I'm only 25 and look relatively healthy which means that most doctors I have been referred to treated me like a pain pill addict. Dr. Chang is the first pain management doctor who took the time to see beyond my looks and into how my life has dramatically changed while dealing with excruciating, chronic pain. Dr. Chang gave me something that I had lost a long time ago and that was hope. He showed me my scans and not only explained what we were looking at but then pointed and pressed on the corresponding areas of my body to teach me why I'm having the pain in these areas. Dr. Chang understands the effects that long term, chronic pain can have not only on a persons body but their mental state as well. He attacks the issue of chronic pain from all sides instead of just writing more prescriptions for the physical symptoms. I don't normally write these reviews but after seeing over 25 doctors in the last 3 years for this issue and not gaining much ground against the problem I have to applaud Dr. Chang. He takes the time to let you know all the different ways chronic pain can effect your life and explain in understandable detail the different coping mechanisms that we can use to fight this. Hands down, I would recommend Dr. Chang to anyone who has lost hope of a fulfilling lifestyle due to chronic pain. He doesn't promise to stop the pain completely, because no one can honestly do that, but he gives you the skills and tools to take control of your life again and for that I am extremely grateful.

We have alot of history as today, I am going on my 12th year of being Cancer Free. In the very beginning of my treatment, Dr. Shiffman wanted to go outside of the box, get other oncologists opinions, anything that it would take because my prognois was prettty bad...a few months at the most. From the very first appointment he had me...his warmth was genuine and his determination was strong. I could call the office at anytime of the day with questions...he has a fabulous staff and I get an answer pronto from either the Doctor himself or one of his assistants. Dr, Shiffman held my hand during some very difficult times and decisions. While an Oncologists has to have one of the hardest jobs in the field of medicine, he always greets you with warmth and a generous hug and you, and during that visit, however long it takes, he is all yours 110%. Thank you Dr. Shiffman for all that you have done for me and so many on the Monterey Peninsula fighting this thing called Cancer.

I am 51 years old, athletic, stubborn and have not been to the Dr. in many years(other than an OB gyn). I finally was in enough chronic pain that I decided to get my hip replaced in November 2014. Well...I go to my preop and they tell me that the surgery is a no go...you have issues with low blood counts. They told me to find a hemotologist so I asked for a referral from my GYN and she suggested Dr. Shiffman. The long and short of it...he worked with another dr in Chicago and talked with a dr in San Francsico about my case and figured out that I have Myeloma. He explained that it is smoldering and it is difficult to diagnose. I was able to get my hip replaced and am feeling good. I now have a great Onco in chicago and I am being watched with no treatment. If I hadn't met Dr. Shiffman, I may have remained one of the many undiagnosed patients. Dr. Shiffman really cares!
