Take the stars in context. This is an American Mexican restaurant. It is not traditional, it is not Tex-Mex, and it is not Taco Bell. What it is is a damn fine representation of what it is trying to do. The complementary chips and salsa are surprisingly good, with the chips served warm and the salsa having a nice little bit of heat. The mains were unexpectedly good. Honestly, my bar was pretty low for Mexican food in WV. My Acapulco Cheesesteak was a gooey, sloppy delicious mess of grilled steak and onions swimming in a lagoon of lightly spiced queso sauce. The refried beans were excellent and may very well have been scratch-made. The Carne Asada was similar to the cheesesteak, just minus the cheese. The guac that came with wasn't bad at all. They serve Texas margaritas and I've seen smaller soup bowls. The regular size was more than enough and plenty strong. The staff is friendly and the restaurant looks like it might have once been a Chili's/Shoney's/Friday's etc. Plenty of parking, though, and a very short walk from the nearby motels. read more

Just average. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Too many other choices around to settle for average food.

Being honest went here 2 days to try different food and both times I was disappointed disappointed.. chips and salsa wer good. Asada, chicken, shrimp fries. Didn't have shrimp ?? The girl said I'll bring it out for u in a bit. By the time she did I was already done with me food :( next day we had carnitas plate and the food was cold cold the waiter went to re warm it up and wen he brought it back out the carnitas wer hot from the outside and cold inside and kinda raw. I sent it back and had a steak ranchera with pico de gallo but wen it came no pico de gallo just mole ;( Overall horrible food with horrible slow service to be honest. Nothing authentic about this place. The place is well decorate and feels authentic. Only reason I gave it 2 stars was because decorations and chips and salsa. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. I am of Mexican descent but not from WV, we came from FL to visit family and they brought us to eat dinner here. I only took a picture of my michelada but it was delicious. The food was really good. I got the flautas but with corn tortillas and tastes authentic. Five stars for me on the food. read more

Food was amazing. Burrito bowl and a quesadilla. Fast cook time. The server was quick, but seemed aggressive with her questions and responses. I'm not sure if it was a bad day or if that's her personality. Either way it put us on edge a tad. read more

Had dinner here on a whim because place was packed. We ordered the beef fajitas and they were great. We were greeted promptly and sat, got our chips and drinks in record time. The waiter kept up with our drink refills and checked on us several times. Thanks to the great food and wonderful service, we will be back! read more

Big portions! Good service! Great food! Yummy drinks! My husband & I highly recommend!!!

Since we have moved back from Nashville, we have eaten here three times...all three times happy customers!!! Lovely inside, roomy and large. Great friendly staff...food good, service good and prices good. I have gotten something different each time, and I enjoy their fish tacos. Love their salsa, I could drink it....very good! I can taste the cilantro and I love love love that!!! Definitely recommend and can't wait to enjoy again and again!!! read more

Fast, friendly service & amazing food. I haven't eaten out much since covid, but this is my go to spot for when I decide to do "carry-out". Definitely recommended. read more

Driving in from Ohio, we stopped at Dunbar, WV on our way to Williamsburg, VA. We stopped at Los Agaves which was pretty close to the hotel at which we stayed. Whitney was our server and she was super positive and provided excellent service. We even discovered a Columbus, Ohio connection! The food was terrific. Mom had the Chicken fajitas, I had the chicken quesadilla and Dad had a burrito that had delicious shrimp in it. The food was all tasty and warm. Recommend the queso blanco. Yum! Plenty of chips and they were happy to bring more, or at least offer to bring more, before we ran out. Other staff was super friendly and very welcoming to a first-timer / out-of-towner just passing through. Thanks for the great hospitality! Covid protocol: People were pretty good about wearing masks though a few wore it below the nose which is a pet peeve. (Where I come from in Columbus, OH, we still have mask mandates, so I feel weird if I'm ever indoors and see someone without it.) read more

Had dinner here for the first time in a while. They still have the same fast and friendly service that I remember and they brought our chips and salsa out immediately. The chips seemed a little stale, but there was a lot of fresh cilantro in the salsa, so that was pretty tasty. My husband and I both ordered the Pollo Loco, grilled chicken covered in melted queso blanco with rice, beans, and tortillas on the side. The chicken was seasoned ok, but it was a little on the dry side. The tortillas, as expected, were soft and warm. The beans and rice were basically like at every other Mexican restaurant. My husband gives them 3.5 stars. I would say the same. While nothing was bad, exactly, nothing really made our dinner stand out from most other Mexican restaurants I've been to. read more

Great chicken wings....yes, a mexican spot with awesome chicken wings. By themselves the chicken wings are 5 stars! The pineapple shrimp tacos are a must try, very delicious. Was not a fan of the quesillda over stuffed with meat and not enough cheese. Next time I will try the fried shrimp chimichangas and 5 flavor margarita. The service was super quick and the staff was okay. read more

We love los agaves. Have never had a negative experience here! Incredible food, great staff, mostly clean atmosphere.

You really get what you pay for, I got the 7 dollar lunch meal, taco, rice and a burrito, that was a good ass meal for 7 dollars man. This place is pretty good, it your on a road trip looking for a good place to get lunch, go here. Also, I went in at about 1pm , wasn't too busy and the service was pretty fast, also friendly and good staff. So once agian, go here for a nice casual lunch, it's pretty nice. read more

Nice friendly place to eat. Family friendly and plenty of inside and outside seating. The staff are friendly and professional. The food was good. I ordered the chicken fajitas. There was plenty of chicken as you can see from the photo and it was an order for one. The chips and salsa were good and the salsa has a little spice but perfect amount. The fajita could have used a bit more flavor but overall the food was very good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Los Agaves - Beer menu - Mexican Near Me - Dunbar, West Virginia

This place was delicious. Rivals most of the places I've enjoyed in STL! If I come through the Charleston area again, I will be back!

Solid-quality Mexican food and very good prices. I had the Chile Colorado, which I thought was at least somewhat unique, but then again I don't eat much meat and have never had Ranchera sauce. It was a lot of food. Get an appetizer and you could probably split it with someone. Or just gluttonously stuff yourself like I did. The meal, plus a big-sized imported beer cost a bit more than $15 including tax and tip. Not bad! I like how they seem to be building a chain of Mexican restaurants in former Shoney's locations. Not sure if the one in Parkersburg is also in a former Shoney's but this one and the one in South Charleston are. Another really great plus is that there is live music there on certain nights. They tend to have grizzled dudes playing solo versions of classic songs. It gives the place a roadhouse feel that I like. read more

The food here was excellent and for a great price. Great prices and your typical mexican restaurant menu. Rice and beans are stellar. The margarita rock. Love it read more

First time visiting here yesterday. We sat at the bar. We were going to do just drinks but then decided to get food as well. Service was very attentive and friendly. Our server went on break but she did let us know. We had two others servers taking care of us while she was gone. All three did great. Wish I would've caught all their names. If it helps we were there from about 1-3pm. We had the lunch chimichanga, 1/2 order of nachos and a cheese dip to start. All the food we ordered was very good and came out nice and hot! We will be back!! read more

Clean, chips fresh, salsa was good, beer cold, margarita tasty. Went with something different, burrito bowls, we had steak tips and grilled chicken. Both very good. Would have left 5 stars but it was not busy at all and service was a little slow. Will be back. read more

As someone who has celiac disease this restaurant is a great places to go. They serve the best corn tortillas I've tasted in the valley.

Great place to eat. Loved the vegetable fajitas. Best place by far and will definitely be coming back. The chips and salsa were like any other Mexican restaurant. The fresh guacamole was very tasty as well. read more

A call it a typical, average, Mexican restaurant that tries to cater to a good variety of tastes. 3 of us went for lunch. One had a taco salad. She didn't think it was bad, but no better than anywhere else. Myself and another had the Mexican burger which looked awesome, was super messy (which isn't always a bad thing in my book) but surprisingly had little flavor. The block of cheese on it looked like a stick of butter..., interesting but odd. Still price for what you get was average by comparison. Would stop in again but would not make a special trip to dine there. read more

I really liked this restaurant, in a sea of Mexican places this was refreshing and had a lot of American twists. I also was very pleased with the vegetarian options for my best friend (who has been vegetarian for 5 years). The margaritas are really good, on the strong side too. There is live music and a really cool atmosphere to eat chips and get drunk, I would recommend. read more

Love this place! They always get my order right, even though it's somewhat modified from the menu. I've never gotten bad food from this Los Agaves. It is way better than the one in South Charleston. I have had one bad experience here, but it was with a server who went on lunch while he was serving me, but help came right away with another server who noticed me looking around. Very reasonably priced, you get a lot of food. I eat at this restaurant often and it's great. read more

I would give 4.5 stars. My family visited again over Labor Day weekend. It was another great visit and the food was as fast, fresh, and delicious as we experienced a couple of years ago. I had the fajita-chimi's again and my wife revisited the carne asada platter. They were both so good. Service was friendly and left us alone but was still accessible if needed. We will definitely continue to return on our visits to Charleston. read more

Ordered the lunch Numéro 3. Enchilada & taco with rice & beans. Was fabulous. Definitely a must place to eat at if you're in the area. The chips and salsa were so good I got a large order to go, I was concerned after I ordered it since most place charge way to much. My final bill was $13.64. I was full after the number 3. This is absolutely the only Mexican restaurant to dine at in Charleston! Best carnitas I've eaten outside of Mexico!

I tried to call to place a to go order for about 10 minutes prior to walking in. When I got inside, I told the lady maybe her phone isn't working because I had been trying to call. She responded: oh the guy that answers is pooping and has the phone with him in the bathroom. I said excuse me?? She repeated herself with a straight face and clearer dictation as if I hadn't actually heard her. Stunned. Absolutely stunned. read more

MOST HONEST STAFF EVER!! We were travelling through town and stayed at the Dunbar Plaza hotel, which is near this restaurant. Like an idiot, the morning we were leaving, I left my purse on a park bench while my husband & I wandered around the park area with our puppy. The purse was gone when we got back, and needless to say, panic ensued. Long story short, it was picked up by a young man who works at Los Agaves. He touched nothing inside and gave it to his supervisor, who called us from my cell phone. We were so grateful to them both and thanked them profusely. They were incredibly friendly, and we appreciated their honesty beyond words. We didn't get a chance to actually eat there, but any place with folks that AWESOME must be great. read more
