The experience and atmosphere I received at rocas was very special. The service by the waiters and staff is fantastic and are very efficient. The food came out from the kitchen quite quickly and it tasted like an authentic Mexican meal. I had the quesadillas with shrimp, chicken, steak, and peppers and it was a great meal. So I tried this new restaurant in town, week two of their open. I sat at the bar for 15 minutes and no one said anything to me so l left. Tried it again tonight as they have been open a few months at this point. Much better in terms of being acknowledged...but they were really slow. Bartender was friendly and made some good recommendations. I asked for a tall beer ... I was given a 32oz huge beer. Probably should have mentioned the size as most places tall is 20-22oz. They served me chips and salsa and a spicy ranch dip- the salsa was good but the ranch was weird, heavy mayo base. I ended up ordering a grilled taco salad with chicken it was good not great. So in my opinion overall this place is just that, good not great. read more

We've been to the Cross Lanes location and love it, but this was our first visit to the Charleston spot. The restaurant itself is beautiful, really clean and well designed. The hostess that greeted us was young, but got us to our table fast with menus, and immediately brought us chips & salsa. When other tables finished eating, she was right there cleaning up-you do not see that everywhere. The bar looks cool and the bartender was interacting with customers and everyone was having a good time. Our server was Sarah T and she was great! Came out to greet us fast, brought drinks quickly, and kept checking on us throughout the meal. The food came out in perfect time and was delicious! Our entire visit was probably 45min-it was a shopping day, we were there to eat & run-and we had a great experience in that short time. We'll definitely be back to this location and look forward to spending more time and enjoying more of their delicious food & drinks! read more

Best Mexican food around!!!! A variety of dishes that other Mexican restaurants don't offer. Salsa tastes super fresh and I love their white seasoned dip. Chorripollo, rice and beans very good, chicken dry with charcoaled places-basically burnt and over cooked, Chorizo more charcoal than sausage-extremely burnt, and not nearly enough cheese dip on chicken and chorizo, pineapple good. Server very nice, just too busy. I will return, just excepted more. Biggest disappointment was the chorizo charcoal. Slecond visit much better. Still very crowded, but this time food was excellent. Third visit again very good. 4 stars again. Only one slight complaint carne asada somewhat over cooked. Everything else very good. Waiter fabulous. Restaurant very clean. Staff friendly. read more

I ate here a couple days after they opened. The service was fairly quick although not always attentive. The decor is nice, with a more upscale feel. The tables are all a stone or faux stone and look nice. I enjoyed the salsa, for me it was a nice level of spice and a fair amount of cilantro. They also served a white sauce to dip the chips. We ordered the queso as well, it was really runny and ran off the chips making it hard to eat. The flavor was fairly bland to me. My wife got the fish tacos and we both enjoyed them. The seasoning was great, giving the tacos a lot of flavor. I got the taco, enchilada, and rice. The rice was ok, the taco was about the same the flavor just wasnt there, but the enchiladas weren't bad. Overall it was an average Tex-Mex dish. Next time I will likely get one of the more specialty dishes. Hopefully they will be more like the quality and flavor of the fish tacos. read more

I went on a Saturday at 1:45pm with two other people. There were people sitting at roughly 6 other tables - not crowded at all. It took close to an hour for our food to come out and when it did, it was awful. My taco salad bowl was burnt and I had approximately 1 Tbsp of beef in the bowl, the rest of it was lettuce and sour cream. My daughter ordered chicken fajita nachos and her chips were burnt. My daughter's friend ordered a fish taco and a side salad. Her taco wasn't bad but her side salad came out when the bill was brought out. Not just slow but also aloof service. We had two tables of 6 directly next to each other. There was absolutely no coordination on the servers part to get drinks and food ordered for both tables around the same time. This resulted in 1 table getting drinks 20 minutes before the other and 1 table getting food 40 minutes before the other. Speaking of food, the chips are bland and need a ton of salt, the hot salsa is hot for the sake of being hot and lacks actual good flavors, and the items they provide are not the items they advertise. I ordered "Quesadilla Rellena - A flour tortilla stuffed with cheese, beans and choice of chicken or mushrooms. Topped with lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, tomatoes and sour cream." and I received a quesadilla with only mushrooms and cheese on a bare plate with absolutely nothing else. Where was the lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, on top and where were the beans inside? I asked about this and was told those items didn't come with my order... very interesting considering I just quoted the menu. read more

Food was good, not great. Service was slow and fair. For dessert we ordered the key lime pie but flagged down the Mgr as it was served completely frozen. We asked for it to be taken away and taken off our bill but the Mgr instructed our server to microwave it and give it back to us instead. A microwaved key lime pie. Disgusting! We were a party of six and we were welcomed with a smile and they were very cordial. We had just sat down and our server came over and asked what we wanted to drink and we weren't ready yet so I told her to come back and she acted so put off. We waited for 10 minutes before she came back and her attitude was not pleasant at all. She took our drink order and left before I could tell her that we wanted some cheese dip. We finally ordered it when she brought us our drinks. The cheese dip came and it was very runny. We ordered our meal and it looked like it was thrown together and some of us did not have a good thing to say about the food. We were very disappointed. I hope it improves over time because the place has potential. The food definitely did not look like the pictures. I ordered the Veracruz and the fish in the picture was a beautiful filet of fish and what I received was a strip of fish. The fish had good taste but very disappointed in the presentation. I don't know if we will return and if we do, it will be in six months and maybe by then it will be better and the server has obtained a better attitude. read more
