Best donuts in Iowa. If you're craving fresh, classic, and THE FLUFFIEST of donuts don't waste any time reading further and go here now. Seriously- I've tried a lot of donuts and this place is the best I've had in Iowa and top 3 donut places I've been to, hands down. I'm a lover of the OG, classic glazed donut so this review is in tribute to them. If you're feeling adventurous definitely try the blueberry fritter. It's filled with delicious blueberry jam with real, whole blueberries! Writing this review is making me hungry again...gonna go eat another donut now.

Small donut shop with limited selection- but they do it well. The Bavarian cream is amazing, the strawberry cheesecake also delicious- but the simple cake donut will be what I go back for- perfect coffee donut! Little pricey to pick your own Dozen, so let them do it for $15. They do have Gluten free dairy free donuts- 4 for $7.

Finally, an actual bakery in Waterloo, IA!!! This bakery is across from the famous Bryans on 4th and Volks Haus. If you love Rockets formally known as LPC Bakery in La Porte City then you will LOVE this place. When my husband and I ventured out to Rockets on a early Sunday morning, it was packed with almost 10 groups ahead of us in line!! As we were eagerly anticipating a doughnut, we noticed the gals at the counter were continuously replacing the empty trays with new bakery items. It was a definite reassurance that their products are made fresh and in house. I even got to peak in the back kitchen to see they were glazing their cinnamon rolls. Watching them glaze the cinnamon rolls and putting them out in front of me while I was in the middle of ordering was great persuasion. We bought glazed doughnuts, a cinnamon roll, a peanut butter and jelly doughnut, a cinnamon sugar and a cinnamon twist. They were so warm, soft, and fluffy when we purchased them. I have had a hard time finding a bakery around here that actually sells FRESH cinnamon rolls [A STAPLE]! It is safe to say Rockets is a must-try in Waterloo, IA. And for the curious, yes the peanut butter and jelly doughnut is a 10 out of 10.

Little diamond in the rough. Simple and too the point bakery. They do not try and be anything else. The doughnuts are awesome. Maybe the best I have had. Price is really affordable, cheaper than that big grocery chain! Located right in the heart of downtown Waterloo Iowa. Easy access to parking. I've stopped 2 times now and had to wait in a short line both times. Not a long wait at all though. Go here, go here, go here.. It's Delish!

Apple Fritters on a full sized dinner plate.

Rockets Bakery has excellent donuts and rolls. Each time I have visited everything has been fresh and delicious. My favorites are the Bavarian cream filled Bismarcks and the apple fritters. The apple fritters are huge with large chunks of apple. This is definitely an above average bakery.

Fantastic beer selection. Excellent food. Reasonable prices. Single speed checks all the boxes!…read more I've stopped at Single Speed several times when passing through, and always enjoyed the experience. The flatbread is huge--at least two meals' worth--as are the salads. Beer's available in full pours, half pours, and flights, so it's easy to sample a few in one sitting. And don't miss the specials--especially inventive soups. There's plenty of seating options, too--a nice patio, bar stools, and a couple rooms full of tables and booths. Cheers!

There is ample space inside and out, and it's all very open and clean, though the inside dining areas are separated into large rooms, which I think would help with noise control when it's busy. We visited around 7:45 on a Friday evening in August and found it remarkably not crowded, but they have another location in Cedar Falls that probably draws a larger crowd. We were at the Waterloo location, which probably caters to a lot of business people and business travelers during the week. We ordered a lot of food for two people, and it was all excellent, but I rate this cool place four stars because all the food came out of the kitchen at once and we were totally overwhelmed. If it had been paced, I think we could have pulled it off, and as travelers, we couldn't really take leftovers with us to have another day. Our server was extremely helpful and patient helping me understand their beverage selections. I enjoy a good cocktail or a glass of good wine, but my beer tastes are even more limited, but SingleSpeed offered up the perfect solution: the SingleSpeed-a-rita. This is made with their Ring Around the Gose, tequila, agave, and lime juice. That hit the spot on a hot Friday night in Iowa!

Ok I tend to be a bbq critic but I love driving around the country and in my random lunch stops…read morereview a place. Unbiased but tough. Atmosphere- very busy in design, but actually not overdone for a quick stop in or small group of 5-10 people. I stopped in on a random Saturday about 6pm by myself. There were many occupying the outdoor space so it was easy to get in and go. Prolly seats 60-80 at FULL capacity but 20 occupied was nice. There's so much to take you in to look at design wise. They did a good job setting it up. Food- what you came for. I'd say for a random stop, this place was 5 star. I ordered the big sexy burger and didn't do a combo so I could check out the plain sides of meats. It's awesome that they offer a simple ala carte for all their meats but was a little pricey. (Worth it- good portion). The burger had a good smoky flavor and the brisket added to it. It's a great option. In regards to the meats I ordered the burnt ends and the pork. Usually I find places like this don't even offer Burnt ends at the end of the day because they do limited amounts. They said no problem and always have some ready which was good. However I was surprised to find them already sauced (why?). I thought it seemed a bit tough and very broken down with bits of hard in it. Not hard bits of bark, but like "we always have it available and stir it up to keep it fresh" hard with stringy meat mixed in. It was a bit chewy in places and there was huge unrendered fat pieces as well. But I will say there was good flavor there and it wasnt dry (2-3 stars) Now the pork......this was the best thing there. It was seasoned right, has good texture and was moist with great flavor. Unsauced and you can see the smoke ring and has bits of bark too. Seasoning is flavorful (more savory and not pepper or spicy). The pork gets 5 stars. Also of note was the corn bread which was pretty good too . I hate super dry cornbread and this was not. Overall the food was above average to great. Can't say it will consistently be that way and the burnt ends need work but everything else was borderline exceptional enough to win me over. Service- probably the most lacking issue. The high school kid that brought up my order didn't care to even look at me and called my number and looked at his phone. Not that simple "order up" is hard but that's just the overall vibe from everyone. The spunky order taker was clearly the bubbly personality and was nice but she glanced me over when asking questions. It was clear that I told them I was just passing thru, loved to experience new Q and asked for a recommendation. She was helpful and said her favorite was the turkey but didn't really want to engage more. And the restroom had not been cleaning for a bit. See the pic for the reference . I'd honestly say it's a great place despite all my negativity. Owners clearly put in the right efforts to set it up and the food is mostly great. I'd recommend maybe they need a little help with the brisket and maybe a jolt of motivation to find good workers to keep the service up but if they could do that, this place has potential to be top 5 of all the places I've been with BBQ. Happy travels!

There's a Kum & Go that's pretty creepy all the way up the street, but aside from that, you have to get off of San Marten to get any gas. As I'm someone who comes to the mall pretty often, I was glad to see this new gas station pop up. This gas station is also equipped with a car wash station. It's a very new building with a ton of gas pumps to match. However, despite just opening less than a month ago, three of the gas pumps were out of order. I had to actually wait in a line to get gas during the middle of a day on Thursday - which is something that has never happened to me. On the bright side, I guess it means that Waterloo really could have used this gas station. For those that don't want to worry about turning directly into, or out of, the gas station onto busy San Marten, Kwik-Star's parking lot directly connects to the Super Target parking lot, so you'll be able to get out in an indirect way that goes directly to a stoplight for an easier time getting back onto San Marten. Overall, it's definitely an awesome place for a gas station, and it's clear that it's new and clean. I was surprised to find that things were out of order already, and I was surprised to see quite so many people. Maybe people wouldn't have been waiting in line if all of the pumps were up - who knows? Either way, I'll be back.
