Well I did it. I broke my fibula right above my ankle. I was hoping for a simple cast, and be on my way but my break will require surgery. I read some extremely positive reviews for Dr. Mikhael but saw negative as well which was concerning. I found that the Dr. Mikhael was genuinely a nice guy. He greated me with a smile, was concerned if I was suffering any pain and was extremely informative regarding the next steps needed to get me back on my feet...literally. Had to ADD - to my initial review as it's MUCH WORSE- He completely misdiagnosed me. Dismissed me as having a mild sprain. Told me not wear the boot. And to begin physical therapy immediately. Hardly checked. Dismissed my concerns for an MRI. Gave me a "moderate ankle sprain" diagnosis to my physical therapist. I pushed for an MRI. He marked it as not prompt. It took two weeks for results. I had grade 3 torn ligaments on both sides and had to immediately stop the physio I had been doing. He never read my results or followed up. Will be getting further advice. DO NOT GO HERE. Below - my initial review even before I knew the severity of the injury and his mistakes - --- There is a basic 'bedside' manner and appropriate way to discuss an injury. This doctor does not have that. I saw him twice for my injury and he barely checked it, and when I asked him what to avoid on my recovery , said - "don't do it again." No curation. No plan. Minimal care. Rude, dismissive and unhelpful. I never write yelp reviews but have done so here because I will be making an official complaint as I now need a second opinion and follow up with a different doctor, and I wish I had read these reviews before making an appointment with him. read more

Dr. Mikhael was completely apathetic. No introduction, no goodbye. Handed me a prescription and walked out the door. When I brought it to the receptionist she asked what it was for because the paper didn't say anything and then asked what body part was it for! I gave him a full rundown of my issue, it's been a recurring injury and it has gotten worse and the pain is pretty severe. He shrugged, said it was a sprain and just looked at me. No suggestion of care moving forward- then when I asked about another part of the issue he said that's not typical of a sprain- and again just dead stare. No further info. Not only do you have to wait for over an hour to be seen, but when you are he doesn't even take the time to fully evaluate and diagnose your situation. I went to about 3 different podiatrists and Dr. Mikhael was the one who took care of me during one of the most painful times of my life. From the moment I walked into his office, he showed empathy and answered all my questions. On the day of surgery he went to check up on me before and made me feel really comfortable and confident about my ankle surgery. After the surgery, he went and spoke to my family to let them know how it went and post op care. Truly great experience considering one of the worst times of my life. read more

I put off writing this review for a little while because A) I wanted to give it some time before I wrote something that was merely reactive, and B) I wanted to get a second opinion and see how another doctor might handle the exact same information/test results Dr. Mikhael had had. Long story short, I do not recommend Dr. Mikhael. I was so put off by his demeanor and treatment that I sought a second opinion from another orthopedic surgeon who also specialized in foot/ankle. Once I met with this other doctor, it became immediately clear to me that it wasn't my imagination... Dr. Mikhael provides substandard care. In my initial appointment with him, his bedside manner started out a little cold and rushed, ultimately turning confrontational and rude in follow-up appointments. He carries an air of arrogance and impatience, almost seeming annoyed at his job at times and seemingly insulted by questions. He skimmed through test results, cherry-picking a few things to focus on (completely missing important findings) and tried to dumb down any kind of real explanation of anything going on in my foot. There were important findings that he'd skipped over which were immediately picked up on by my second opinion doctor, and I am now on a better treatment plan because of it. I have never had a doctor speak to me the way Dr. Mikhael spoke to me. I believe I can confidently say that there are much better doctors out there who are more thorough, compassionate, professional, and patient. If you can go elsewhere, find another doctor. If I could give zero stars I would! My appointment with Dr. Mark Mikhael was the worst doctors appointment I've ever had in my life and I'm 61 years old. My previous orthopedist, Dr Wang , who was great , moved to Ventura so I was seeking a new doctor to get my orthotics and my yearly foot exam. I called the office and asked if Dr. Mikhael did orthotics and could he fit me for them in office. They assured me YES he did do orthotics AND he could fit me for them the next day ! This was fantastic news since I desperately needed new orthotics . I also have plantar fibromas - so these were the two reasons I went to see him. The first thing that happened, which I thought was odd was before seeing the doctor they took me in for x-rays on both of my feet - which I never asked for and I'm still not sure why they did that. This is not something you need for orthotics. The second thing that happened was when the doctor walked into the room he never introduced himself or said hello let alone welcome me. It was the most bizarre negative energy I've ever experienced with a doctor in my life . He asked me why I was there and I told him the two reasons. The first thing he said is, "I don't do orthotics"! He said he can write me a referral for somewhere else ! I was shocked ! I asked him if we could discuss my fibromas and if there was anything new in medicine to help with them . He said "if you're not in bad pain and not interested in any procedures - then there's nothing I can do for you". End of subject ! It was so awkward and unprofessional. I can't even explain it! Mind you - at this point he has not even looked or touched my feet let alone discussed my x-rays ! I said are you going to examine my feet and he said "why would I do that?" it was honestly the weirdest most disrespectful conversation/interaction I've ever had with a doctor. Needless to say, I went in for a foot exam and orthotics, and I walked out of the office with neither. If they charge me for the exam and or the x-rays that is criminal! Also When I questioned him a second time about examining my fibromas he rolled his eyes and huffed and puffed like a two-year-old child and started to put on his gloves. At that point I got up and walked out of the office and asked him for the orthotics referral. He then said to me "no you should leave". I CAN'T MAKE THIS UP ! I felt like I was on a television show like PUNKED or WHAT WOULD YOU DO ! By the way I've never written a bad review in my life and I'm so disheartened because I've called the office three times and left messages asking to speak with an office manager or someone in charge. Also, when I walked out of the appt the kind women at the desk could visibly see I was very shaken and upset and she promised me someone would call me that day to discuss what happened . It's been one week and no one has called me back! I (and my husband and mother) have been to several doctors at this practice and I have liked them all very much which is why I'm so horribly disappointed and disgusted . DO NOT GO TO DR. MARK MIKHAEL - he should be doing something else for a living that doesn't have anything to do with people skills or kindness or just basic manners. read more

This was a terrible visit from start to finish. First, I was given incorrect information over the phone when scheduling an appointment for a knee problem. I was told that this provider was an "ankle, foot, and knee specialist," but the website only listed him as a foot and ankle specialist and included certifications related to that--not one thing about knees. While I'm sure all orthopedic specialists are more than familiar with knee anatomy, I was still looking for a knee specialist and was explicitly told he was one over the phone. The front desk staff were also unfriendly and borderline rude, which was another thing I didn't love about this office. The wait time was pretty long, too. I didn't see the doctor until nearly an hour after my appointment time, which wasn't great but (unfortunately) not outrageous for a doctor's office. When I finally saw the doctor, he had a terrible bedside manner from the second he barged through the door without knocking. He never once examined my knee (!), and he just stood across the room for the less than five minutes he was in there like he was wasting his time being in there. And he gave me incorrect information and an incorrect diagnosis based on complete speculation--again, he didn't examine my knee--and said the problem was probably my hamstring. After seeing another provider, I've learned that it is definitely not my hamstring. After all of this, I was just going to move on and find a new doctor (I never normally write reviews), BUT I just got billed for two X-rays that I never got!! I did not get a SINGLE X-ray at this office. I'm going to call tomorrow and I'm sure it will get figured out, but it's just an added hassle to an already disappointing experience. :( read more

Subsequent visits and I was healing fast. I was walking unaided again in 3 months. Physical therapy was scheduled and I'm healing. I highly recommend Dr. Mikhael. If I could put 0 stars I would. Dr. Mikhael is the rudest most uncaring no bedside manners and argumentative Dr I've ever met!!! I went in for pain in my knees with my own xray from a different location, he came in and had the x-ray up on the screen and immedialty said you need a knee replacement. You are on bone to bone or you can get a corisone shot that will relieve you for 3 mos that's it. No exam no nothing, no question of my history any previous surgeries etc... I then ask what about my right knee he responded that's not what you came in here for! OMG I said when I made the appt I stated both knees were bad, he hestinaley sent me for xray of my right knee and when I returned he stated that one isn't that bad, I then ask to explain the knee replacement procedure he said something all of 3 seconds which I then mention to him I've had a major surgery on both of my knees as a teenager which I proceeded to show him and when I ask do you think my hip could have something to do with my knee also since i am experiencing pain down my leg and in my foot, he then went to tell me why didn't you say this before hand and my response was why didn't you ask me my history period!!! Even though they give you about 15 pages of info they want you to fill out, but it was my place to bring up my history. Well that was that he says you need to see a knee specialist and a plastic surgeon (excuse me I thought you were a knee surgeon) because he says you can't overlap scars he says it's very dangerous. Tore my achilles tendon 2 months ago and got my surgery with Dr. Mark Mikhael. My scar is 1/4 of the size of other scars I see online. My scar is also barely visible. I was in minimum pain and finally walking without a boot today. I highly recommend Mark to anyone that needs this type of a surgery. Terrible doctor - This orthopedic (foot dr) operated on my right foot in January and now it is July. I was told I would be back to work in a couple of weeks. I returned to work after 6 weeks with a scooter. I am still in significant pain & have sought care with a better more caring doctor. The morning of the surgery he refused to answer a few questions, was most unprofessional and was laughing and joking with the surgical staff but rude to me. His bed side manner was terribly lacking and the end result was also very disappointing. He & his office don't return phone calls and never also bothered to follow up with me after the surgery to see if I was okay. I thought being an orthopedic and foot dr he would be better but I was obviously wrong. He also did a additional procedure on my foot which he never explained which has resulted in the very extended recovery time. Furthermore his office charged $25-$30 each time for any medical records that were needed or forms that were filled out. I was finally able to get my medical records after a month and have moved on to a better, more caring dr who is a podiatrist. read more

I saw Dr. Mikhael for several months following an accident in which I broke my ankle in three places. He was truly excellent. He was kind, knowledgeable and was a joy to work with during my recovery. Dr. Mikhael never made me feel rushed and he answered every question I had about my treatment with respect and zero condescension. He shares his practice with several other orthopedic specialists. As a result, the waiting room may get a bit full from time to time, but I never waited more than a few minutes to get in, so don't let that be a deterrent to his his excellent care. I totally nodded my head reading all the positive reviews on Dr. Mikhael. I had torn Achilles at age 45 and was completely stressed my active lifestyle would be gone forever. Dr. Mikhael was so calming and knowledgeable that I couldn't help but feel at ease. Luckily he backed up all that he promised. Two months earlier than expected, I was back to running and feeling like my young self. It was a long dark road to recovery, so having a great doctor by your side was so beneficial. I'm very thankful to Dr. Mikhael for all he's done for me and ultimately my family. I'm back to being a sports-playing dad and a grocery-carrying husband. Dr. MIkhael has performed two surgeries on me: my achilles and my knee. I trust him implicitly! He is very knowledgeable, skilled and takes pride in his work. The stitches are practically invisible on my ankle! He is extremely professional and caring about his parents. I recommend him to everyone who needs a bone doctor. I have been under the care of Dr. Mikhael for about a year. He repaired my hip and from day one was amazing. I was hysterical from the pain and the idea of needing major surgery. He was so calming and reassured me from day one that he would take good care of me. At every follow up appointment he has taken the time to speak with me and answer every question. My hip has healed beautifully. Dr. Mikhael and his office even went above and beyond when it came to needing more physical therapy. They wrote letters to my insurance to assist with getting more sessions. I have been very well taken care of by the whole staff. The OSS office (and specifically Dr. Mark Mikhael) is the most unprofessional "medical" (and I use the term very loosely) facility I have ever visited. It is with deep regret I ever went to this office. I wish I knew to avoid this group of "specialists" - said with great sarcasm. Mark is an arrogant know-it-all know spends about 3 minutes with patients and doesn't offer an information or advice. The billing codes do not match up with what is "performed" and the front office, back office, in-between-everyone-in-the-office treat you like cattle. Wait times are unacceptable. They are unorganized, impolite and over-booked. They do not care about your health. They only care about being paid. And, take note of the massive paperwork you are asked to fill out before being seen. Clearly they have been sued multiple times. Way too much legal bullsh*t for an office with a clean record. Sadly, I was assigned this person to assist me in my recover. Horrible experience. He was not forthcoming with any helpful information. He didn't even ask about the injury or how I was feeling. And, worst of all - he offered no guidance on the next steps for rehab or recovery. The OSS facility is similar to the DMV - but, the DMV has shorter wait times and happier employees. If there was an option for less than one star, I would give it. My husband went in to see Dr. Mikhael for a complete toe fracture and came out of there with little to no information. Dr. Mikhael was very rude and his bedside manner is absent. But whatever, that wouldn't even matter if he was a good doctor. He literally spent 3 minutes with my husband, barely examined his foot, glanced at his x-rays and offered little to no advice on how to proceed. My husband literally had to ask all the questions to get advice or information from him on how to proceed. He was extremely dismissive of my husband's pain and basically told him "you're fine" even though the urgent care doctor highly recommended seeing a specialist for such an impressive fracture. Update on this awful office. It's been 7 weeks and my injury is worse not better, I still can't walk at all, so I'm currently trying to get in with a better ortho. Not only did the doctor treat me horribly and give me ZERO advice on treatment, pain management, anything helpful, but they have a really bad office policy of charging you a $120 "holding fee" before you've even seen the doctor. I assumed I would get this back but no, I just received another bill for $4.90 on top of the $120 that they charged me the day of my apt. One of the charges is for over $500 (luckily my insurance is covering a lot of this) for a COMPREHENSIVE evaluation. Give me a break! This guy spent less than 10 minutes with me and that's a comprehensive evaluation? Something about this just rubs me the wrong way. It would be like going to the grocery store and them charging you before you've bought any food and telling you "don't worry if you don't spend it all we will refund you the difference." The BEST in the game!!! In October of 2014 I was involved in a very serious car accident, which left me in the hospital for three months. As you can imagine, I have seen my fair share of Doctors! Dr. Mikhael is absolutely one of my favorites. His staff greets you with a smile, are extremely helpful and very kind. Dr. Mikhael himself is FANTASTIC. He is incredibly knowledgable & skillful, and has top notch bedside manner. Part of my follow up, was receiving a screw out of my ankle. I decided not to go under and was understandably nervous. Went to this Doc for a second opinion regarding 3 intensely herniated discs, with MRI and XRays. Mark proceeded to XRAY me again, saying the MRI wasn't as telling as an XRAY, when I had serious soft tissue damage. Told me no surgery would help. Went back to original Doc (Doppenberg), who said laminectomy and discectomy were needed. Ended up having surgery allowing me to walk again. He can handle broken bones, but don't waste your time if you have a soft tissue injury and God help you if you need surgery! Astonishingly incompetent and pathetic doctor. read more

Dr Mark Mikhael is seriously an angel from heaven that walks around the earth among the rest of us! Thank the skies above for him. I want to share a quick story about Dr Mark and the man he really is. I was 19 years old snowboarding up in big bear for a friend's bday. A really bad storm had hit and I went down a jump and unable to se my landing I shattered my T9 vertebrae and was instantly paralyzed. I was broke my ribs and barely conscious. As a spinal cord injury they usually air lift you to the hospital but due to the weather I was had no choice but to go by ambulance to Loma Linda where I met Mark. He was a resident surgeon at the time and told me that they would be me into emergency surgery that night. The fused my vertebrae and prevented any more damage from happening. Mark also noticed an infection after my first surgery and literally saved my life. We have actually become very good friends over the years and I couldn't speak more highly of this kindred soul! read more

I went to see Dr. Mikhael in Sept 2019 with severe shoulder pain and restricted range of movement. He took about 5 minutes, did not even examine my shoulder. He just looked at the xray. Actually he didn't even look at it. Told me it's nothing. And if I want he can give me a cortisone shot, and a few PT sessions. He literally dismissed me. I thanked him and left. Now 3 months later, I am getting ready for surgery. A very professional doctor, who took the time to examine my shoulder, ordered an MRI. Dr is great however overbooking and scheduling needs to be worked on. We've had a couple of appointments and one we arrived right at our scheduled time and another 15 minutes early. Both times we've waited at least 45 minutes to be seen. Confirm when scheduling or rescheduling who your appointment is actually with. We were rescheduled one other time and we're not informed that it was with the PA rather than the doctor which was not the intent of the appointment. Overall great doctors, again just the overbooking issue needs to be worked on. read more

I injured my heel pretty bad 18 days ago. I called OSS and got in with this Doctor the next day. They took X-rays, he spent maybe 6 minutes with me and mainly because I kept asking questions. I was told no break and it was bruised. Told I "could wrap it" after I asked if I needed a brace or boot. I could not put any weight on my foot. I wasn't given crutches. I had one crutch that was my son's crutch.. Two weeks later, I returned and complained about pain. I mentioned that pain you have when you're bone is knitting as I have had broken bones as a kid. He said maybe there's a hairline fracture so you can stay off of it for 6 weeks or get an MRI. I opted for the mri which was ordered as stat. I had the MRI the next day and was told results would be in by end of day. I called my doctor in the late afternoon and they told me I needed to come in and the next appointment time was on Monday (this was Wednesday). I asked if they would tell me if my foot was broken as I didn't want to walk on it if it was broken. I was told I needed to wait until Monday. I called the MRI place, got my report and yes, it was a fracture! It's beyond negligent that no one has called me to tell me I have a fractured foot!!!!. I saw another foot specialist today who was appalled and immediately put me in a boot and crutches. Think twice about going to this doctor. read more

Almost 6 months ago, I met Dr. Mikhael in the emergency room in St. Joseph Medical Center Burbank after a car accident. I thought it was my worst day, but actually it was a very lucky one because Dr. Mikhael took care of me. He did two surgeries on my ankle and now it feels great like it was never broken.He spend time to talk to me before the surgeries and contacted my family afterwards. He also helped me to go through the terrible pain due to my low back issues. I recently dropped a 45 lbs weight on my ankle and needed an orthopedic doctor pretty quickly. His nurses were able to set me up within a couple days. Their office staff is very nice and extremely quick on getting patients in and out of there.
