He helped me get through recovering from Prostrate cancer and the after effects (which by the way we're intense over a 5-6 year period) like my skin sensitivity being so acute after radiation treatments that my own (very salty) sweat caused my skin to sting from head to toe. I went so far as to use Dawn dish soap to shower with and it worked, amazingly...! My feet hurting, i bought shoes that were so wide, the Navy almost recruited me back in..! A regiment to reduce swelling helped, but i kinda cheated by going through Allfamilypharmacy.com plus a few other items... BUT that was me, not him. I went to CHOMP to see him for my last follow up and some extremely curt and rude woman claiming to be taking over for Mr. Tamler came in and asked me a few questions then ran me out of the room like i was interfering with her day or something.. My Mom stumbled out of a van and broke her wrist a couple of weeks ago, It was fortunately a pretty clean break, but she is in her 80s. I went with her on a follow-up appointment where she had her first cast removed, the break Flouroscoped (similar to XRays) and a new cast put on. Dr. Satow did all of this himself, with a great gentle manner and attentive care, while talking to me about the World Cup results at the same time. He put on a lighter cast and she will go back in a few weeks to remove that and get a sling. His office has tickets and sports memorabilia on the walls and he loves competitive sports, despite his professional appearance and soft manner. Dr. Satow graduated from UCSF, is Japanese American and has a lot of ties to the local Japanese American community.

I'm only 25 and look relatively healthy which means that most doctors I have been referred to treated me like a pain pill addict. Dr. Chang is the first pain management doctor who took the time to see beyond my looks and into how my life has dramatically changed while dealing with excruciating, chronic pain. Dr. Chang gave me something that I had lost a long time ago and that was hope. He showed me my scans and not only explained what we were looking at but then pointed and pressed on the corresponding areas of my body to teach me why I'm having the pain in these areas. Dr. Chang understands the effects that long term, chronic pain can have not only on a persons body but their mental state as well. He attacks the issue of chronic pain from all sides instead of just writing more prescriptions for the physical symptoms. I don't normally write these reviews but after seeing over 25 doctors in the last 3 years for this issue and not gaining much ground against the problem I have to applaud Dr. Chang. He takes the time to let you know all the different ways chronic pain can effect your life and explain in understandable detail the different coping mechanisms that we can use to fight this. Hands down, I would recommend Dr. Chang to anyone who has lost hope of a fulfilling lifestyle due to chronic pain. He doesn't promise to stop the pain completely, because no one can honestly do that, but he gives you the skills and tools to take control of your life again and for that I am extremely grateful.
