Dr. Millstein has been my husband, brother, nephew and many friends' go to doctor with all their shoulder and knee issues. Having recently been dealing with shoulder pain I opted to see him for some feedback. Everyone had told me what a great doctor he is but getting to meet him and seeing his bedside manner firsthand made me wholeheartedly agree with them. Dr. Millstein took his time to go over my images and reports and thankfully told me that all I need is Physical Therapy (not surgery) to get better. He was very forthright, knowledgeable and welcoming and encouraged me that I can always reach out to him personally should I have any questions or concerns. Dr. Millstein really cares about his patients. It is evident from the second you meet him that he really is there to help you and not push for surgery unless it's needed. From moment one I was impressed with the Commons & Dr Eric Milstein due to his professional staff and their expeditious reply to voice mails. I had an incredibly painful shoulder and the staff worked to fit me in to Dr Milstein's busy schedule ASAP ! The Commons office is a very comfortable and inviting space--no hideous straight back chairs lined up in a windowless lobby ! A spacious area with various seating areas and a pleasant front desk staff. Dr Milstein himself is friendly, professional and direct. I have much confidence in his medical assessment and protocol for my very painful shoulder. After years with Kerlan Jobe (now Cedars) the circuitous phone messages to reach a human, the exorbitant wait times to actually see a Dr, the rushed brief visit once an appointment is secured with a doctor, Dr Milstein and his practice are a breath of fresh air !!! Dr. Millstein covered all the necessary bases in regard to my postoperative care needs in his specialty of orthopedic knee surgery. He also carefully examined the x-rays that his technician had just completed, and told me that everything looked good. He also said after he had me bend my knees and do some setup and stand exercises that I had reached the point where I really did not need to continue with physical therapy for my knees on a professional level at this time, unless I wanted to. He did encourage me to keep being physically active. I had a problem with my knee for nine months, and had been seeing another orthopedic surgeon who had misdiagnosed me. Luckily, I had the good sense to obtain a second opinion from Dr. Millstein. Dr. Millstein made a diagnosis in literally two minutes, and my knee was operated on about two weeks later. After nine months of walking with extreme pain in my right knee, I obtained complete relief in a very short period of time. Extremely grateful to be able to walk without pain, and extremely grateful to this excellent doctor, who did not even need to obtain any imaging studies whatsoever to make my diagnosis. As a doctor myself, my advice for anyone out there who is experiencing frustration with their doctors's diagnosis is to obtain a second opinion! Not all doctors know what the hell they're doing. Seems like all they care about is money here and not the patient. I don't have insurance so I was paying everything out of pocket. The consult was 500 which only lasted 15 mins, I get it he's busy. I was told the consult would last longer than that. I had some follow up questions after the appointment. To which I would have appreciated a phone call. But nope, the assistant told me I would need to make an office visit. Pay another 200 for 15 more mins of his time. read more

I visited Dr. Millstein for a torn rotator cuff and then two months later for a fractured kneecap. Dr. Millstein is incredibly knowledgeable and is conservative in his treatment. I've heard that surgeons are quick to want to perform surgery, but Dr. Millstein listened carefully, looked at test results and determined that surgery was not necessary for either of my injuries. His skillset is top-notch and he answers all questions without rushing you. Although I haven't seen Dr. Millstein yet and I'm literally just sitting in the waiting room, I had to share my experience thus far with this unbelievable office. Three days ago I fell and broke my wrists, collarbone and a rib. After a quick ER visit, I was told to find an orthopedic specialist to determine what to do next. I called every office around Venice and unfortunately was rejected by all of them because "we don't take new patients at the moment"... I explained that I'm in incredible pain but no luck. Until I called Dr. Eric Millstein's office! The reception ladies were the sweetest and understood my situation and made a true effort to get me in ASAP. Insurance, payments and other items were far from being a priority. I felt like they genuinely wanted to help. The intake form portal and X-ray uploading platform were very user-friendly and it took me less than 5 min to complete it all. They booked me an appointment a week out but kept on updating me on cancellations. A day later a Susie answered my call and was able to squeeze me in to see the Dr. (I can't even describe to you how sweet and helpful this woman is!!) Would give this guy 100 stars if I could! Was referred by both one of my best friends and my son who is an insurance defense lawyer who uses both drs Kaye and Millstein as their ortho experts. Had rotator cuff surgery and was expecting the worst, given all of the people I talked to who had the same procedure done. Couldn't have been easier. Little pain and discomfort, but that should be expected why you get high quality care. Dr. Millstein was out of network but paid his fee in cash happily. I'm playing golf this weekend, 14 weeks post surgery. Dr. Millstein's CV is ridiculous, as are his doctor and surgical skills. read more

Wait time was too long. I was told "waiting fora room, but MD said he needed to talk longer with a pt. whose surgery did not go well. MD not prepared for the visit. Staff could be heard calling insurance companies and the name, address, birth date and phone number of patients could be heard, and I was sitting furthest from the front desk. This is a HIPPA violation! People coming in were frustrated as the data they uploaded prior to their visit was not in their charts. The office staff seemed disorganized. read more

After surgery , several months, had a problem as it wasn't healing right and tough to walk- Acl reconstruction - Came to see him for follow up to discuss - he immediately placed it on me. I didn't follow treatment etc, actively taking notes- to protect him from litigation. Rather then offer to look at my knee. I had a surgery 18 months later- to fix the issues, he must have missed. I never followed up my review with an update, so here it is. I healed up great! The doc said I'd have 90% of what I had before, I actually think it's closer to 97%. There's a bit of pain if I really push my movement to the outer limits, like reaching way past overhead to the far left, but I have to try really hard to feel any pain. Super happy with the surgery. Here's a couple of tips for anyone that goes through this: 1. Follow aftercare instruction to a T. Be extra conservative. 2. Use the ice machine in your shoulder as often as recommended. 3. Try to wean off any pain medication ASAP so you don't get hooked on it. I was done in 3 days but kept taking the Toradol. 4. Expect to take a year or maybe a bit longer to be totally healed. Even then there may be some pain for awhile. This is NORMAL. Even a couple years is no big deal when you consider the pain you were in before surgery. Ok. Those are my tips. One more thing. When in his office he took an MRI of my left shoulder, even though he worked on the right. He said my acromion was getting long and going to likely start causing me pain. Well guess what? He was correct. I just had an MRI and will send him the results. I've been in pain for a few months and most recently I've experienced tingling in my left shoulder. Neck has been hurting too for around 8 months. So... I'll keep you posted. James :-) read more

A bit frustrated by the office as I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks in advance and was told my insurance covered my appointment (Anthem EPO; just FYI, they do take PPOs, but not EPOs), and I was not notified until I arrived that my insurance would not cover the appointment. I should have confirmed with my provider, but it's hard not to trust the people with experience at the front desk. Nevertheless, Dr. Millstein still saw me and didn't charge me. I only had a minor tendon injury in my foot, so it wasn't much to diagnose and for him to give me some basic advice, but I still found the fact that he would see me despite the mistake a sign of good character and a good doctor. He also offered to look at a list of orthopedists my insurance covers (from the Anthem site) and give his rec, something I thought was a good way to make up for the mistake. These things happen, and I think it speaks volumes as to how this practice is run that they did the best to accommodate me despite the confusion of our insurance system in this country, hence the 5 stars. read more

Best Orthopedic surgeon I have ever had the experience of being treated by! From the moment I called to make the appointment and spoke to Beth, until I left the office. Dr Millstein was down to earth, honest, professional and straightforward with me. I am in my 70's, have travelled extensively my entire life, so I've had a lot of experience with many types of doctors, with several broken bones in my life, I speak from experience. I highly recommend this wonderful surgeon (also the reviews demonstrate this along, with some of his previous and current patients with whom I spoke) And of course, it all trickles from the top, suggesting that every staff member in Dr Millstein's facility followed suite, all being kind, professional, efficient and caring. So back on January 1, 2013 I fell while ice skating for the first time. It was extremely painful and my leg twisted strangely underneath my back. Sounds like it hurt? Yeah, to say the least it did. I'm not a complainer and passed it off as a reeeeeeallly bad sprain. January passed. February came and went. March came and went & I still had considerable pain just walking. Turns out I did a bit more than "just spraining" it. So I sought the professional evaluation of Dr. Millstein. I am glad I did, we did all the necessary testing and diagnostics. This is way overdue. Dr. Millstein performed surgery for me on 11/17/17. I had a graft replace for an ACL and meniscus repaired. His communication throughout the process including texting and calling me post op. was a big surprise and also very helpful. Not all surgeons are alike. Whether it's their ability, or bedside manner, or communication pre/post op. you will see quite a variance between these types of professionals. Dr. Millstein nails all the categories and I am so grateful that Cedars referred me to him and that my insurance worked with him. I would highly recommend him if you are injured and need a great Orthopedic surgeon. Best possible outcomes because of Dr. Millstein! I couldn't be happier with my recent knee replacement that Dr. Millstein performed. And - I'm only 2 weeks out from the surgery! He was very upfront with the pros and cons for me. I have always felt that he truly cares about me and my situation. I have Lupus and arthritis and have deliberated the decision for the replacement for almost 10 years. I was told for the first few that I was too young for it at the time. I'm still technically too young since there is a possibility I'll have to have another one someday. But - Dr. M never pushed the surgery on me. In fact, he told me two years ago, that he wouldn't do it for "aggravating" only when it became unbearable. That happened this year when I was held back from almost all of the activities I have enjoyed my whole life. It was time. And I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I was a bit concerned at the start - because I got a UTI in the hospital and had to stay on a little longer. But - my care from Dr. Millstein and the residents on call took amazing care of me, gave me a lot of attention and clearly explained the issues and risks. I came home in fine shape, and was off to rehab! Best decision I've made regarding my health in a long time. I can't wait to ski, hike, bike and play in the coming months! read more
