I wasn't very happy with the service I paid for. The person who took my bike in was not friendly, I had some detailed questions about my wheel and tire and they spent negative time answering my concerns. Yes... as I expected... when I picked up my bike from a flat repair with them, it went flat again in 30 minutes. Just poor workmanship and why I will never return. I brought it to a different bike shop and unlike Roberts, they took the time to diagnose my problem and fix it for real for me. Instead of taking my bike in and herding me away. these guys are awful...very shoddy work. i went in here for a simple tire change, first they installed in incorrectly and the tube came apart at the seam on the way home. when i went in and explained the issue the following day the owner pretty much interrogated me with 5 different questions trying to catch me in a perceived lie. when they finally agreed to fix it, they gave me my bike back with the front wheel not fully tightened which was extremely dangerous! stay away, prices high, bad service, potentially dangerous "repairs" read more

The best bike shop around . My grandfather brought me a 12 speed there in 1984 and I have been buying bikes nowhere else since then . They just made my oldest son's year with a new BMX that was priced much better than those big sporting goods stores . And those guys put it together so you know its done right and I also know they will stand behind everything they sell . read more

I should of written this review when I bought my Bike a year ago, but kept putting it off and forgot about it,,,,,,,then I had to go back for something and my recent visit prompted me to write the below review. I am 50 years old and decided I needed to start riding a Bike for exercise and better health so I began to start looking for a Bike. I live in Nassau County and visited a few local Bike shops, but even though there were many choices, I never felt confident that I was choosing the right Bike for me so I never made the the purchase. A friend of mine told me that he has been going to Roberts Bicycle in Bayside for over 40 years, so I decided to go there one Saturday morning.......I knew they must be doing something right based on the flow of customers in and out. I started to look around and was asked if I needed any help....(I think he was the owner,,,,,,a big guy in his fifties)....I explained that I did not need anything elaborate, but needed something of good quality and not cost me fortune. Before he showed me any Bikes, he explained a few of the aspects of matching the right Bike to the rider.........he asked me.....where would you be riding ?, how long do you expect your ride to be? etc. We narrowed it down to two different Bikes and after going back and fourth I decided on the "Specialized Cross Trail". I wanted a color that they did have on the Show Floor and he said 'No Problem we have the color in inventory, but will have to build it for you" I didn't want to have to come back in a few days so he promised that it would be completed ASAp,,,,,,,,,,I was surprised based on how busy they were. He suggested some great accessories that he felt I would want based on the "exercise" needs I previously explained.........a speedometer/odometer, waterbottle, lock, helmet, etc. As far as the pricing, it was more than competitive based on other prices I have seen on this model. It was a pleasure to have a true knowledgeable Bike Guy that genuinely cared about selling me the perfect Bike for me,,,,,,,,,,He even called me the following week and asked if I was happy with the Bike,,,,,,,,,I was impressed as a lot of other places just want you in, out and basically saying FU Pay Me. I went back there recently to have the Handlebars raised and the battery replaced on the Speedometer,,,,,,,,the guy (Craig) remembered me and told his tech guy in the back to do it ASAP..........as I was waiting I could see the guy in the back (I think his name was Carlo) checking a lot of other stuff on the Bike,,,,,,making adjustments, filling the tires etc. That is what you call "Old School Customer Service" which is a rarity in this day and age. Besides seriously considering salads, the exercising by Bicycling really has helped me loose weight. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a good price, good selection and a knowledgeable staff that will match the right Bike to the rider. read more

Like everyone else is saying it's a mom and pop shop. The employees there are great and very helpful plus the prices on their locks are amazing same for the bikes they have on discount price! Only cons I can see are that they are very deep in queens, the shop is a bit small (That really shouldn't matter) and the time it takes to build a bike is a tad long (But I bet they take the time to make sure everything is on correctly and fully functional.) So even the cons have pros to them aside the queens part. read more

Walked in on a friends recommendation and I decided to purchase the 2013 Cannondale Bad Boy 5. Gentlemen I spoke to seamed very nice at the time and promised the bike would fit in my car by taking the front wheel off and also suggested he would hook me up with a freebie for the purchase ( $1k bike ). Everything seamed ok until I went to pick it up. First they dont take Amex, Then he said taking the front wheel would be a bad idea because of the disc breaks and he just wound up throwing it in the trunk of my car with half the bike sticking out. About 1 month later I decided to purchase a road bike and called for pricing and mentioned the fact that I had recently made a purchase with them. They gave me MSRP price and even after I mentioned my previous purchase he didn't even want to pretend like he wanted to do anything for me. Keep in mind the new bike I was looking to buy was $2000. Also after purchasing the road bike at another place, I realized that the service at Roberts was lacking, nobody helped me size the bike or make any type of adjustments. I have nothing bad to say about them personally, but it looks like they just don't know any better in terms of selling a bike. Wound up purchasing my bike at Roy's in brooklyn. read more

Sadly, I had a similar experience to a previous poster with this shop. I went in to ask about a possible fix or replacement for a bike rack and was confronted by a middle aged man. He took immediate issue that I would enter his store having bought my bike at another shop and generally berated me from square one with his requesting to know where I lived and why I didn't purchase a bike from them. The whole matter escalated to a shouting match in the street. He did eventually back down, half apologize, and look at the rack. Had I read about the poster from earlier this month, I would not have gone there. For background, I grew up in this neighborhood and remember this shop treating the kids in the area rather poorly. As a result I chose to spend my money elsewhere when purchasing a new bike. On this particular day, I figured things may have changed in the last 20 years and thought spending a few dollars at the local store would be better than driving to one further away. After this experience, I will never enter this store again. read more
