Man. Oh man. Boy did we come on off day or what ?!?! First the address listed is not the actual address the restaurant is located at. It's moved into a shopping center close to the Arena. When we got there - there was a large table about 12-16 that looked like they'd been there awhile since their they all had drinks and orders where not taken while we were there. There was also another large table (10-12) that had left since it was evidenced by all the dirty plates and cups left behind. I hoped that it wasn't an omen for our experience to come. We sat at an available table that had extra glasses and unexplainable crumbs which were picked up. We waited for the rest of our party (2) for about 15 minutes and I noticed a couple of other tables filling up. I also noticed that there were no plates being delivered to the large table. Hmmmm. Red flag. We got our coffees while we waited. We then ordered- chilaquiles, 2 tacos, 2 huevos rancheros plates. While we wait for over an hour, I finally start seeing one and two plates being delivered to that large table. I thought - man we are in trouble. During this time at least one table walked out. And still people were coming and all waiting. And waiting and waiting. By the time we got our food it was close to an hour and a half, the chilaquiles were lukewarm at best and the tacos were served in reheated tortillas. I know those- it's when the flour tortilla ends up getting on the crispy side. Sent the chilaquiles back and did not reorder. How can you serve it to a customer when the cheese has been melted and they waited too long that the cheese cooled and congealed. We were patient but damnnnnnnn an hour and a half for a Mexican breakfast. Yikes! Maybe they didn't expect the large parties or maybe one of the cooks called in. But daaaaaanggg... waiting for almost an hour and a half for food.... not sure what to say about that.... please someone let me know if their turnaround times from order to delivery improves. read more

Great food! Great service! Amazing portions! Very affordable! I was traveling with a group of about 30 people and I needed to find a place that was friendly with groups and that had good options under $15. Luckily I found this place on yelp and I couldn't have been more pleased. I made a reservation and I had to change the time, they had no problem with this and accommodated for us. When we got there, they had a table ready and welcomed us in a friendly fashion. They quickly came and took our orders and started handing out plates quick. The food was great! Several people got different plates since a lot of their options are under $15 and none of them had regrets. The portions were huge and I can honestly say the have the best fish tacos I have ever had. Hands down! You HAVE to try them! read more

Excellent Mexican food, a bit on the spicy side but not too much. Had beef fajitas with a crispy taco and enchiladas from the menu. Very attentive wait staff. Everything tasted home made! Rocha's moved to a new location next to the Arena Gun Club. I think the tables are too small and the dining room not as comfortable as their old building. The food is still very good. I enjoyed the barbacoa plate and the service was great. read more

To go orders are always incomplete! I use to order often but stopped then I tried again. The wait staff is often in a terrible mood ( the women). I dinned in several times & the last my party walked out since service was beyond slow & no excuse because there was only 1 person eating. Well, I ordered to go & AGAIN my order incomplete. Please see pictures. The salad dressing, garlic bread, & gravy missing. The waittress assured me order was complete after after she tripple knotted the bag tight. Easily my favorite restaurant of all time. My personal favorite plate is the Tex-Mex enchiladas with guisado de res. Rochas has the best enchiladas in Laredo don't even argue with me. The wait for food can sometimes be a little long, but you can't rush perfection. read more

Really neat space in the first floor of a hotel. Good service and nice fideo soup to start the meal. I got the puffy tacos which were pretty tasty if a bit bland (ground beef was a bit under-seasoned) and bizarre (there were chopped up dill pickles mixed with the ground beef). Things were livened up by the intensely spicy habanero hot sauce and lime served alongside the meal. My brother got a spicy bean taco which was actually fantastic so I would try that when I go back to El Catan. read more

This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend of ours and we're glad we listened. The Catan (alligator gar)was delicious, cooked to perfection and paired with an amazing homemade slaw and fresh fluffy handmade tortillas. Although the cost of a few menu items is a bit intimidating price wise there are plenty of selections for the budget cautions person. I had the puffy Tacos and my husband had the chicken fried steak half order (it's huge!). My plate (puffy tacos) were accompanied by rice and beans. The rice was a bit aldente but the flavor was not bland over all it was very good. My husband's plate (chicken fried) was accompanied by fries, lettuce, and a piece of toast. The fries were not crispy at all just limp but the chicken fried was delish. The cleanliness was a bit messy. The floor had straw wrappers and sugar packets lying around. What a nice surprise when we entered this place and saw white tablecloths on the tables, it was the beginnings of a good eating experience. This place is within walking distance of the Federal Courthouse and since we were on our Jury lunch break we gave it a try. The service was quick and attentive, we all ordered the Puffy Tacos and they were delicious and plentiful, you get three tacos filled with Picadillo, lettuce, tomato and grated cheese, Rice and Beans, this also was served with a mini portion of Fideo soup. Excellent flavor on all the dishes. The Habanero sauce was also a good addition to the tacos. Will definitely return to try the other items on the menu. I was rather disappointed last night. My husband and I went for dinner last night not knowing it was the grand opening. Great! We love Rochas downtown. It was good to see the turnout! The problem started when we sat down. First not one waiter came to take our order we had to flag one down. Next we were informed that only appetizers were being served. No problem we ordered the puffy nachos. One hour later we were still waiting and we always had to flag a waiter to refill our drinks. Next after asking about our order the waiter that initially took it forgot!! Meanwhile the couple next to us got the royal treatment because they were friends of Mr Rocha who came and took their order personally. Customer service is seriously lacking at Rocha's. A Cafe attached to an old hotel. Service was slow but complete (I was the only customer there for most of the time.) . Puffy nachos were puffy chips with some cheese and a jalapeño slice. Not bad, just not exciting. Puffy tacos were very oily and not that flavorful. Rice and beans were very good. Prices were high for the meal. Parking was initially hard. A nostalgic restaurant located in the historic Hamilton hotel with a stocked bar for quiet drink or a quick dinner. Serving excellent portions of great food. Go-to menudo spot! The other dishes are alright. The menudo is in a class of its own--second only to my uncle's menudo. You want home-made and quality? You've found it. We went twice, once for dinner and again for breakfast. The dinner crowd was packed but we still got great service. My husband's enchilada and carne guisada plate was delicious and I got the chicharron de catan (fried alligator gar) which was so good that my husband ate half my plate, which was fine because I ate half of his. A couple days later we got breakfast, huevos a la mexicana and the chilaquiles. If I could figure out their recipe for chilaquiles I would die happy. I'd eat it every week if I lived in Laredo. Portions are huge, prices are good. It seems these days to be BYOB--people did at dinner. Breakfast is especially recommended here. They serve it all day, so you really can't lose! read more

One of the interesting meats on the menu is the Alligator Gar (catan). The Alligator Gar Tacos were overstuffed with fried Gar and mixed slaw on a very nice corn tortilla. I thought that I knew what a corn tortilla was , until I came to Laredo, and these are some of the best I've had going out to eat in Laredo. I had asked for it to come with fries , and the fries were awesome. I love floppy steak fries like these , they are so hard to find. We actually started with fried avocado, they were surprisingly very good. They come with a light battered crust and hot , enough for four people . They give you a light green salsa to put on them , together with lime and a little pepper it is a nice hot , creamy, and slightly crunchy treat. The portions here are a little large for me, but everything was fresh and good. It was not very busy, which I don't mind, and our food came out fast. I like old buildings , and this made a nice setting for a cozy little restaurant. I like Mexican food a lot , but it was nice to find something a little different in Laredo. read more

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this is not the place. If you are looking for homemade Tex-mex food with a bigger leaning towards mexican then this is the place. The chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak is done in the American style, but still good. Tacos are too expensive, but the corn tortillas are homemade.
