I have not trained through this flight school, so I cannot comment on its overall training program. However, I have trained extensively with one of its instructors, Lucas, outside of the school as he has a side gig of nearly killing his students with his own private instruction. My primary concern is cockpit communication. In my experience, I found the instructor's spoken English difficult to understand, and communication between us was often challenging. While that may not be an issue for every student, I believe it became a significant safety concern during a takeoff incident. During the event, the aircraft failed to climb as expected, drifted substantially off the runway centerline, and I became concerned about maintaining control of the aircraft. The stall warning was sounding, density altitude was elevated, and I believed the situation required immediate intervention. I repeatedly told the instructor to "take the controls." instead of immediately assuming control of the aircraft, his attention was focused on adjusting the flap settings. This instructor knew about my thousands of hours of weight shift flying history and I had informed in great detail that I could be prone to dangerous mistakes due to faulty muscle memory that could surface under a stressful urgent situation.... Many controls are opposite fixed wing. The experience left me with serious concerns about cockpit communication and decision-making during time-critical situations. Aviation training depends on rapid, clear communication and immediate coordination between student and instructor when safety is involved. Based on my experience, I would not personally choose to train with this instructor again. I understand that this instructor theoretically was giving me a chance to correct the dangerous situation on my own before he took the controls, but I've never heard of an instructor refusing to take the controls when the student essentially insists I could've been having a medical emergency for all he knew. This is why it is insane for an instructor not to immediately resume control when the student urgently states take the controls you have the controls to an instructor This review reflects my personal experience and opinions regarding this instructor and is not intended as a statement about the flight school's other instructors or overall operation. But my understanding is, he's worked there for many years.... So I think they must have very low standards if they would employ a dangerous instructor like this. read more

Excellent experience! Having flown at several flight schools and flying clubs while earning my Private Pilot license, I've learned [the hard way] what to watch out for (good and bad), and I had a good vibe about Beach Cities from the first time I walked into their office, to work on my multi-engine add-on pilot rating. Everyone I've interacted with there is friendly and welcoming and has been patient with my asking a million questions, as I tend to do! Many of their students have gone on to fly for the airlines, and most of BCAA's instructors were students at the school that were hand-picked to teach for them. Plenty of flight schools have big shiny signs and posh offices and are eager to get you to lock in and put down a ton of money buying overpriced block time, then they show no interest in the student's success, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that Beach Cities runs a good fleet of well-maintained aircraft that they rent out by the hour, that could probably use a little paint work here or there, but all have recently-renovated engines and updated avionics, from what I've seen, and a very experienced staff that always makes me feel like they genuinely care about safety, professionalism, and about helping their students meet their goals. As someone who deeply values aviation safety, transparency, and professionalism, I feel compelled to share my experience with Beach Cities Aviation Academy to help prospective students make informed decisions. Unfortunately, my time at this flight school was marked by serious concerns that reflect systemic issues in both safety and management. Several aircraft in their fleet appeared to be poorly maintained, with recurring maintenance issues either overlooked or minimally addressed. This raises significant safety red flags, particularly for student pilots who rely on their training environment to be secure and FAA-compliant. Equally troubling was the administrative side of the school. Communication was disorganized, and there was a clear lack of accountability in scheduling, and progress tracking. Students--including myself--felt misled about the timelines, and available resources. Promises made during enrollment were not honored, and attempts to resolve issues were often met with indifference or avoidance. After being with the school for 7 months and changing couple of instructors, Jennifer the dispatcher called me behalf of the owner of the school and notified me that the school would no longer be accommodating me and my education, due to me communicating to the owner about issues I have been experiencing with my time at the school. She was very dismissive and notified me that when the school let me switch instructors, it was a "specialty request" and that they don't allow that on regular basis. As a paying student I am allowed to request for a new instructor as I wish if the training with a particular instructor is not working out. What's most disappointing is that this could have been a positive learning experience if the leadership prioritized student success and aircraft safety over short-term profits. Instead, it seems the school operates more as a business interested in collecting tuition than a training institution committed to developing competent and safe pilots. After visiting my new school and understanding how planes are actually supposed be maintained properly, I realized Beach Cities Aviation Academy is maintenance standards were alarmingly inconsistent. Aircraft were frequently reported with mechanical issues, yet some were returned to service with minimal inspection and minimal care. Example GPS in most of the plane have and has been inoperative for 7 months now. I strongly urge prospective students to thoroughly research any flight school before committing financially and logistically. Talk to current and former students, inspect the aircraft, and ask direct questions about maintenance protocols and instructor availability. Your safety and success are too important to leave in the hands of a program that does not prioritize either. read more

Great price for newer aircrafts than other places and various kinds! also I did my multi engine training here and it was totally worth it. price, quality, education and great people. this school is running and managing by highly experienced airline pilots. I just recently discovered Beach Cities. I haven't spent a lot of time here, however so far it is appears to be a top notch place to rent an aircraft. They have a variety of airplanes, the ability to book online and a handful of CFIs. From my initial impressions I felt comfortable and welcome immediately upon entering the flight school. I haven't noticed any mx issues and CFIs seem knowledgeable. That said, as with most flight schools, not all CFIs are to the same standard and I felt there was a CFI here who wasn't as safety conscious as I would like him to be. If you do sign up to rent airplanes from here, make sure you read and understand the contract as it does have some interesting mx clauses that I haven't noticed at other flight schools. read more

Back in 2012, I went to this flight school to get my multi engine add on and at first I was treated well. I had chosen them because they seemed to be one of the best schools money could offer. I came all the way from Northern Nevada two weekends in a row to train and to get ready for the check ride. After spending almost $4,000 , I went in to the check ride and the examiner failed me on my oral. I was not tested the way I was taught and the worse complaint I have is that we kept getting interrupted by others during the exam. After contacting the school later several times to ask if I can train and retake the check ride, I was ignored and my calls was never returned, even though I was very respectful and polite to them. All I asked for was to know what the check ride fee would be. I have my Multi now through someone else and I do not recommend this place. read more

I have spent well over 10,000 Dollars here and lately the instructor Chris Vaca was very rude to send me to another school just because i would not want to fly with another instructor. Fantastic! A thought in the bucket list, 35 years removed from flying. All health issues resolved for now, except for weight. I'll check with my neighborhood airport flight operation. While inquiring for information, a pleasant young man introduced himself , Kevin. A month later, we embarked on my reintroduction to flying. I am 75 years young and approximately 1000 hours experience in a Cessna 182. That was 35 years ago( repeating ).Things have changed signicantly from those days, especially aging.the great part remaining, the principle of flight and memory!
