This overstimulation made it almost impossible to control, and we had to pick very odd times to walk him to be able to avoid seeing anyone. We have worked with Dan for a month now and the change is amazing! He used to run over dogs in his excitement, and often bump into people as well. He now walks well on a leash, we can see when he starts to get excited and actually stop and redirect him. We can call him, and even have a dog run perpendicular across his oath, and he still comes directly to us. We are so excited that we can now take him places with us and meet all of his doggy cousins!!! Dan is great to work with, and with his instructions and our daily follow-up training, we have come so far in a very short period of time. I cried the first couple of classes, because we could not control our dog. I cried at the last class, because we had complete control over him. I highly recommend Dan and Triumphant Canine for all sorts of dog training. If he can calm and control a 170 lb English Mastiff who acts.like a puppy, he can train anything.

The question is, "Is there such a thing as a dog whisperer?" Good question…read more We needed one. Our 1 1/2 year old pointing lab became gun shy and shut down. He refused to hunt or even move on his own when out in a field. It was horribly sad and most likely my fault. Then we rescued a 4-year-old red bone coon hound mix. What can you do with a hound dog when you are an upland game bird hunter? The two dogs quickly became best buddies. We searched high and low for a dog trainer who could possibly help. Finally, a decision to call Jennifer Goodwin at Valhalla-Bijou Hunt Club was made. She called back that evening, we discussed the issues, and a date was set to meet and see what we, or more appropriately, she could do. After a few training sessions I watched our lab hunt today. If you were to ask, I would say Jennifer performed miracles each time she worked with our dogs. She figures out what each dog is up to and has the understanding and patience, lots of patience, to effectively help the dog. She quickly saw that our hound dog could be used for support and confidence to help get our lab excited about birds. She utilized the competition between the two dogs as an advantage to correct the lab's behavior. As an example, I watched as she trained our hound dog to stay. When I tried, I couldn't get more than a few feet away before he would break. Within a couple minutes she had him stay and was able to move 30 feet away and he still didn't break until she told him to. Jennifer has never worked with a hound dog before, but she said she loves a challenge. Challenge downright conquered. Same thing with the kennel command and many other challenging steps in the process. You might think that Jennifer uses some special or harsh methods. Nope. Jennifer is just smart, very smart, understands what makes a dog tick, knows how to fix problems, and she is nice! So, the answer to the question is yes, I am sure there are many great dog whisperers out there and Jennifer Goodwin is most certainly one of the best. I did watch our lab hunt today.

The adoption process was simple, straightforward, and incredibly informative, which made everything feel comfortable and well-supported from the start. Every donkey there appears healthy, happy, and clearly cherished. What has meant the most to me, though, is the ongoing support I've received since welcoming the girls to their new home. Whenever I have questions, I feel completely comfortable reaching out for help and advice. It's clear that LDS's commitment doesn't end at adoption -- they truly care about these amazing animals and the families who welcome them. Thank you, LDS, for everything you do! Kathy E. Dean, President of this donkey rescue doesn't actually adopt donkeys out to well…read morequalified, loving homes. After doing some research in my community, I learned that very often for unfounded and unsubstantiated reasons Kathy will "close a matter" as she puts it and not allow an adoption to take place. Sadly, I heard a story where a long time volunteer wasn't even allowed to adopt one of these donkeys. One woman I spoke to said, she is aware of over 10 instances were Kathy has done something very similar to potential adopters. This is a very cruel pattern. She truly is doing a disservice to these animals. Her priority is NOT finding these animals loving homes where they are the center of love and attention. Kathy lead me to believe my adoptin was going through. Although I confirmed with my farrier and veterinarian that she never reached out to either one of them for reference. For weeks I was led to believe that this donkey was coming to live at my ranch, I should've known better when she didn't reach out to my references. It's a very unfortunate situation for those who find themselves emotionally invested in their potential adoptee only to have the rug jerked out from under them. If you want to go and see the donkeys or donate be my guest. The donkeys are well cared for, so it appears. The volunteers seem very capable and caring. I had a few questions about the contract and payment method which prompted her to say this "matter is closed". I guess it could have been a worse situation as described to me by other people who have dealt with Kathy. In short I'm not getting my donkey for whatever frivolous and prejudice reason she came up with. I spent 20 years in broadcasting as a TV journalist in major markets and have worked with countless rescues and animal shelters, never have I had an experience that was so disheartening and unprofessional as this one. I would say approach this place with the upmost caution if you are looking to adopt a donkey. Kathy will play with your emotions, tug at your heart strings and prevent you from adopting your chosen animal.
