He…read morebelieves the purpose of art is to radiate happiness, fun, love, and hope while inspiring people. The New York Times has said Britto's art, "exudes warmth, optimism and love". Britto was born in poverty in Brazil in 1963. In 1983 he made his way to Europe where he was inspired by artists such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. In 1988 he moved to Miami where he still maintains a studio. Britto's earliest work was done on newspaper which was all he could afford and he sold it on the sidewalk. Influenced by the sunshine of Miami Britto began working in bright palates which attracted people to his work. He received his first major commission to design artwork for Absolut Vodka for a 1989 campaign that also had bottles that featured art by Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Corporate partnerships and licensing deals followed. His designs have been used by companies like Disney, BMW, IBM, Apple Computers, Grand Marnier, Pepsi, and Royal Caribbean Cruises and his art has been featured on cruise ships, cars, Barbie dolls, and pet collars. His art has even made it to the World Cup, Superbowl, and Olympics. Britto art has been exhibited art galleries and museums in over 120 countries but his brightly colored artwork has become synonymous with Miami where you can find it everywhere from city vehicles, hospitals, parking meters, and lottery tickets. Britto Inc. generates 250 million dollars of sales annually. He has become the most collected and licensed artist in history. Britto works out of art gallery dubbed the Britto Palace in Wynwood. You have to win your way in for a tour through charities or Britto picks one person a week with a golden ticket to visit from anyone that spends $250 or more with him. Everyone however is free to visit and shop his flagship gallery on Lincoln Road which opened on 1993 or any of his stores. I discovered this Britto gallery in the Dolphin Mall by entrance 5. The grand opening was on May 10th and this is his 14th store. In development are over 180 U.S. stores across the U.S. and more than 2,000 globally. Inside the Britto store you will find paintings and sculptures for many thousands of dollars but there is also much more affordable art on T-shirts, plushies, tea pots, socks, ties, bags, hats, mugs, keychains, and candles. I especially loved the pet items and his collaboration with Disney. Everyone can afford to leave with a piece of Britto art from here or perhaps with just a smile on your face.

I had a very disappointing experience with Gallery Art and would not trust them with valuable…read moreartwork again. A couple of months ago, I brought in an art piece to have the inside of the plexiglass cleaned. When I noticed months later that there were still visible marks that had been missed, I also realized that the plexiglass was no longer properly seated under the wood frame, the edge was now sticking out. This had never been an issue in the 20+ years the piece of art has been in this frame, including previous handling by other professionals. I brought the piece back and spoke with an employee named Mathew. He acknowledged that the piece had not been cleaned properly, but then attempted to blame me for the plexiglass shifting due to how I "might have handled it." He also claimed the plexiglass was cut too small for the frame, which makes no sense given the frame's long history without this problem, until Gallery Art took it apart and put it back together. Mathew initially tried to charge me $180 to re-clean the piece and realign the plexiglass, even though the issue was clearly caused by their work. I asked instead for the plexiglass to simply be replaced. After getting my piece back, I contacted the owner, Amy, to discuss the situation. She was extremely unprofessional from my initial call with her. When I called at 11:30 a.m., she told me she sleeps during the day and would not speak with me until after 7 p.m. When I finally did reach her and explained that I should not have been charged to fix their mistake, she dismissed my concerns entirely after multiple calls going back and forth with her on the situation. After spending over $700 with this business, she offered only a $90 credit and later followed up with a text to me stating... "Obviously, you agreed to the price when you dropped it off, you were not double billed." This completely missed the point of my complaint, which was about poor workmanship and accountability, not billing confusion. Overall, the lack of care, refusal to take responsibility, and unprofessional communication were unacceptable. I would not trust this company with any artwork, especially valuable or sentimental pieces.

This gallery was especially nice. I loved how colorful their art was. I love going to see art…read moregalleries around the city and this is one of the first that I can say I loved almost every piece in there and it wasn't too hot or too cold and the staff was very friendly. It was an overall great experience. I think they're open late on weekends, so if you have a moment to stop by and see the art it's well worth it. There are also other art galleries near by, so you can make a night of it and end with dinner at a nearby restaurant.

I had VIP tickets to Art Wynwood, which also gave me access to the Boat Show next door…read more Unfortunately, it was torrential downpour, so the entire experience was not as enjoyable as it could have been, although that's not the fault of the venue. Fortunately, Art Wynwood was fully indoors. This was the first time I had been to Art Wynwood and I enjoyed seeing classic pieces from Latin American artists Wifredo Lam and Amelia Pelaez, pop and surrealist pieces from famous artists like Warhol and Dali, as well as contemporary pieces from lesser known artists around the world. I was really pleased that the show featured several local galleries showcasing local talent. Art Wynwood reminded me of a scaled down version of Art Miami, I thought it was very nicely produced and would love to go back next year.

He said that Avant Home is a new lifestyle concept brand from parent company, Avant Gallery, cross-pollinating contemporary art with furniture design, accessories and decor for inspirational modern-day living. Which is a great idea...... since customers can purchase furniture that would go with a particular art piece they would like to buy...or....the other way around... Depending on the artist, the pieces are in the thousands of dollars range.

She was quick to answer emails and my additional questions. Easy to e-pay as well -- not many vendors do that. Artist Jason Aponte ended up as the artist and I couldn't be more thrilled. He started sketching and painting right after the ceremony, and guests came up to him throughout the night to see the painting's progress. I was beyond thrilled with the result. Now I have a piece of art in my home! :)
