We had the lobster with garlic sauce which was phenomenal and the lobster poutine was just okay.. it needed hot gravy and more melted cheese. Complimentary rice was served. It's been a year since we've had the bag of 2 lbs of Shrimp in the medium-spiced Cajun-garlicky Captain's Boil sauce due to the pandemic It came with the Broccoli and corn we ordered. That sauce makes the Shrimp! The shrimp are fully-dressed. Best part is snapping the shrimp head off and sucking that delicious sauce from the head! It was so good! We also ordered Seafood Fried Rice and Calamari appy. The fried rice was enjoyed by all. A teeny bit spicy with bits of seafood like squid and shrimp and corn. The Calamari was sooooooo tender & slightly chewy. That dipping sauce is to-die-for! Everything made it seem like we were at the restaurant. So it was my husband birthday and made reservations at lulu bar but a day before he requested to go to a low key place. Because it was his birthday, he thought "what restaurant does susy always says no when I suggest it". And so Captains boil it was. I have nothing against this particular restaurant, but eating with my hands and have my face all slobbered with sauce is not my thing. So I always have passed. However, at my husbands request I put my gloves on and bib and had really good shrimp with okra and corn with very generous portions. Okra was cooked just right. The sausage and clams my hubbie ordered were yummy too! Sauces were spot on. I am a Believer now and will be coming again. Just don't come here on a first date. :D They also observe covid measures and have limited seating so call ahead and reserve a table. We order medium all the time for level of heat and sometimes it's too spicy it's not edible and sometimes it's perfect. I came back again today and was disappointed in the sauce it made me sick I couldn't finish a bag to myself. But when I came last time it was so good I ate 2 bags. This place is a bit similar to the boiling crab in Los Angeles. We ordered the the pirate combo which you can pick different items in various categories. 1) lobster or crab 2) pick 3 from: clam, mussels, shrimps, and chicken 3) seafood fried rice 4) Cajun fries 5) 4 regular sides 6) 2 premium sides We picked: lobster, clam, mussels, shrimp. For the sides we pick: corn, potatoes, broccoli and okra. And the sauce we picked was captain boil sauces which is a combination of all the sauces. We also ordered an extra pound of crawfish since it wasn't in the combo. Overall, the taste is good but the quality of the seafood is not as great. The clam and shrimp are way smaller than US and the price is expensive compare to LA price. Everything is double if not triple the price. We went to this restaurant after completing an office move. We definitely had a strong appetite. We ended up ordering for about six people. We had three lobsters, 3 crab, 3 lbs of clams and a variety of other side dishes. For sure it was a lot of food. The quality of the seafood is high. The clams were nice and plump and meaty as was the lobster and crab. The sauces were delicious and being able to add and control the spice level was great. I have to say a very enjoyable meal. On the negative side the restaurant doesn't have blinds on their windows. We had half of the table bathed in sun for the whole meal. The other bigger issue is the cost. Our bill came out to 450 dollars. The seafood was good quality and the experience was fun. But it's hard not thinking about how far 450 dollars could take you at another restaurant. Came here on Sunday at 6pm for family dinner. The place was busy but we were lucky to get a table right away. There's limited parking and the restaurant itself is small. We ordered two of the clams, shrimp, king crab, muscles, shrimp fried rice and deep fried shrimp basket and 5 side corns and it cost $290. We got mild and fire hot all captain boil sauce. The flavour was really good. I only ate the mild but by the end it got really really spicy!!! The service was okay, we felt rushed to eat and get out since it was getting busy. This was the best seafood I've had in Calgary by far!!! I have seen this mixture all over instagram. The seafood that comes in a bag with explosive amounts of flavours with sausage, corn, potatoes and more, and I have been obsessed with finding a place that sells food like this for years now, and I finally have! I wish I would have taken a photo of my meal but I was so eager to try it, I didn't get the chance to. The food was astounding! It was the best seafood I've had in the city so far and the meal came equipped with gloves and a plastic sheet (for the seafood.) The only issue I had was I ordered the full crab with potatoes and corn, and I recieved maybe 3-4 potatoes, but only one piece of corn. When we arrived, we were bombarded with demands by our server "Scan this," "Scan that," "take a photo of this." Very unprofessional. About 15 minutes later a lady brought a bucket of something and we couldn't understand what she was saying and she finally left with the bucket. 5 minutes later she brought my food. 5 minutes after that she brought my one sons meal. 15 minutes later she brought 3 more meals. Myself my husband and our infant came here for supper tonight. Everything was excellent!! Compared to a boil I went to in Texas this was right on par. The staff were very excellent as well. I highly suggest going for the captains spice which we had for our crawfish! We had just the garlic butter for the crab and ended up dipping it in the crawfish bag because it was so delicious! I heard about this restaurant through a friend who had seen a video on YouTube about Captain's Boil in another city... I looked up the video and was sold immediately! I actually went for dinner the same night I heard about the restaurant! My thoughts... the food was amazing but so damn expensive! Service was great and the atmosphere cozy. I had an order of snow crab legs, an order of clams, garlic toast, okra and one pop (they charge for each pop individually, no refills ) and my bill was just shy of $80! The portions were average in size and I ate every bite that I ordered. There was not enough food to make a second meal or snack of later. The flavours were UNREAL! I had the garlic sauce on the clams and the Captain's Special blend sauce on the crab, so unbelievably yummy! The okra was awesome and the garlic toast was the most delicious thing on the table... dipped in the sauces made it heaven! How could anyone not LOVE their food?? It's really incredible! My brother treated me to an early birthday lunch. This was our 2nd visit and we had stated with the 12 oysters and I ordered the snow crab legs with the Captain's Boil sauce and okra and rice. My brother had the king crab legs with the garlic butter and his sides were sausage and broccoli. We both chose the mild spiciness- my brother agreed with me on mild- we didn't want the spiciness to over up/mask the seafood's sweetness/taste. The oysters came beautifully shucked- detached from the shell- easy to slurp- and well, my half- no traces of shell!! YIPPEE Good size too! The crab legs came in bags drowned with the sauces= nice and hot! Only downfall- no forks or plates. Last time we were here- we had plates, but we had ordered their lunch special which comes on a sizzling plate and served with utensils. But when you doing- you are basically eating out of the bag and the table is draped with brown paper. And their plastic bags and gloves are biodegradable. When ordering with the Captain's Boil sauce: get extra rice and squeeze it to make a rice ball to make it easier for dipping *lip-smacking The waiter was quite friendly and atmosphere was quite open. My party was a table of 7. When we came in we were seated right away but the waiters kept walking past us for about 10 min and didn't give us a menu yet. We just got up and got our own. In short the customer service was very poor. The holiday feast was posted on the door and when we asked our waiter what was on it, he didn't know and came back with a piece of paper with everything written on it. Very disappointing because the staff should know what their specials are. The only decent part about the customer service we received was when our waiter changed and the new lady who served us checked up on us and knew everything on the menu from the top of her head. Still kind of rude, but better than not being looked after. The cost is also very high for what you get. Although I understand that seafood is expensive, things like potatoes, and corn and the other regular side options should just come with the bags of seafood you get instead of add ons. Most places that i've gone to that serve food like this in this fashion already have those included in the price. Also at this price point you would expect a higher level of customer service. Came here with my girlfriend for our 4-Year Anniversary. Wow. I never thought I'd have to make up a food-term; although, "fall-off-the-shell" comes to mind. Now I know shellfish is normally tender in and of itself, something was different about this. I was pulling rather than breaking, squeezing rather than cracking. The meat was easily available with minimal work compared what's expected. I've had shellfish many times throughout my life; tails, legs, rolls (my favourite), but never as a Cajun Boil, and never with an Asian flare to it. That flavour. My goodness, it was last night and I'm still thinking about it! First they give you your beverage (as expected). Next comes the Sides; we both had the Cajun Fries, the spice factor was perfect -- great way to wet the appetite. Finally, the main course; we had both the Lobster & Snow Crab, Captain's Sauce, Medium Heat. While the Snow Crab was delicious, the Lobster truly shined. I didn't know shellfish could have flavour like this -- and I love shellfish already as it is! They have 4 sauces; with the 4th, the Captain's Sauce, being a culmination of the first 3. I'd say if it's your first time; go all in: * Get the Lobster * Captain's Sauce * Medium Heat * Pick whatever Side * Sapporo Beer to chase Sapporo is actually my favourite beer to that also worked out. Whenever I'm in Sacramento to visit family, I always make it my mission to visit Boiling Crab to feast on their seafood. When I found out we opened one similar here in Calgary, I was thrilled. No complaints on the food, always tasted good. My only protest is that during the summer, you get blasted with sun through the windows and during winter, the place feels like a freezer. It really kills the mood. I have to keep my winter jacket on to keep myself warm and it gets difficult having to eat with extra layers on, always having to check if you got sauce all over. First off, they have weird hours that start at 5pm. We had to wait awhile to get seated and when we finally did, we waited another 35 minutes before our order was taken. Then, after finishing our meal, we were surprised by the cost of it--this was because they had messed up our order. We ordered snow crab and got king crab instead. We always go to crawfish restaurants whenever we're in the US and been wondering when Calgary would get one (Vancouver and Toronto have a few already) so I was surprised and delighted to see a Captains Boil sign passing through Center Street, we knew we had to try it ASAP. Service is a little slow but I'm hoping it's only because they just opened recently. Also expect long waiting times (over 30min), longer if you're with a group. Ambiance is really nice, very clean with nice decorations, they will provide you a plastic bib and gloves at the table, there's also a hand-wash station (great as we don't like using gloves) We ordered shrimp, mussel, clams in mild captains boil and shrimp in non-spicy garlic. Wife does not like spicy food so we went with mild and non-spicy first also so that we can taste their spices first but really mild had no kick at all so will be trying spicy next. I was a little disappointed with their spices as it looked and tasted like 80% butter and 20% spices. They don't use a lot of garlic either and it was pureed instead of chopped so flavor did not fuse much in the seafood. Corn, potatoes were good and the sausages were really good, have to try okra next. And fortunately they cater to the asian crowd so there's white rice, IMO don't bother with the fried rice. Just grab a spoon full of spices from the bag and pour it on your rice. Garlic bread goes well too. They currently don't have crawfish as it's not in season and waitress claimed their source is from the pacific and not south-east USA. I was reading an article about pacific crawfish couple of months ago, on how it is bigger and tastier than NOLA crawfish and how it is spreading in the Washington state so I'm guessing that's where it will be coming from (counting down for April) Overall, we can see going here once a month. read more

I asked for a bowl to pour the boil into and some utensils to eat with, the waitress gave me a plastic fork and knife. If this were a food truck this is fine, but this is a restaurant with expensive prices. The waitress told me to use my hands to eat the boiling hot seafood and potatoes that were served in a plastic bag. The presentation of the boil does not match the prices. I could have picked up mussels, shrimp, potato from superstore boiled it in a pot with instant noodle mix, poured it into a plastic bag and I would have the exact same thing. This was the most disgusting place I have eaten from in a very long time. The fried rice I ordered was dry, undercooked and was straight up disgusting when it came to the taste. The garlic toast is tasteless because they cant even make their own fresh toast but resort to buying the cheap garlic toast from superstore. I love Boils, my favourite place is Hot N' Juicy Crawfish in Vegas which is is a MUST when I go to LV. I was so looking forward to trying this place. Weekends the line ups are long and there are no reservations. I managed by going before the regular dinner crowd around 5 p.m. It's basically seafood, boiled in a bag with their blend of spices and it literally comes in a bag and handy gloves for you to dig in and eat with your hands. I believe that there is no better way to enjoy seafood, especially shrimp when you have to peel and eat it. I'm only giving this place a 3 because the seafood is not the freshest but overall including the portions, cost and flavours and service it's an OK place and I would go again. I had the Shrimp with the Captain's boil blend of spices at Fire heat. The flavours were great and Fire level of heat was just right, it has a nice warm burn but not gasping. The server was good enough to tell me that they had a Volcano level of heat that wasn't on the menu and if I wanted something truly hot it was available. Fresh shrimp at it's finest has a certain "crunch" to it, there's no other way to describe it and their shrimp didn't have that crunch; if you've had fresh shrimp you will understand what I mean. Since seafood is the main fare of this place, freshness is a MUST so for this reason i rate the food at around 2 to 2.5 as it wasn't the freshest of seafood. Service is pleasant. The place is simple and really it's put on your bib and get eating so doing anything else that is not food related is restricted unless you want to spread sauce and juices all over the place. My wife and I went on a Thursday night, not too busy. Total bill was $100 + tip (only two beers, the rest was food) so a bit expensive for most. The Good: Service was fast, friendly, considerate, informative. The food was good (king crab legs, fish and chips, fries, corn) but not exceptional. The ambiance was fine - newly renovated of course. The Not So Good: First, when you spend $100 for two people on a meal, you are hoping for a bit of professionalism with the staff. Unfortunately, most of the servers were dressed in some sort of mix between yoga wear and skater wear. Please, no more lululemon! One disturbing note: one server had skater shoes on and on the bottom sole, clearly visible, was inked in black: "403 F*** You". Really? As a server you think that's appropriate? What if kids came in and saw that? So, server "professionalism" is not there. And, heck, maybe some people don't care. Second, they do this strange thing of putting your bill on the table, adding to it, crossing things off, etc. When we asked, the said "it's so we know that you got all of your food". Ok, fair enough but what happened to the old days where "memory" was used? Worse, at one point they asked, "did you get everything?" Well, either use the silly bill system or not! Finally, I really can't say the food was great. Good, sure. But Calgary has so many great places to eat it will be hard to justify going back here (especially at the prices) The fish and chips were good, but nothing you can't get at a dozen other places. The crab legs were good but a bit fishy and the way they serve it (bag) means some parts are really spicy and other parts not so much. And, sure, the corn and fries were fine. Didn't know this place existed until just recently, and I'm super glad a friend introduced it to me. The restaurant had its grand opening just a couple of days prior, so despite it being fairly busy, we were seated right away. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was great, and our food arrived quick. I ordered the mussels with potatoes in their recommended Captain's Boil sauce, which came in a big bag we ate out of with a bib and some gloves. It was absolutely delicious and the experience was extremely enjoyable! Although it was a bit pricey, I highly recommend giving this place a try! I've already made plans to go back again. read more
