I purchased an OEM part because it was advertised as a genuine OEM part. However, the item I received was a fake Chinese aftermarket part, not an OEM part as described. I needed a fluid pump, torque converter, torque converter seal, transmission pump, torque converter solenoid, valve body. That was ten years ago. To this day, car is still going strong. All from rockauto parts. Other parts I ordered for my current vehicle are: power steering pump, power steering pressure hose, front sway bay links, front lower ball joints. Those orders were 4-8 years old. To this day, those parts are still going strong. All from rockauto parts. I was shocked to read some of the mostly negative reviews on here....UNTIL MY LATEST EXPERIENCES. First issue I had with a Rockauto order is they sent me the wrong power steering pump. I was ready to do the job. Then I looked at pump and realized that it was the incorrect one. So I didnt touch my vehicle. I contacted rockauto through their online system. They sent me a return label through email. I returned part. Once they got delivery confirmation of returned part, they sent correct pump. I got it. Installed it in vehicle. I think that whole process took about ten days. After installation of correct pump, I returned core. They credited my account for core. That was my experience with returning an incorrect item and getting the correct one. My current order arrived in one day. I used regular UPS. The reason it arrived within one day is it was shipped from a local warehouse in Pico Rivera. All items arrived in perfect new condition. Some were: Felpro oil pan gasket Motorcraft oil filter 3 Dorman oil pan drain plugs/gaskets (so I can have spares) 2 Walker upstream oxygen sensors (for bank 1 & bank 2) A separate order was a water pump If I wouldve bought these same exact namebrand items from Oreilly, Autozone, etc., I wouldve paid almost double what I was charged at Rockauto. But I would have been able to return them for a full refund if I received another cheaper brand in the box of the brand I purchased. Thats what happened with my water pump order. I ordered a gates water pump. But received a $15 cheaper US Motor Works branded water pump, with zinc-coated impeller. Gates water pump doesn't have zinc-coated impeller. US Motor Works part number is stamped directly on the water pump. Rockauto doesn't have over the phone human customer service. Which is ok. So I went through the returns menu on rockauto website. It still didn't want to issue a full refund. What is not ok is: They wanted to give me a refund of 1/2 of shipping costs with my part refund. So I emailed rockauto at the email support. They contacted me the next day. But said: "We apologize if the part you received is not what you expected. Sometimes manufacturers buy parts from other manufacturers and re-sell them as their own. In doing so, they declare the quality of the part worthy of their name and stand behind the product with their warranty. We understand it can be frustrating to find a different brand part inside the box, but please understand that we do not have control over manufacturer supply chains. If you disagree with the manufacturer's purchasing decision, you may return the part for a refund of the part cost...." Now they wanted to refund me the price for the returned part only. No refund on shipping for sending me a cheaper part thats listed on their website. The cheaper part was shipped inside the original box of the part I ordered! Avoid them. I ordered a Standard Motor Products turn signal switch for $76.79. There is a Rostra turn signal switch on the site listed for $51.79. I received the Rostra switch in a SMP box. Rockauto told me that sometimes the manufacturer sources products from other companies and sells them as their own and that they have no control over the supply chain. I just wanted the $24 difference. They refused. Several issues here: - I did not order any turn signal switch that Standard Motor Products determines is a switch that they claim. I ordered a specific part number. - I did not do business with the manufacturer. I did business with Rockauto to procure the part that was ordered. - Customer support did not address the underlying issue and just said that it is a SMP product (again not THE SMP product ordered) and that they could not refund. Let me preface I have order from RockAuto before without issue. That said, my last experience requires me to leave this review. An extra digit was somehow entered into my shipping address. I was notified that there may a delivery problem and advised to contact the carrier. Carrier (UPS) stated they could not update the address and that I had to contact the sender. RockAuto stated I had the shipper. What concerns me is that my phone number was required but no one called me. The fault may ultimately be with UPS as they did not attempt to research an address that did not exist and did not even give it to the local delivery person (who I am familar with). UPS sent it straight back without even attempting to deliver or the slightest attempt at remedy. As it was "returned to sender" to RockAuto, I was able to be refunded the amount of the products purchased - minus the shipping cost. This could have been a great experience if they provided a live customer connection. I ordered two headlight housings, 2 ballasts and all bulbs. The housings had the wrong ballast plugs rendering them useless. I didn't want to risk returning them and have to pay for return shipping which costs $208. I know I ordered the correct headlight housings so reordering them would result in them shipping the same ones with the wrong plugs. This major problem means that I will not ever deal with Rock Auto again. I ordered a CARB catalytic converter for my 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe. The part arrived rattling around in the torn cardboard box with no packing, but appeared to have no physical damage. Comparing the old and new front catalytic converter appeared to be identical. However the AO number engraved on the new Catalytic converter (D-698-7) does not match the part number (771321). Should be (D-698-9). Due to this manufacturer defect, I have a $700 catalytic converter that RockAuto will not honor the warranty and replace. My vehicle will not pass California smog.
