I called him at noon one day and he was at my house at 4:30 that very same day to take a look at the job and give me an estimate which was more than fair. I have used John's services twice for locks and both times, John was able to help me out within an hour or two of the call (usually locksmiths in the Boulder area require several days to get out to you). On top of that, John is very good at communication and is up front about his costs. I also find his rates to be very reasonable. John is PASSIONATE about what he does and really knows his stuff. the guy john is a total scammer he took my money gave me a key that only worked one time when he showed me it then it wouldn't work again when I called his he tried to charge me a extra 90 to reprogram key again when it was done incorrectly in the first place he won't return my calls and left me with no key to start my truck but yet he still got paid. I wanted to write this review months ago but just never thought of it until now because I have been dealing with so many security issues. I called this company last Summer to have my locks changed and this company had the best price so I hired them. The guy seemed like he knew what he was doing and the job seemed great. He even mentioned that he does sprinkler systems on the side if I ever needed someone. Then a few months later I contacted him because I wanted to see if he specialized in finding hidden cameras and he said that he and his friend have a side business and would love to help out. So he and another man came out and said it would be $300 an hour and I have a 1000 sq ft home so I thought it would not cost that much. One guy was on the computer trying to find a hacker and the other was walking around with this device. It would have been done quickly but the computer guy accidentally disconnected my wifi and could not figure out how to get it working so it took a lot longer. I did notice that the guy looking for the camera was just kind of walking around and not really scanning as much as I would think necessary. So it was two and and half hours when the job should have been done in an hour. Found nothing. Then the guy wanted to charge me $600. $300 for the computer guy and $300 for the scan and I argued and said it should not have taken this long and I would pay for the two and a half and he got aggressive with me and said that he does not charge by the 1/2 hour only by the hour and I got scared so I paid him. I did not feel like this was a thorough job so I ended up calling another company that came out and had every tool in the book and bound seven cameras in my home and that my icloud was hacked into. So I called the guy and told him to give me a refund and he refused but ended up only giving me $300. Even though this other company found so many things this company missed. I would not hire for this type of job and to be honest with his aggressiveness towards single women, I would not hire him for anything. read more

Maybe John does ok with his locksmith business, but I have had nothing but bad experiences with his customer service when it comes to his security business. We have used John for our business and the owner's home security for several years. He supplied us with these flimsy window sticker signs that go on the outside of the window, but they are just paper, they are not window proof. Didn't know this prior to signing up. No problem, I'll just change them frequently. Problem is, I have been asking for these stickers for absolute months now....going on a year. These are small stickers that easily fit into an envelope. He continues to promise to get them to me, but to date, no stickers. He has excuse after excuse. So on 7/19 he tells me that he is in the "area" frequently, and will drop them by. Great. So, here we are on 8/3...still no stickers. So, I just called him and asked where they were. He said that he hadn't been in the area, so he would drop them in the mail....which was all I wanted him to do months and months ago. Anyway, I said "Oh, ok. So you will get them in the mail today." He said, "I will get them in the mail when I get a chance to do so. You need to understand that I run 2 businesses!". I said "the fact that you have 2 businesses has nothing to do with me or what we have been talking about for the past 6-9 months". Somewhere in the middle of my response, he hung up on me. I would not recommend John or his security business to anyone. This is not the only issue we have had with him. Billing has always been an issue...always. Definitely looking for someone else to take care of our needs. Still can't believe that he hung up on me. read more

I don't usually write reviews for anything good nor bad but I feel I need to for this place. First of all he was late, which he called to let me 20 minutes after our scheduled time that and that he was just a few minutes away. So I wait and finally decide that an hour is way too much time and there is no way he is anywhere near my house. So I call him and he says he's stuck in traffic, how are you close to my house but an hour out of range. So finally he gets to my house and have a key fob and a key to be cut, which I supplied. I could really care less about having a spare key made but I figured I might as well get everything done at once, but I'm more interested in having my car remote programmed. First he cuts the key and it does not work and offers to charge me for one of the ones he has on hand which I didn't take because obviously I already bought a key. so I ask to move on to the next task, which some how he misunderstood and my price quote was not for programming. at this point I just want to program my remote and go to work. conveniently the programmer doesn't work and he will come back free of a service charge when he figures out what was wrong with his machine for $25. I paid $65 for a key that does not work and I still have not received a call about fixing my car remote. I really hate writing bad reviews but I feel like I was scammed and wasted a lot of time waiting for nothing. read more

I am shocked to read some of these comments about how great John Duran was. My experience was completely different. I scheduled the appointment a week in advance for two combination lock changes. I also sent driving and parking instructions to our airport location. I found out the day of the appointment that he did not take the time to read the directions. He seemed more concerned with the method payment rather than to ask me any questions about how to access our location. The day of our scheduled 1:00 pm time, he emailed me at 12:54 pm to inform me that he is running 15-30 minutes behind. Initially, I did not have a problem with him running late. However, that 15-30 minutes turned out to be an hour. When he finally arrived at 2:00 pm, he had trouble figuring out where/how to access the building and parking. He also complained that there wasn't enough signage. I reminded him that I did send directions and they were very clear on where to go. His response was he does 8-10 jobs a day, receives a lot of email and doesn't have the opportunity to read through all of the details. My Director of Finance gave him directions over the phone and I even walked outside to be of assistance. I located him and in the essence of time (since he was an hour late) I asked if he could valet in front of the hotel. We were not going to charge him for this and the visit probably would have been an hour to an hour and a half at the most. He seemed fine with that but in order to park there he would have to leave his van key with the valet associate. He did not want to give the valet attendant his key. So, I explained he would then have to go through the left gate, drive down to the end of the short road and park by our receiving dock. He would then have to walk back to where I was to access the building and my office. Those were the original instructions that were emailed to him and that he didn't read. He stated that this was taking too much time and he was already running behind to other appointments. I apologized that parking was taking a while. I also reminded him that he was an hour late and that I did send directions well in advance. He told me rather rudely that, we should just forget it and that I should call another company. I was stunned. At that point he proceeded to get back in his van and drive away. I thought he was rude and unprofessional. He was even a bit curt on the phone when he arrived and couldn't figure out where to go. I felt as though he treated our business as an inconvenience. That is certainly not how you treat someone who hired you for a service. We could have been a great business reference for him and we certainly could have used him at our other locations. Unfortunately, I cannot in good faith recommend John Duran/Rocky Mountain Security Group services to anyone and I hope my post will be a fair warning to anyone who is considering using them in the future. read more
