Rock Point State Park is a 120 acre park located along the Narragansett Bay. It opened in 2014 but it had a very long history before that. From the 1840s to 1990s, it was an amusement park; I even remember going there as a little kid. They had rides such as rollercoasters and a ferris wheel to a saltwater pool. Due to financial issues, it sadly closed in the 90s. There are some structures from that era that remains, like the arch and skyliner. We enjoyed the 1.6 mile loop walking path path; it's paved and you can also ride bikes and skate. There is a beautiful fishing pier, boat ramp, and it is even dog friendly. There are also plenty of parking. My family and I enjoyed walking and reading the educational signs. There were plenty of benches and picnic tables to rest at too. Overall, a beautiful park that is also very nostalgic to me.

My whale watching cruise got cancelled so I needed something to do. And I decided to check out Rocky Point State Park. I was never able to get to the actual Rocky Point Park when it was operational, so this place has less sentimentality for me than most others, nonetheless it's still an enjoyable experience. An approximately 1-mile path wraps around the park, running along the waterfront in parts. There are signs up where rides where, and even some remitments of the rides. On a day like this it was perfect as the breeze off the water kept you cool with the high humidity. Plenty of parking and a an overall great place for a walk/jog.

What a beautiful park with many trails and beautiful views. Take a walk out onto the pier and enjoy the water view.

Rocky Point feels like home to the heart. The wide open sky, gentle shoreline, and quiet walking paths create a peaceful, natural space where families can simply be themselves. I've photographed many sessions here, including the one in these images -- where a family sat together by the water, talking, laughing, letting their little one explore. Nothing posed. Nothing forced. Just honest connection in a beautiful place. If you're looking for simple magic, Rocky Point is a wonderful choice.

Rocky Point is one of my go-to places to hunt for sea glass. The parking lot is vast and has clean portable restrooms. It's an easy walking path to the pier, and they have handicap accessible parking spaces closer to their pier if needed. This park is also pet friendly!

Gave 3 stars. The park itself is a solid 5 for view, space, and parking. However, the condition of the port-o-johns were disgusting. NoTP, filled to rim with trash and waste. Half fast mowing of grass areas. All over grown around trees along the walkway to the beach, so high we couldn't set up chairs under the shade. We weren't the only people to comment on how crappy it looked.

Gone are the days when you could ride the Music Express or sneak a kiss in the Haunted House at Rocky Point Park. Fun memories. Summer excursions at this location go back to the mid 1800's While I am not old enough to remember those days, I do have memories as a small child swimming in the saltwater pool and dining on clam cakes and chowder in their dining hall. Long past, the amusement park has closed, the rides sold off and thanks to the many people who worked to preserve this site for the public, instead of allowing it to be turned into condos, this site is now a wonderful large park that we can all still enjoy. No fee to enter, there is a large parking lot, with a strip of paved parking along the edge of an open field, and the remainder unpaved. Several paved handicapped parking spots are near the water; drive through the main parking area, and down a short drive to access these spots. Walking paths are paved; good for a stroller or wheelchair. There are a couple of porta-johns in the main parking area during the summer months, and a handicapped accessible, open pit latrine, year round. You'll want your own hand sanitizer or wipes when using these facilities. Where the rides once stood, are now open fields, great for kite flying, or a friendly game of soccer. Where the cottages once stood is a shady, wooded space nice for a summer picnic or reading that summer book. Old Rocky Road, that once served the cottages, is now used as a pedestrian pathway from the neighborhood along the main road. A roadway slowly being overtaken by nature. Being a history buff, I appreciate the signs posted around the park describing what once was located at each site, such as the now filled in salt water pool, with photos of how it once was. Park organizers have also preserved some of the more permanent items that once donned the amusement park like the 'sky ride' pillars and the Arch. There is a small beach here with that rough, pebbly RI sand (state beaches further south have nice soft sand trucked in) and just wide enough to lay out a towel to sun bathe, or bring a folding chair to enjoy the breezes. If you don't mind the rough sand on your feet, the shoreline is long enough for a walk on the beach. The fishing pier was recently rebuilt and includes a section of railing that is lower to accommodate children, or wheelchair fishing. This is the only pier in RI that offers deep sea fishing. Not being a fisherwoman, I cannot attest to this, but that is what the sign says :D There is a space at the end of the pier for scaling and gutting your catch (not low enough for wheelchairs) so it can get a bit smelly here on a hot summers day; even with the seagulls 'cleaning up' the area. There are a few benches to sit and enjoy the views and breezes, some in the open sun, others in the shaded area, at the end of the pier. Close to the city, this makes a quick get away from the bustle and noise of modern living (with the exception of the boom box others may be enjoying on their day off). Sea breezes, the sound of water lapping at the shore, sunshine, a stroll in nature. Rocky Point is a nice location to walk, sit on a bench overlooking the water, or spread out a picnic blanket and take a nap by the seaside .

Rocky Point Park is 120 acres making for a huge passive park by the water. There are no playgrounds or drinking water but they did have some portable toilets in the parking area and a large picnic shelter. Several trails go along the water and through the open grass fields that used to be where an amusement park had set up rides and equipment. Some of the trails are quite smooth and handicapped accessible. Some of them are not. As with any hike, always bring a friend as there are minimal facilities or patrols. Around the park are a number of captions and signs showing the history of the park. Quite cool and very interesting. Despite the cold, wind and light rain, I had a nice walk. Sooo pretty! Definitely a bit of a walk to the water, but that's ok. Nice beach with shells and large pebbles my dog enjoyed running around on. Pretty view. Some rocks to climb and sit on.

I just recently started visiting this park again after a nearly 30 year hiatus. I am thrilled that this park is fully open to the public. It has a newly paved walking path, a pier with a covering, a small beach that is accessible by foot, and they've kept up some of the historical pieces from the amusement park with plaques that provide visitors some of the parks history over the past 100 years.

It was a very windy day so we didn't spend too much time here but we walked to the pier and enjoyed the views!
