Well, we were very excited to see a new Mexican place opening up and went several days after it opened. The agave on the sign had me expecting a good margarita. Ambience was good as you'd expect from a new place. Service was slow as they were slammed and working the kinks out. What matters to me is the food and the margaritas, in that order. The menu did not get me excited .... Americanized Mexican food .... we ordered two margaritas and were disappointed. The food was just OK. Wife had fajitas and they were smaller and not as good as other local places. The beans were good. Hard to justify driving past El Charro to come here again (although the margaritas are not great there either, the food is much better). I'm still bummed Alejandros in Radford closed as Antonio would make fantastic Cadillac margaritas. I will say that I prefer what I'd call authentic Mexican food. Menudo and tongue tacos on a menu make me happy. YMMV ... if you like Americanized Mexican you might love this place. read more

This was the first time that we got a chance to eat here. Henry was our server. The time that we came in was pretty late so it was not busy. We ordered our food. The first thing that was incorrect was that only one person asked for water and it was water with lemon (my friend didn't get her water with lemon until after she had to ask for a refill). It was taking a while for our food to come out and we had ordered an appetizer. We had to request for our appetizer a second time. The server stated that the paper (ran out) to where it was cut off the receipt ( so he had to literally re-put it in the system). It finally came and then two of the three orders. I was the first person to order and my server completely forgot my order. Then he said that they were going to make my order and that he was going to pay for it. I specifically ordered a giant burrito, with steak cooked medium with no pico de gallo (allergic to tomatoes) and for the beans to be black beans. Not only did he completely forget my order but I also got the wrong burrito ( it was chicken, with pico de Gallo and retried beans). Not the most welcoming atmosphere when arriving mid-afternoon for a drink. This is clearly a family restaurant in that there were multiple children of the staff sitting at the bar. The bartender was very nervous about making a margarita and couldn't believe I wasn't just sitting at the bar to order take-out. My margarita was too enormous to truly enjoy the tequila although the fresh squeezed juice was a huge plus. Went here last week for lunch with my co-workers. We were there when they opened.Everything was fast,hot and fresh. They also kept our drinks refilled and the chips and dips. I've visited this restaurant more times than I can remember. First, the last visit was this past May 5th. The service was exceptional, fast, courteous, and unexpected. The unexpected is the amount of seating they had, in preparation of the day. Every visit before has been the same. A warm welcome with great service. They promptly serve your chips and salsa, take your orders. The food always comes out quick and tastes great! The price is just what you would expect for Mexican food. I've been there with just me and my wife, or a party of 4, and one time a party of 12 and each one, no matter the size of the group, the service never faltered. P.S. I was so unbelievably excited to try out this restaurant especially because i'm a BIG fan of mexican food. The service was trash. The food did not coordinate with the price at all. The servings were not nearly as much as the waiter and menu specified. I didn't want guacamole so I asked to substitute it with sour cream (sour cream doesn't cost nearly as much as guac) he said that's fine and I made sure to ask if there was no extra charge and there wasn't; supposedly. When the bill came the a different waiter brought it to me because our waiter just ended his shift. I saw that I was charged for the sour cream ($1-which is not the problem). The problem was the fact that I told the new waiter what the last waiter said and he replied, "I cant do anything about that" and snatch the check out of my hand. The worst part about this is I called and complained and whomever I spoke to said, "well, all I can do is apologize", with the most unapologetic voice. I went to the Rocas page and emailed the "contact us" email...not one reply back. Their service sucks, food is too modernized for "Mexican food", and they have a lack of care for their customers. For sure not going back, and non of my friends have after this matter of unprofessionalism. read more

This place is ok, not great. I ordered a margarita on the rocks - there was zero, and I mean zero, tequila in it. My dinner came with a house salad. The salad was fine, just a basic salad, but I was ok with that. After a few bites I realized it didn't have any dressing. When I pointed that out to our waiter he said it was served that way and offered to bring me French, Italian, etc. they don't have house dressing and he brought me a packet of Ken's dressing. There are pluses and minuses to this restaurant. First, the interior is not the cheesy interior many Mexican restaurants have. Yesterday, however, the air conditioning was virtually nonexistent. When my husband asked our server if the air conditioning was out, he said, "According to my manager, no." There was something definitely wrong because employees and customers were all visibly hot. I asked if they had a substitute for their regular chips since my daughter is extremely gluten intolerant, he said no. I can understand this. However, when I asked about the ingredients in the white sauce, he told me he was not able to share. I explained that my daughter could become very ill. He kindly shrugged and said he would have to ask his manger. Of course, he came back and told me he could not tell me the ingredients. I said, "Can you ask, is there something in it with gluten?" He went ask again to ask and I saw the manager shake his head yes. If I had pushed, she could have become very ill. The margaritas were too sweet and I really wondered if there there was any tequila at all. There were six in our group. Three were presented their food more than five minutes before the three remaining meals arrived. We all noticed the gentleman delivering the meals appeared either bored, hated his job or very unhappy about something personally. The food was tasty and satisfying. This is the shame of this restaurant...good food, lackluster atmosphere and a lackadaisical attitude regarding food allergies. This restaurant has potential but I suspect the owner/management is the genesis of the negative aspects of this restaurant. read more

The night we went it was packed. We got seated pretty quickly though considering. We were given a complimentary basket of nachos. It was pretty on the light side. Yes, I know its free but other places I've gone my family and I have been given 2 and sometimes 3 of these. The salsa was good however. I was not a fan of the other dip they brought but that could just be personal preference. The food though was tasty and hot, so they were getting all that food out fast. ROCAS - Grilled Chicken salad - Mexican Near Me - Radford, Virginia

I travel a lot and one of my things is to try each localities Mexican food. If you've read some of my other reviews, i come from the Tex-Mex border and this is the style of food I grew up with. Tonight I sat at the bar, just next to the cash register/order input system. This also placed me near the entrance to the kitchen. Bottom line, up front - this place has legit Mexican food and Mexican workers. I saw every dish that came out of the kitchen - all appeared fresh. I asked the server to give me whatever their most popular or signature dish was. Got a T bone with rice and a salad with guacamole. Tortillas on the side. Lots of chips and dips too (free). It was so tasty, my plate was completely clean by the end of my meal. The place was packed and the servers were expertly managing the tables and kept the place running like a well oiled machine. Everyone was friendly, food was great, Amole parking. Clean and colorful decor - not that old 1970's hang a Mexican sombrero and poncho on the walls stuff. Plate presentation was good too. Hard pressed to think of anything negative about my experience at Rocas. I'll return if ever back in town. EZ Five Stars. read more

Had to wait in line due to a large party. Ordered both non alcoholic drinks and alcoholic drinks. Service was good and quick. Between five of us we ordered a nice variety of food.
