They were even able to fix a broken puka shell necklace and reinforced it to be stronger. He also got an opal wedding band which is really gorgeous (I'm slightly jealous lol). We were also going to buy a new engagement ring for me but it didn't work out bc we had a miscommunication over the pricing we worked out with 1 employee who was out of office on extended leave and didn't have the price written down. Amazing experience at Robert Palma Designs. He wasn't the first jeweler to come up in my search but he should definitely be higher in people's recommendations. As an inexperienced purchaser, I did some light research and reached out to him with a general idea that we had in mind (a modification to a setting that he had displayed on his website) and gave him some parameters and my price range. Within a couple days, he was able to reach out to us and we set up an appointment to see various stones and ideas that he had based off my request. I love how responsive and quick the Robert Palma team is. I was away on the mainland but knew I wanted to get my ring resized to be smaller so I started looking for jewelers. I messaged them on IG and they were very responsive, and they have an easy Calendly you can use to book your visit. The first time I came to Robert Palma designs was 7 years ago. A corporal in the Marines needed a ride here to pick up his engagement ring. It was beautiful and it made me wonder how can a corporal afford that kind of ring?! I remember walking in and seeing no rings to view but an office with friendly staff. He had the ring resized and custom made and it fit his small budget. Fast forward to present day, I remembered about the beautiful ring and the nice people here. So I decided to look them up and make an appointment. After comparing ring prices and quality online to Tiffany's, Harry Winston Berkav's, Jared etc... I was excited to bring my other half here. Do I want a nice shiny ring? PSHH! Of course I do!! Do I want him to spend an arm, leg, toe and a kneecap for it? HELL NO! Being the cheapo, coupon clipping person I am, I decided this was the place to get my ring. Honestly, I really did compare prices, window shopped at the mall and all that. When it comes down to it, mall prices are so jacked and they won't customize too much for my finger size. (I have tiny fingers) Anyways, on our appointment day, Robert welcomed us in the penthouse looking office. The view is breathtaking! He explained and educated us on diamonds and settings. The first thing he did was show us settings. I picked my top settings I liked. I was scared that they would only fit a certain cut. Once I had my Top 5 settings, we started choosing a diamond. What I loved is that it did not matter the cut, he was able to customize to fit the settings the diamond we chose. So yes, I did not have to pick a round setting if I wanted a cushion or princess cut. YAY! The price was pretty reasonable. Compared to the mall jewelers on island, we easily saved hundreds of dollars. In the end, I chose a different cut diamond with a beautiful setting that has decorations all around. Best thing is, I will be the only one to have it. (Just a note, if it didn't fit, he would actually be able to create it! No seriously they have a place to make the settings in house!) Overall, if you are looking to buy something special for that very special person, Robert is the guy to see. He is very professional and knows his stuff. Things to note: It is by APPOINTMENT only. TLDR: You can tell Robert's an artist who really knows his stuff (more specifically a gemologist) and, as long as you're clear what you want, you're going to be very happy you went to this jeweler - the jeweler of jewelers* - I got exactly what I wanted and more. I highly recommend Robert Palma Designs. I also recently learned that he's the wedding industry's best kept secret because their facility, which services in both Japanese & US clients, also has jeweler artisans who could take the two very special custom rings I choose and combine them into a single fitting that is completely unique and completely gorgeous. It actually grabs any bit of light to sparkle. I'm in love! *** I'm the kind of woman who knows what she wants and often this is not a standard cookie-cutter thing. (I mean, who doesn't like to feel unique and special anyway?) I like to think of myself as classy lady and wanted a piece that I could wear every day that would communicate this. So, as luck would have it, one of my dear friends was engaged to a luxury jeweler* in Waikiki but I was surprised when we were looking that they recommended this place (they're now happily married and also went to visit Robert for their ring). Briefed that Mr. Palma might try to steer us in a particular direction depending on our budget, I went in with an idea of what I wanted after pouring over Pinterest. With a fair expectation that we'd have to compromise, Robert patiently spent over an hour with us, and afterward, I knew I had a better idea of what I wanted but had to think it over. It's not every day that you get the kind of hook-up that he gave us when we returned. He really expressed sincerity and wanting to get us the best quality diamond for our budget, especially the willingness to ensure I got exactly what I wanted. I knew I wanted something custom but that looked both clean and unique, with a large enough setting that we wouldn't have to upgrade for quite some time. I knew I wanted a variation on a particular popular design and he was able to deliver. While no matter what you still pay a pretty penny for an engagement ring, it will be at a fraction of the big-name jewelers for the same or *better* quality. I feel truly special knowing that my ring is completely unique and custom. If your lady is that special to you, you may want to visit Robert after you've gone shopping and got an idea what you want and then he can make your dream a reality. Oh, and when it was ready, it was really incredible. That night, almost a exactly year after we "got engaged" I can't believe my fiancé surprised me again. Setting down a gorgeous lacquered mahogany box, my fiancé proposed to me -- this time with the ring I had chosen, right in the middle of the bustling restaurant. The low overhead LED lighting was perfect - it's set off the dazzling, multidirectional sparkle of this ring and the glitter was even more beautiful than I had imagined. All the waitresses complemented me, sweetly sending their kind words. Out came complimentary champagne for our occasion and the rest is history. Let me start off by saying that shopping for an engagement ring by no means is easy. You're looking for just the perfect ring and the perfect setting that gives you all the warm feels and that's at the right price range. Because buying an engagement ring is such a big deal you want to make sure that you're comfortable with the overall purchase and because it's not just any piece of jewelry, the experience in itself is a big deal! You hope to only do this once so it's got to be perfect, right?! I originally had posted a review but had to revise it as it did not fully reflect our whole experience with Robert Palma Jewelry. So let's start with the pros.... We originally had planned on purchasing a diamond separately and then purchase our Verragio setting through Robert. There were only 2 authorized retailers in Oahu that carried Verragio settings, Robert and Ben Bridges at Ala Moana. Upon making an appointment with his office, we explained that we were going to purchase our diamond elsewhere and we just wanted him set it with the Verragio setting that we wanted. They asked us why not just purchase the diamond from them. We figured why not?! Let's see what they could find and we'll have our backup diamond ready just in case. My fiance gave Robert the specific criteria he wanted for the diamond. It took only a few days and Robert found the perfect diamond with everything we asked for and for a relatively good price. Now comes the cons... As I mentioned earlier, buying an engagement ring is a big deal and for hopeless, sentimental romantics like me, I focus on the overall experience and sometimes less on the actual material. My fiance was dead set on specific qualities and characteristics that he wanted for my diamond. All he asked me was what setting I wanted. My poor fiance literally spent days and nights researching and perusing through various sites to find the perfect diamond for me. Now herein lies the cons of our experience. Robert had originally presented us with another diamond prior to finding "the one". At the time, we thought ok this will do and told Robert to proceed with getting the diamond. As we mulled it over further over the next 3 days, my fiance didn't feel that it was the right one and informed Robert that he had changed his mind. Robert had explained that he had informed his cutter and that the cutter was going to hold it for us. We had not exchanged any monies nor was the diamond sent out. We were extremely apologetic for the change of heart but explained that this was a big purchase and we wanted to make sure we were completely satisfied. We understood Robert's standpoint but he didn't seem to fully understand ours. We know this because he inadvertently sent us an email that was intended to for his cutter and said that we, his customers, wasted his time because we didn't purchase the initial diamond he had presented us. While it was a nice diamond, it wasn't THE diamond and considering how much we were about to spend there was no way we were going to settle. This is where we were truly disappointed with Robert. During our many discussions with him, he would often tell us that doing this was passion and that it was all about making the customers happy. Looking back now, I wish those words held true as his reaction to our change of heart did not reflect his words. We thought whatever happened to making the customers happy? After the inadvertent email incident, we made Robert aware that we saw his email and apologized to him for wasting his time. Again, we explained the reason behind it and offered our sincerest apologies. At this point, I personally was ready to move on. That incident alone left a bad taste in my mouth. But, against my better judgment, my fiance decided to give Robert another chance in hopes of finding me the perfect ring. The second diamond that Robert found was the one and while it was beautiful, it was still hard for me to forget and overlook what happened. What can I say? I know how to hold grudges! In addition to our mishap with the diamond, I was disappointed to later find out that the setting I had purchased had been presented to me as a "newer" version when in reality it was not. This was confirmed after I had contacted Verragio headquarters myself. I wish that my overall engagement experience had been better but unfortunately, it wasn't. If we had to do it over again, we would have just paid more money and purchased my ring at a brick and mortar store. At the end of the day, it's not just about the ring. It's the memories, the experience and meaning behind it. I got the meaning but the memories and experience will forever be tainted because of our decision to continue to go to Robert. My advice to anyone shopping for a ring is simply go with your gut. Whether it's Robert or any other jeweler, make sure you're comfortable and HAPPY with your purchase. After being led on for a month by another designer in town, my now fiancé and I restarted our search for the perfect setting to accompany his grandmother's diamond. About 20 minutes into our first meeting with Robert, we looked at each other and both whisper-exclaimed that we were so lucky the other designer never followed through. Robert was welcoming and very generous with his time as he showed us ring after ring in his gorgeous office. The rings were elegant and interesting, and it was overwhelmingly clear that Robert and his employees cared a lot about the artistry and craftsmanship of their designs. We made our choice the next day, and he quickly got us back into the office to appraise our diamond and start the work on our ring. The appraisal process was really cool. He showed us the ring under a microscope and black light and talked to us about the different characteristics and qualities of the diamond. He even showed us the shop where they make their settings. I really appreciated that everything was made in house, and it felt like we were receiving the unique experience every soon-to-be bride wants to have. Robert was able to set our diamond very quickly, even though he and my fiancé both led me to believe it was going to take a very long time (my fiancé still wanted something about the engagement to be a surprise). A 5 STAR Robert Palma Designs search result was first to pop up, and I read a lot of great reviews. I sent over a message, and Lisa responded the very next day. We scheduled an appointment to meet on November 1st. I stopped by without my girlfriend to "feel out" our potential designers. I went in prepared with a detailed sketch to see if it was possible, affordable, and able to complete on my timeline I had planned. Lisa is a very sweet, and helpful person to talk to. Very helpful and realistic and wants every ones plans to go smoothly. She said they could do it in 2-3 weeks!! So I told her when my girlfriend and I came in together a few days later, to tell her it'd take 6-7 weeks (still so fast in my opinion to make a custom wedding ring!!!) so that she wouldn't expect me to propose when I wanted to. After a down payment to start the process, a computer design was created that looked exactly as I had imagined (a computer image to look like). When I approved that, a few days later the wax mold was completed! And a few days after that, the ring was complete and surpassed my expectations! The ring did come out a little pricier than I had imagined... but that is because Robert Palma Designs does QUALITY WORK! My ring was appraised for so much more than they charged me, and I was very happy with the work they did, it was more than worth it. I would have paid more as well... Their workshop/office is located right near Ala Moana Shopping Center and their 37th floor looks over the Waikiki area all the way till Diamond Head. Meeting Robert was great as well, to put a face to the name. They were all very friendly and professional. Lisa made this entire experience one that we will remember forever. Thank you, Lisa! The proposal: Of course after our November 1st meeting, my girl friend didn't come to any approvals, oblivious to the quick progress which was being made. I surprised her at the Wailupe dock on her birthday with the ring we had designed together, and the moment was priceless. We are looking into a May 2018 wedding :) We have been assured by Lisa that if anything happens to the ring, they will be able to help us in any way they can. Saw an add about ten years ago that they sell used Rolex's. So my wife and I decided to go to HNL for vacation and check out this jeweler. Robert and his team could not have been sweeter! We instantly felt like family!!! No pressure just wanted you to be happy. We bought his and her Presidential Rolex's at great prices. But the main thing was we felt comfortable they were REAL. They walked us through on how to tell if there real or not. Such hands on service. Now we really felt comfortable and wanted to up grade my wife's wedding ring. The process again was so easy. We explained what we wanted and they said give us some time and we will send you the cast of your ring to Maui for final approval. Went so smooth and it came out PERFECT! This little jewelry store is definitely a gem in Honolulu (pun intended). We came across this store when I started looking for an engagement ring for my now fiance. The first time we went to Robert Palma Designs we were a bit skeptical -- their store/office is located in Century Tower which is mostly residential, and there was no one in the office when we visited (on a Saturday). We found out later that we had to make an appointment for Saturdays, which is no big deal. The first time we went we talked to Lisa, who was very patient with us while my fiance tried on different rings. Most importantly she was very comfortable to talk to and not pushy with trying to make a sale (they don't work on commission), unlike at some of the other places we visited. Their prices are also very reasonable. Don't be fooled by the appearance of their office -- it clearly is an apartment unit, however this is so they don't have to pay for mall floor space, and hence pass on the savings to the customer. In fact their diamond prices are roughly half that of other chain stores (assuming the same grades)! In the end I decided to go with them and design a custom engagement ring. They were very responsive with the initial design phase; I wanted to combine characteristics from two different rings and they were able to get me a computer model of the design in about 2.5 weeks. I was very picky about all the minute details (after all she will be wearing it for the rest of her life), and they were very accommodating with all of my requests. It then took another week or so for them to produce a wax model of the setting. The final ring in platinum was finished about a week and a half after that, and it was exactly as how I envisioned it. From inception to final product took a total of 5 weeks. The jeweler did a great job with the design and final execution and I was really happy with the result. My fiance absolutely loves the ring, and we are both grateful to Lisa and Robert Palma Designs for their excellent service and outstanding workmanship. When it comes time to buy a wedding band I'm certain I will be returning to them. Bottom line is they have everything that makes a great business: reasonable prices, high quality products and top notch customer service. Oh yeah and the view from their office is awesome! read more

We had a jeweler on the mainland, Mark, who grew up in Hawaii. Over the years, we became very close friends.He used to close his mainland store every summer, and come to Hawaii. Often, when we vacationed in Hawaii, we would get together for dinner. We knew he brought jewelry from the mainland and did business here. But we never met any of the jewelers he did business with here in Hawaii. , Knowing him so well, we knew he ONLY did business with reputable people. We spent several years looking and researching diamonds on the mainland. Just when I had a good idea of the type of stone I wanted, our jeweler on the mainland past away. Then I lost my desire for a diamond. Several years later, we were in HI. We saw an ad for Rolex watches. We called and made an appointment with Robert Palma. He seemed very nice and spent a lot of time showing us the watches. During our visit, we chatted and mentioned our dear friend and jeweler on the mainland grew up here in Hawaii and past away. It turned out, no one had ever contacted Robert Palma to tell him about this sad news. He always wondered what happened. Talking further, we learned they did business for many, many years. Chills went down my spine. I realized right then and there that Robert Palma would become our jeweler. We told him I had lost interest in jewelry after Mark's passing, but I did want a diamond ring. He said he'd look for some stones and keep in touch. Several months later, we booked another trip to Oahu. Robert said he'd have some stones for us to look at. He ultimately found THE one. We then sat with him for a couple of hours looking at settings. Nothing existed that fit our descriptions. He listened carefully and looked with us at what we liked and didn't like about all the settings in catalogs. He measured my finger and said he'd design something. A few weeks later, he emailed us this spectacular design. He had listened to everything we said without taking any notes! Three weeks later, this gorgeous ring arrived to us on the mainland! It was PERFECT! That was six years ago. Not a day goes by when someone compliments my ring. Since then, we have purchased several items from Robert Palma.
