We arrived on a Sunday to watch the football games. We ordered the chips and guacamole and buffalo wings. The chips are from a bag. The guacamole is from a bag. Neither one is worth ordering again. The buffalo wings, on the other hand, are among the best I have ever had. They did a two-step frying process that gives a light crispy outside. OK for hotel food. I ordered the pan-crusted salmon with rice pilaf dish. It was cooked in coconut curry sauce and garnished with a side of garlicky green beans. It was nice and not too heavy. $23 though. It came with a side of jalapeno corn bread...that was a disappointment. The bread was re-warmed and dry. Also, the honey cream cheese it came with was frozen still. My colleague got the seared ahi tuna salad. He said it was fishy so he only ate the salad. He then ordered the creme brulee cheesecake. That was pretty much a store bought cheese cake slice drizzled in caramel. Three stars is fair. At least we didn't need to drive somewhere to get food when it's 8:30PM. read more

It's unprecedented for me to post a higher rating for a business (understanding that the more recent one supersedes the original) within a day or two of my original post, but - as the old saying goes - there's a first time for everything. Yesterday I fired off an e-mail to Tom Pugh, the GM of Embassy Suites San Marcos, outlining my absurdly infuriating experience trying to make reservations for Thanksgiving. Today - Saturday - I received the following message from him: "Thank you for sharing your comments on your Thanksgiving experience with us. I will share your kudos on the food and service with our team. Additionally, we will come up with a way to fix the problems you experienced in making reservations. I apologize for the frustrating experience. We value your feedback and your business. We look forward to serving you again and please let me know if I can ever be of assistance to you." As an experienced critic of everything from restaurants to public servants (and yes: I do, indeed, write scathing letters when occasion warrants), I was astonished to receive such cogent acknowledgment - particularly in such a short period of time! So far not so good. I am currently sitting in the bar area and 20 min of my life has passed by. I have tried repeatedly to get anyone's attention and the only one taking notice of me is another table that is now enjoying my efforts as their evenings entertainment. I will approach the bar. No good. 5 min here and the bartenders are busy and no time for walk ups that don't stand in front of them. I will try to stand in the way of the waitress. She walked around me... I will go to the bar and talk to her. Success! She will come to my table and take my order. She moves on to two other tables first but does come to me. The first thing she says is that a lot of orders came in at the same time. I call BS on her and tell her the exact time that 4 different tables come in and what their drink orders were. I know this because I was seated ahead of all of them and ignored. Note to other servers. Don't blame others for your mistake. Simply apologize and take my order. Drinks came out quickly Wings came out. They are not hot but not too cold so we will eat them without complaint. There is no silverware or napkins. Time to complain. I go up and get some napkins and some silverware. The experience is nit getting better and the bar area is clearing out so it is not that busy anymore. She comes to my table with another excuse about the silverware Food comes out and it is wrong. This review is over. I can't even objectively rate the foods at this point. The experience is so poor. I am here for a few days and this is the last time I will eat here. I am a gold member and travel extensively internationally. This is one of the worst Hilton experiences I have ever had and not representative of the brand. the food is good the service is nice- but so slow- at a convention hotel you think it would be faster. I love that you have the full menu for room service and only a 2 dollar charge- it is easier than going out to a place. I got faster service at the bar eating there. The bar staff was friendly but the restaurant staff was incredibly rude when I tried to sit down in the restaurant. I had the chicken and waffles which was a little weird since the waffles have bacon cooked into them. I had reservations about this and asked about having the bacon removed but apparently it's already prepared in the batter this way. To ease my concerns they brought me a side of standalone bacon. When the food came out, you really couldn't taste the bacon in the waffles and I had went with the bartenders suggestion to get regular syrup instead of spicy syrup. The seasoning and batter used on the chicken was unique and an acquired taste that after eating about half of it, I discovered I just wasn't mean to acquire. Service was ok bordering lackluster as my drink sat empty for a while (it's worth noting the cup sizes here are like half a soda can when you add ice so you may as well serve two drinks at a time) before a bartender came over to refill it because they were all hiding out on the backside of the bar socializing. I have enjoyed dinners at more convention hotels than I care to count and the majority of them are very good, this one may be the exception. Our waiter seemed like it was his first day and wasn't familiar with the menu at all. We ordered our food which was difficult mostly because he did not understand the difference between medium and medium rare. I understand he may have been new but where is the training for this restaurant? I would expect a training process before a new employee is on the floor. The fresh bread loaf was not fresh and more like a squashed muffin. We both ordered blue cheese salad dressing but they only had enough for one of the salads. The rib eye was tasty but for price of the meal I would expect more. In summery I would try and find something outside the hotel for a meal. read more

I never write reviews, but absolutely had to for this place. We had my daughter's graduation dinner there Dec 2014. I can't say enough wonderful things about the courtesy in planning, the room was perfect, deco was classy, chairs were super comfy, service was outstanding and food was fabulous (my parents said the salmon surpassed their favorite restaurant in Houston). They even made personalized menus congratulating her on her graduation and let us bring in dessert (and gave the graduate a special dessert as well!) We got there much earlier than planned but they were still very accommodating. I'd give them 10 stars if I could and thank them so much for making a once-in-a-lifetime evening even happier than we ever dreamed. THANKS! read more

By far one of the best, establishments in the city of San Marcos. Our servers Marissa and Chelsi were very attentive and hospitable. Their manager Corey Murray actually stopped by each table to make sure that everything was going great. As far as the food goes, I could not have enough of their beer battered shrimp and mole wings. With their new "re-vamped" menu, this restaurant is on their way to the top of the charts. If you're in town, I highly recommend this establishment. read more

Me and a few girl friends were staying at the hotel not too long ago and didn't want to get out to eat so we decided to eat at the grill, which was totally convenient . We ordered some drinks before our meal (I ordered the Lavender Vanilla Martini...can you say heart eyes!! YUM) I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich to eat and to my surprise it was very tasty, not to mention the fries were crispy and salty just how I like them. Our glasses were never less than half full which is something I love at a restaurant. But overall I was more impressed with the hospitality of the servers. Yeah, I know...don't expect much from a hotel restaurant. But come on, even with my standards lowered this was not worth stars! First, the waitress took 3 tries to bring me a Diet Coke (first two were Dr. Pepper & Diet Dr. Pepper, so she was getting closer). Second, when she was finally ready to take my order it turned out they were all out of the chicken (maybe mention that when you seat people?). Ended up ordering the corn chowder, jalapeño cornbread, and the chili-rubbed sirloin. I expected jalapeños in the cornbread (it's in the name), but the chowder was FULL of them (and barely any corn). Cornbread was ok, a little stale, and the cinnamon butter served with it was so full of sugar it was gritty. Steak arrived on a flat, square plate not designed to hold anything with even a drop of sauce, so it got messy fast. The sirloin was actually cooked well and very tender, but almost inedible because it was so thickly coated in a blackened paste of what I assumed was supposed to be the "chili rub" but just looked and tasted like burnt dirt. I scraped off as much as I could and drowned the rest in A1 sauce purely as a survival tactic. Didn't tempt fate with dessert, just went back to my room to snack on the complimentary peanuts. read more

I travel a lot and I've never been to a hotel restaurant that has performed this poorly. When we arrived the hostess took us to a table. And once we sat down we saw all the stains on the chairs. Our water glasses had stains on the bottom. The carpet was discussing. The decor is terrible. First glance at the menu. They did not have a proper drink menu for the bar. I would like to know what I'm getting. And the food prices are ridiculous!!!! And if it wasn't for the sever I would have left after the first bit of the pre made food. So half way through the meal I'm guessing it was the manager asking how our service has been. First off I couldn't understand a word he was saying. Second I don't understand why they would have him as a spokesman for the restaurant. He seemed very rude. For a four star hotel I think it's time to get your restaurant in order. We ate at Rocky River Grill while staying at the Embassy Suites because we were too tired to look for a place to eat outside of the hotel, and after eating here I think the convenience is the only compelling factor. The prices were rather high and the food was just "edible," as one of my dining partners accurately stated. I'm pretty sure the oranges on my salad were canned and just tasted awful, and the other people I ate with had similar complaints about the freshness and tastiness of their meals as well. I'm sure there are a couple of solid things on the menu but I don't think we found any of them. I also ordered an iced tea which was not good at all and there was still a price sticker on my glass which made me wonder if it had been washed(?) so that was kind of off-putting as well. The bottom line is that it's still hotel food, but the ambience was nice and the space was clean, and let's be honest: when you're tired and in your hotel after a day of traveling or working you don't really mind what you're eating as long as it's edible, which this was. read more

Had a really good experience here and will definitely be back. Ordered the portobello melt which was really yummy and my food came out quickly. My sandwich had this amazing sauce on it that I loved and came with homemade chips and dip. Left the restaurant totally stuffed for a reasonable price. The service was awesome too. Everyone was friendly and fast. They have a really extensive menu so I can't wait to come back and try other things. Would be a great spot for a date night. read more
