Oysters
Thuyvu P.

My husband and I are from the states and came here for Happy Hour on a Tuesday, it was well worth it! The place is coastal theme and staff was all friendly. Food came out in a decent time frame! HH ITEMS - 6 Oysters + drink (beer, wine, or Highball) $20 - Calamari $16 usually $18 - lightly crisped and thin, just how I like it with a side of what they call a boy ranch sauce (aioli) $2.50 Taco Tuesday's Ordered 3 of these, ugh fish tacos are my favorite and this was perfect! Battered & fried haddock, creamy coleslaw, pico de gallo, salsa varde, chipotle aioli, and cilantro. YUM! Everything was delicious, I wish i could come back. Highly recommend to try !

Sauces for oysters

Great happy hour, great ambience and great fresh and flavorful food with a nice presentation. The staff was super polite and helpful and answered all the questions I had on the menu. I came during the happy hour and it was also Taco Tuesday so win-win for me! The fish tacos had a nice crispy batter and the fish was flaky and tender inside. The sauce that went along with it was yummy! The oysters were fresh as well as the mini crab cakes. Would like to try some entree items next time!

Shrimp and Scallop Pasta

I had the shrimp and scallop pasta. It was delicious. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly.

Chilled marinated mussels $18 during happy hour

First off, GO FOR HAPPY HOUR! Great prices on a good variety of apps and it goes until 6pm, whereas plenty of places in the city cut theirs off at 5, so it's perfect if you're someone who wants to have dinner at a more normal time, haha. Rodney's is the full package. Good quality seafood plus a fair few dishes for the not-so-marine-inclined. Reasonable prices for what it is. The service is outstanding -- a casual vibe but you will always feel taken care of, and if you're the conversational type, you'll end up feeling quite friendly with your waiter by the end of your meal. They keep up well even when it gets busy and always have the answers to the most random of questions about the menu. Accommodating, too! One dish in particular is only served during happy hour, and my waiter hacked the system a bit for me so that I could have that dish as my main even though happy hour was ending. Good selection of oysters but we aren't 'oyster people' so I can't speak much more to that. The dinner plates are all good but the apps and small plates are where they really stand out. Our all-time favourites? Chilled marinated mussels (my dining partner had never tried seafood beyond fish & chips or cheap sushi, and he took one bite and declared them the best thing he'd ever tasted) and the scallop sliders. Those sliders are a religious experience. It can get quite busy and loud so I wouldn't recommend it as a place for a romantic dinner necessarily. The vibe is upbeat and bright even in the evenings when the lights are dimmed, surely supplemented by the delightfully high energy of the servers. Happy hour apps plus two dinner plates ran us about $110; portions are mostly average relative to value. Perfect for both the experienced and tentative seafood eater. I have to come back and try dessert, but from what I've experienced at Rodney's thus far, I imagine it'll only give me more to rave about.

Came here for lunch and I was surprised that there are hardly anyone here. Its not busy at all, unlike the Vancouver location. We ordered mussels and lobster rolls. Well they ran out of the lobster club house and we were told the lobster roll is better. I have to say the Lobster Roll was delicious. mussels are so so and not like wow The menu is totally different from the Vancouver location. I have to say the Vancouver location is better. Again, Calgary isn't big on seafood and there are not a lot of seafood restaurants. Its not bad. But I really love the lobster roll. Only issue is that its very small.

Good happy hour. 6 Oysters and a drink for $20. Halibut tacos were excellent. Hard to get the bill was my only complaint.

Great experience. Delicious food. More than oysters. Trendy atmosphere. No TVs (on purpose - so people talk).

Now I'll drive from the south east into the north west about 40 minutes just to get fresh fish I'm going there for so long I know how great the fish is and how fresh again how honest she is which is so important when you're buying food let alone fish!! I love everything that is great about this little fish store is it's tiny and all they sell is fish. I get about 15 to 20 pieces of fish she puts it in a plastic that is sealed and I can keep it three months in the freezer I could go on but I won't, it's late I'm tired and I have to go to sleep however.... just know everything is fantastic about this place!!

Oakley was our server and he was so kind and informative about the menu and how the restaurant operates. The oyster of the week were the Melpeque's which starts off salty, but compensates the saline flavor with a boom of sea mineral richness. Their house relish and vinegar combined with the oysters intensified the experience and we also had to get the Oysters Florentine which were also decadent and cheesy in the best way possible. Oakley checked in on use occasionally and was also kind enough to give us (since we're Californians) some of the usual things that take place in Calgary (weather, places to check out and etc.) Definitely returning here if we make another trip to Calgary, shout out to Oakley!

When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted right away but even though we had reservations there was some talk about where to sit us. The main dining was near full and so they offered patio or upstairs. It would be more private upstairs as there was no one up there but they warned us that service was slow. Eventually, they sat us in a booth in the main dining area but it was touch and go in the beginning. Not a great impression. Our server mentioned to us that he was new. We found him very friendly and knowledgeable. We came here for the oysters - we ordered 1 Irish Point, 1 Fanny Bay and 2 Malpeque (I wanted to try one). The Malpeque also was the feature Oyster which means they are $1.50 each. I don't usually eat oysters but thought it was good. My wife says the Irish Point and Fanny Bay were good. Because the Malpeque was good and really meaty we ordered 7 more (I wanted one more). Oysters 5* Lamb Shank 4* - Wife ordered this and said it was tender and good. Lamb Burger 2* - Daughter ordered this and patty was small and dry. Lobster Pasta 4* - Son ordered this and lobster tail was meaty and sweet ad pasta was tender. I decided to order 3 appetizers for my meal. Onion Rings - 3* - basic Korean Spicy Chicken Wings 4* - Good kick, but the wings were not that meaty. Seafood Chowder 4* - Lots of things in the chowder. Broth was flavourful but could have been thicker. Service before we got our meals (ordering) and during our meal was great. 5*. Getting the bill and getting our leftovers packed was a little slow. 3*. Decor inside was quite nice - old world feel. We may not come back for dinner but maybe for the Oysters, some appetizers, and drinks.
