Dan B.

A while back I visited Rocky's Gyros in Berkeley, not too long after I posted my review I got a message from management of this establishment who were a little unhappy about the fact that I gave them two stars for reasons beyond their control (particularly a beggar came into the restaurant, interrupted the meal and asked for money). So I put them on my list of places to revisit and here we are some months later and I've had this opportunity. In my most recent visit to Rocky's Gyros I got a hot dog and fries and a drink. The food was out quickly and I soon started to dig in after investigating the dog. The bun here was a non-poppy seed bun. There was some dryness, though it was definitely soft. There was some celery salt on the hot dog (well mostly on the pickle slice), some thick tomato slices, and some nice sport peppers. The onion on this hot dog was thickly cut and a good compliment. The sausage used here was skinless, the relish was bright and green and had a nice taste to it. The mustard was well applied. Overall this was a pretty average hot dog, made well enough to not disappoint but nothing really stood out. What was different about the food this time around was the french fries. The fries here used to be long steak style fries, these have been replaced by crinkle cut fries. I prefer the crinkle cut fries as they have a slightly crispier outside and a nicer potato paste taste on the inside. Overall I was happy with the fry upgrade. I am going to raise my score for Rockys from two stars to three. This was definitely a better experience than my first visit, and I like the change in french fries.

Since my favorite deli in Franklin Park IL closed after 60 years, not really but it was sold and…read morethe new owners are going in a different direction so with empty meat cases the subs must be gone. So I had to find a new Italian deli in the area and this place had an authentic Italian sub on the menu with prosciutto, Genoa salami, capicola, provolone cheese, Italian dressing, lettuce and tomato that I added raw onions, hot giardiniera and mayo. It's a deli/mini mart/gambling machine/cafe with friendly service. The meats were skimpy was my first thought, see my pictures. My first thought after taking the first bite was WOW this Italian hoagie bread was perfect/fresh with that great chew/pull. Even with the skimpy meat the whole combination with me tweaking the sandwich was so fu#king delicious I got a second one to take back to WI for dinner. The area probably has a better Italian deli the residents will tell you but I'm in town once a year so next year I will try another Italian deli until I find one to start a new tradition like my old friend for many years that is no more. My final thought is that the price point is similar to the chain sub restaurants with a high quality sub sandwich and why anyone in the area that goes to a chain with this gem is beyond me because they do an authentic Italian sub very well.

This is an interesting place. It's a restaurant, liquor store, gaming, and grocery store all in…read moreone. The beef wasn't that great, the peppers tasted like they had been soaking in tomato sauce all day. Meat lacked flavor. BUT the beef isn't the reason for the trip. The breaded chicken sandwich is a banger! Seasoned to perfection. I've had it many times but this was the first time I had it fresh at the store and not delivered.

10/9/26 update: I…read morewas in the mood for these Asian inspired sandwiches. Parking is still the same but can be limited at 12:30 pm. They have more staff working. They have 7 tables and 4 barstools (communal table against the wall). They have two kiosks that you can order from. They have one gender neutral bathroom. We ordered spicy garlic shrimp as a rice paper wrap, Thai pork belly (sandwich), and Sichuan spicy brisket (sandwich). The food was just as excellent as the first time we came here. I'm glad they kept consistent after all these years. Sichuan spicy brisket was a tad bit spicy but nothing overwhelming. The meat in the Thai pork belly was very tender and juicy. The spicy garlic shrimp as a rice paper wrap is a great alternative if you're on a low carb diet or you can't handle gluten.

So glad we happened to be in the area and tried this place for lunch. The restaurant has a very…read moreJapanese feel to it. You place your order on the tablet, there is just one guy working in there who makes the food and places it on the counter. The decor is simple and just right. The food is the best food ever! I had the rice paper wrap with tofu in it. I could only eat half as I was so full. The seasoning on the fries is so good.. and the cucumber salad was top notch. Even the drinks in the cooker area were very interesting that I had never seen before. It's very clear that this is a very well thought out restaurant. The only feedback I would give is to add a couple of options for vegan gluten free in the menu. My wrap had to be customized and communicating with the chef was a bit of a challenge due to language.

Kudos to Jaison and his team for their professionalism and commitment to excellent service. The service was amazingly fast, efficient and very friendly. Jaison was well organized, knowledgeable and patient as he helped me navigate through the numerous catering options available. The platters I ordered were all made with quality ingredients and with a beautiful presentation. The sandwiches were fresh, flavorful, with generous portions and a hit with our guests! A numbers of guests expressed interest in personally using Firehouse Subs in the future. It was a sincere pleasure working with this great staff at Stone Park.

1 Star - Terrible Customer Service and No Resolution After Over a Month!…read more On August 17, 2026, I placed a company lunch order with Firehouse Subs. When I returned to the office, we discovered that we were missing THREE employees' lunches -- one large New York Steamer and two bowls of chili. I immediately contacted the restaurant manager, who offered me a discount on a future visit or told me to fill out an online complaint form. I should not have to return and spend more money to receive compensation for food I already paid for and never received! Since August 18, I have sent multiple emails to Firehouse Subs Guest Services, provided my receipt, and repeatedly followed up requesting either a refund to our credit card or a gift card. Every response has been the same: "Your case has been escalated to restaurant management." It has now been over a MONTH, and absolutely NOTHING has been done. No refund, no gift card, and no resolution. What is the point of having a Guest Services department if all they do is apologize and forward emails without actually resolving customer complaints? This was a company lunch order, and three employees were left without their meals. Mistakes happen, but how a company handles those mistakes says everything about its customer service. Extremely disappointed in Firehouse Subs and the lack of accountability. I would think twice before placing a large company order here again.

I'm absolutely over the moon with this place! The restaurant is AMAZING, the service was great, and…read morethe food... WOW.... I ordered a soup and a pasta, and both were DELICIOUS. What really makes this place stand out for me is the variety. Sometimes when looking for vegan food, the options can feel pretty limited to fried foods, burgers, wings, etc, but here, you can find more prepared meals, pastas, soups, salads, plus the desserts are a DREAM. Absolutely outstanding! GOTTA BE BACK SOON!

Markedly below average food. Ordered the rainbow rolls, Grace's teriyaki, Burmese noodle salad, and…read morethe green tea cheesecake. Adequate service and totally unremarkable ambiance. The rainbow rolls consisted of plain, uncooked vegetables wrapped in rice paper, accompanied by peanut sauce as well as a vinegar dip. There was absolutely no taste to the rainbow rolls, and the peanut sauce tasted like peanut butter that had been microwaved for twenty seconds. The vinegar dip was the only thing that salvaged the rolls. The teriyaki did not come as advertised. There were chunks of glazed soy in brown rice - no other veggies in the bowl itself. There was a side salad that I dumped into the bowl to add some crunch and texture. The glazed soy was tasty but the rice was remarkably bland and mushy. This regime of blandness continued with the Burmese noodle salad: some of the flavours had potential and the dish might have been tastier if those flavours were accentuated, but instead it was a bowl of noodles and assorted vegetables with no compelling taste or texture. The cheesecake was both too sweet and remarkably bitter at the same time. It was fine texturally but the sweetness was overwhelming. The layer of tea on top of the cheesecake added some bitterness. The two flavours were totally incongruous. I have never wasted dessert before - if I can't finish it I take it home, but this dessert was so inedible that even at nine dollars it was not worth salvaging. Service was fine and the food came out quickly. The location of the restaurant in downtown Oak Park was nice - there was some sort of music festival going on outside that made an otherwise aggressively mediocre meal more bearable. Overall, I do not recommend this establishment.
