I am only 20 years old and I suffer from multiple herniated discs and a compression fracture in my spine due to some severe car accidents I was involved in. For five days I could not move out of bed I was in the worst lower back pain I'd ever had in my life. My dad recommended him to me and I made an emergency appointment the same day and was able to go in and do an emergency epidural injection in my L1. I am beyond terrified of needles especially epidural needles but Dr. Charchian talked me through the whole process and it felt like a breeze. That was around May June. In November I went to Portugal and over the 2 weeks I walked 55 miles on hills, on cobblestone and tile up and down MANY stairs in from south to north. Although I live in Long Beach and had limited time to visit in person, Dr. Melikian was kind enough to initiate contact via email and responded promptly. He arranged a quick phone consultation at no charge. He came across as very amiable, genuinely concerned, and highly knowledgeable about the subject. During our conversation, he brought up additional tests and treatment options I wasn't previously aware of. The call was definitely productive and appreciated. My only gripe, generally speaking--not specific to his practice--is that stem cell treatments are exorbitantly priced and not covered by insurance. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $9,000 or more for various stem cell treatment options. So, not a go just yet until I figure out how to come up with the money, I will have to live with my back pain.

He often starts with some anti-inflammatories and doesn't recommend surgery unless you're old and really need it. However, he also doesn't believe in any alternative therapies like prolotherapy. When I explained that it changed my life for a disc problem I was having. He says he doesn't know much about it. He also said there's nothing to do about shoulder cartilage (arthritis). Since he doesn't seem to believe in prolotherapy, I'm sure he doesn't believe in any of the procedures being done to restore cartilage. He also wants to leave the room about 5 to 7 minutes in and you definitely feel rushed. Any recently my husband came in for extreme shoulder pain and he put him on a dose pak for a week, which did not help at all... Another doctor did an MRI and discovered significant tears. I'm sure he is a competent surgeon but.he seems to only wants to do NSAIDS or surgery. Nothing in between. And your visit feels extremely rushed., I will not be going back to Dr. Hannon.

I write this in my…read morethird month of recovery from the PAO and arthroscopy surgery: I am relatively young, in my early twenties, and never had surgery in my life, so the idea of getting TWO surgeries (Arthroscopy and PAO) was very scary. I also had another issue where I could not accept blood transfusions of any kind. That also added to my level of fear and distress. The idea of a minimally invasive PAO is not something I had heard of before and was very anxious. However, Dr. Garabekyan was SO patient in answering every question I had. His assistant Susie was also amazing and gave us anything we needed. When in the hospital, he frequently visited and called to make sure that I was okay. As expected, my hemoglobin did drop, but thanks to the salvage saving method used, I never had any critical blood loss/feel the side effects of anemia. I felt very, very minimal pain. The medication prescribed was perfect. The "hard" part was the period of 1-2 weeks after leaving the hospital, as sleeping was very difficult due to being a side sleeper. Dr. Garabekyan's advice (using many small pillows to relieve pressure) will helped getting through the night a lot easier. Another thing that amazed me is that he would answer our questions even on his vacation time. His recovery process was VERY well detailed, and we never needed to guess on what methods of recovery he wanted us to do. I have been to many hip doctors at Cedar Sinai and other hospitals, and I've never had a doctor as caring and patient as Dr. Garabekyan. Choosing him to do the surgery was the best decision I could make and I'm so thankful to his excellent communication skills, and of course his incredibly awesome assistant, Susie! :)

Having recently been dealing with shoulder pain I opted to see him for some feedback. Everyone had told me what a great doctor he is but getting to meet him and seeing his bedside manner firsthand made me wholeheartedly agree with them. Dr. Millstein took his time to go over my images and reports and thankfully told me that all I need is Physical Therapy (not surgery) to get better. He was very forthright, knowledgeable and welcoming and encouraged me that I can always reach out to him personally should I have any questions or concerns. Dr. Millstein really cares about his patients. It is evident from the second you meet him that he really is there to help you and not push for surgery unless it's needed.
