional and unhelpful. I would love for you all to read the string however one of the administrators didn't want anyone to see this string and closed it because of the topic (how it is a wealthy white male dominate industry and due to the cost of tuition it is discouraging for others) that should be discussed and help find a solution to the problem, they deem it best to close the string so no one could read it further. If I am going to spend $84,000 for flight training I need mentors and a school that is sensitive to my problem and help me come up with a solution instead of sticking their head in the sand. read more

This school is a joke. Super expensive, they don't schedule things accurately and they lie.

I trained at ATP and the biggest complaint I had was no consistency in instructors, no continuity what so ever. This made learning impossible. Just imagine having five different instructors by the time you get your multi. One instructor leaves out important details, the other instructor does not know what the last instructor covered, and so on. I will not recommend ATP to anyone. The owner is arrogant and all they want is your money. By the way, I finished my ratings but was very disappointed in the inconsistency due to ever changing instructors, this is a good way to get a pilot in trouble up in the blue sky. How can they expect a student to grasp concepts with instructors abandoning the student (five times for me) at different learning modules? read more

Thanks to ATP flight school my son made his dream come true. Now he is a flying instructor at ATP. Obviously you have to earned it and must do lots of homework. At the end it's worth it. Great management at Long Beach ATP. If you want a career as an airline pilot this is the fastest and true way to become an airline pilot. As a parent I'm very proud of the accomplishments of my son and ATP was the right decision. Might seem a little expensive but compare prices and ATP is very competitive at the end of the completed course . Don't waste your money and time taking lessons here and there. Unless you take it as a hobby but for the real future pilots ATP is the best choice. read more

My son had the most unpleasant experience with ATP Flight School. They simply do not live up to their promises and the school resembles a bait and switch tactic. At ATP, you have to pay in full prior to reaching certain parts of your training. So, by the time you get to the Flight Instructor School in Jacksonville, you must have all your billing taken care of. Sounds simple enough, but wait...read on. ATP is somewhat accommodating (with a bit of prodding) during the initial training events. However, once you reach CFI school, suddenly their willingness of help is now gone. Zip, nada, zilch, nothing, no help. You see they only pass around 30% of the students that participate in the program which mean they fail at least 70% of the students. ATP promises you a job as a flight instructor once you complete the program. Just calculating the numbers alone, you can see that this promise is impossible for them to honor. They can't promise all of the flight instructors a job, there simply aren't that many positions. If you hiccup just once, you are told "you better improve soon, or you are gone". So, you are given two attempts to live up to their impossible criteria. After the second attempted failure, you are sent home. Nooooo... let's teach you what you need to know. Nooooo... we will help you through this. No, they simply send you packing. And, of course, they don't give any of your money back. Small claims court? Maybe, but a hassle. The 100 day program is simply unattainable. The 100 day program really means it is at least a 200 day program. You see they simply are unorganized and they don't plan ahead whatsoever. A quick example: You have your instrument written tests done, you have been signed off by your instructor, you feel ready, you have studied hard, you have practiced hard. Now you need an examiner. In FXE, they only have two examiners that cost around $500-$800 cash only. One examiner is only available certain days. The other only does certain ratings. So, you may have to wait two weeks before seeing the examiner. They should plan ahead, you might say. Well, "plan ahead" and ATP cannot be used in the same sentence. They simply wing it. So, my son is devastated and now on the road trying to find a flight school to finish up his flight instructor ratings. I would not recommend ATP Flight School. Where to start, well I decided to choose ATP flight school because of it's quick fast approach to becoming a pilot.. Within my journey of registering and signing up for the school I decided I wanted to start as soon as I could. So we sent numerous emails and made multiple phone calls back and forth and discovered the next class started in about 2 weeks. As I'm getting more and more excited for the school I felt as if I was getting less and less information on what I needed to do. Every time I called I got asked a bunch of the same questions over and over again when all I wanted was to talk to the person I had been dealing with the whole time. They the let me know that to hold my spot in the program I needed to send them $1000. So I did with no hesitation what so ever. A couple days later I come to find out that the date that I was told I was starting was not in fact the real start date that date was a couple weeks later. So now I'm being told all kinds of different things and I'm not sure exactly what is true and what is not. They seemed very unorganized. So with a coupe weeks to wait I desired to fly home and see my family wrote I started the school. When I got home I continued to work on everything I needed to work on and then found out about needing a flight physical witch is a must but I had no clue of this nor had I ever been told. So I go to get my physical and come to find out I would not be able to attended the flight school at this time due to a medication I was taking. So I called up the school and told them all of what I had learned and they were very kind to inform me that I would not be able to revive a refund of my deposit because in the .05 font at the bottom of the very first email I ever revived they said it was a non refundable deposit. I was never informed of this personally before or when making the payment. I attended the Long Beach location. Overall, I achieved my goals very quickly, as promised by the school. The curriculum was clear and thought out, It made following along very easy. The website was easy to follow and easy to track your progress. I enjoyed the entire staff at the Long Beach school who all have the same goal in mind. To be professional pilots and learning along the way. The challenge is that there are some young individuals that are CFIs and they obviously don't have a lot of experience in instructing other adults. That is not their fault as they are trying to complete their hours for the airlines. I think more training should be spent in this area. There are some company policies and SOP's that do you delay your flight time due to weather and wind. However, I can understand the need for these policies as a whole as there's a wide variety of students flying in the program. If you're willing to work hard and study, ATP will help you reach your goals very quickly. Stay on top of your progress and ask for help ATP will get you there. But, you have to put the work in. Do not spend your hard earned thousands of dollars at this school. I promise you there is way better flight school options out there for you. First off this school costs around $65,000 - $70,000. ATP advertises like crazy. ATP does not promise what they advertise. In my experience my first 3 1/2 months were ok. I became a pilot and started flying all the time. Then all of a sudden I was switched instructors about 5 or 6 times. I was learning 6 different ways to do the same thing. So just when I got the hang of for example a GPS approach from one instructor I was switched to the next instructor. Just for no reason at all. So when I flew with the next instructor I was yelled at for not doing the GPS approach properly. Literally yelled at! Basically my whole training I learned nothing. So my first complaint with this school is the instructors and staff don't really care about your training. They will switch instructors on you all the time so you never actually learn something. And the instructors are about 99% of the time students that just graduated from the school. For example you may get an instructor that just graduated a week ago and is teaching you how to fly an airplane. You may get a 19 year old kid that just graduated and ATP pushed them into teaching. There kids they just got of school! They have no real life flight experience and have almost the same amount of flight hours as you do. What I'm trying to say is these young greenhorn instructors don't really care about teaching, and the fundamentals of teaching a student. A student learns in many different ways. What works for one may not work for the other. These instructors at ATP are so young and fresh out of school that they really have no idea how to teach a student. Seriously I'm not lieing when I say this. These instructors went to school for 6 months to learn how to fly and teach a student. 6 months! Your telling me you would trust your life with a person who has only been flying for 6 months? These instructors at ATP are only here to gain hours and move on to an airline. They don't care about your training. And the company of ATP itself just wants your money. ATP charges around $70,000 you pay them up front with checks of $10,000 or $13,000. So you never know what your going get. They don't tell you what anything costs like flights, tests, instructor training. They never give you an itemized statement of what exactly your money is paying for. Also in their advertising they fail to mention that if you don't catch on right away or fail a test you have to pay more out of your pocket. And it's not just a few dollars its thousands of dollars extra. Seriously ATP just wants your money while they give you mediocre training for thousands of $'s! Also ATP has the right to kick any student out of school for not performing to their standards, and even if you are giving it 100%. They still can kick you out of school. And guess what? If you do happen to get let go for whatever the reason is. You are not entitled to a refund! ATP will keep your money and not refund you. Even if you have a large chunk of money there that hasn't been used for flights, fuel, etc. ATP literally says your not entitled to a refund. What?!? It's your money! So after giving ATP a check for $70, 000 you should just kiss that money goodbye. Most of all ATP and their advertising is not what it seems. They make it look great on paper and say you will be a commercial pilot in 6 months but they fail to mention about their training styles and about the instructors they hire. Which are only there to get flight hours and not train students. If you pay $70,000 you expect the best training money can buy. Trust me you don't get that. It's mediocre flight training for a whole lot of money. Please listen to me and don't waiste your time and money here. It's fancy advertising that is drawing you in to think ATP is the best school out there. They are definitely not the best school out there for you. Please don't end up making a mistake and going to ATP. You will be sorry. And if you do end up going there. Good luck! You too will also end up being a student that got 6 months of training to fly airplanes. After 6 months tell me what you've learned? An airline does not want a pilot with 6 months of flight training under their belt. It's going to take you much longer to gain that knowledge that ATP fails to provide. Don't make the mistake and fall into their false, fancy advertising. I am a commercial pilot of a little over a year now. My advice is save your thousands of dollars and find a flight school at your local airport. I promise you will gain so much more knowledge from it. You will definitely save a ton of money buy going somewhere else! And most of all the instructors at these smaller flight schools are retired airline pilots or instructors that have been teaching for years who have real life flight experience.
