Where I think Rob's Import differentiates service and support from the rest of the car repair services in the area is the use of technology. Glad we found Rob's Import and didn't have to go to the dealership to pay dealership prices to maintain our Beemer. Our 2004 BMW wagon with 220K+ miles had a check engine light, blue smoke on start-up, and a few other minor items needing investigation. If you own an older BMW or Audi or Mini or other import (i.e. out-of-warranty) you know they can be expensive to maintain. And, when repairs are needed, those repair costs can be in the extreme. Called Rob's Import, talked with Bill, described each item going on with the car, and arranged to drop off the Beemer for further diagnostics. A day later a link to pictures of our car with a description of each item and a recommendation on what would need to be fixed arrived via text (and via e-mail). Called back and talked with Bill. Discussed the options for each item identified and agreed on what was needed to ensure the car could run without having to spend a fortune on "the perfect" repair for each and every fault. Was it expensive? Relatively speaking, no. The expectations with blue smoke and a check engine light were possibly $1000's. Was everything wrong with the car fixed? No and that was my choice based on the recommendations given by Rob's Import and the relative severity/risk of failure of each item identified. I know what might be a problem in the future and can keep an eye on it if it gets worse. The diagnostics report with the pictures and the recommendations allowed choices to be made based on cost and value of the repair. The BMW is old. It won't last forever, but the cost of the repairs are a fraction of the value I have for the car. It's still a great car with a lot of high-end features most econo-boxes don't have. Having a local repair shop like Rob's Import that uses technology to show me what is wrong and what to keep an eye on is valuable to me. Rob's did an inspection on a vehicle I really wanted but for which I was going to pay way too much. I was buying over the internet from a dealer hundreds of miles from my house and had no opportunity to inspect the car myself. Rob's got me in quickly and found a number of things the dealer had not mentioned (esp cosmetic blemishes that did not show up in the dealer's website photos but also a couple of mechanical things). They were very clear in describing the issues. Their inspection lead to me reducing my offer and not getting the vehicle. Specializing in import cars... I'm very impressed. Took our Volvo in for an inspection and a few items. They had the car for the morning and gave me a very nice loaner car for no extra charge. When I returned, they gave me the rundown on their evaluation. They were up front and honest about the repairs. The technician told me, based on the miles and years on the car (plus we only paid $1200 for it), sticking a few extra thousand dollars into our car would be a waste. We were in the area for Thanksgiving visiting relatives. My son's vehicle needed a lug replacement and my relative recommended Rob's. They not only fit us in the Friday after Thanksgiving, but had the vehicle ready for us within a few hours. The original quote was a worse case scenario of $300+ dollars, the actual bill came in below $70. Needless to say, Rob's could have taken advantage of the situation as we were willing to pay whatever it took to fix the vehicle. Very happy, once again, with the communication and work quality of Rob's team. Significant periodic maintenance done on the BMW M Roadster before taking a much expected road trip. Took my BMW in for an oil change and general inspection. Vehicle was test driven and inspected thoroughly. Inspection results were explained and shown to me in person as I was let back in the repair area and to look at my vehicle first hand, which I believe is very important. They don't point fingers, but find the issues and fix them. Knowledgeable and affordable -- great problem solvers. They also have a nice referral program and offer loaners.
