We used Robert almost 2 years ago and should have done the review then. After meeting with 2 other "installers" we found Robert on Craigslist. We think he did a great job. He gave us a time and he showed up and got the job done. Since it has been 2 years our Ikea cabinets still look great and we have zero problems. He really is as good as all the reviews say. I had to write a review for Robert. I actually didn't get to use his services but his customer service is first class. I sent Robert a text and he responded immediately. Unfortunately he's tied up and wasn't able to get to my job in the timeframe I needed to but he was very considerate and actually referred me to someone else which is not something that a business would usually do. He was concerned and wanted to make sure that my job got handled and handled correctly. I hope in the future I am able to use Robert's company because he seems to have a great work ethic, great customer service and produces a quality product. read more

Wow! Cannot say enough good things about this business. Robert knows his stuff and is the consummate professional -- but is also a great guy. I bought some inexpensive, PREPAC garage cabinets, but lost my nerve when it came to installing the rail system that they hang on. The cabinets are HEAVY, and these HUGE screws need to be dead-center in the stud to support the weight; and the stud finder was giving conflicting readings. Home Depot sells these, but does not install, and had no recommendations. Did not know what to do. Thanks to Yelp, found Robert. He came on his one day off (Sunday) to install. (He also provided other installers names, if I needed help sooner!) I would have been happy paying his $100 minimum just for installing the rail system; but he spent another hour (at least), bolting the four cabinets together for extra strength, and installing/adjusting the doors perfectly (like only a professional installer can). Some of the hardware was damaged/defective, and he even fixed that. I think the guy is amazing. read more

Robert is amazing - creative, on time, nonsmoker, detail oriented, upbeat and nice. Cannot imagine a better workman/craftsman. His quotes are very fair and actually he could charge more for the quality job he produces and we wouldn't have minded. Kept us up to date on what he was doing and asked us when there was a change or he had thought of a better way. Most impressive! Thanks. read more

Robert installed my kitchen cabinets and did a beautiful job. I have worked with a number of contractors and Robert is by far the most professional and detail oriented installer I've come across. Within a few minutes of arriving on site, he broke out a copy of my kitchen plan ( ikea kitchen), identified potential problems, suggested great solutions and then proceeded to deliver a flawless installation. The reviewer who called him "meticulous" hit it right on the head....Robert is a total perfectionist. I would recommend him to anyone i know. I love my new cabinets!! read more

Unfortunately, I have to amend my five-star rating for Robert. He did two built-ins for us in two different homes. The first went perfectly, but on the second, we had an experience very similar to William C. The job was 90% complete when he disappeared and failed to respond to our multiple calls and emails. He promised to come by and repaint the cabinet doors that, for whatever reason, he had only been able to get a single coat on (no primer?). In the months since his disappearance, the paint has cracked, which compromises the overall appearance of the wall unit. Moreover, he had promised to replace the hinges with soft-closing ones that he had "forgotten at home." We like Robert, and we like his work, but his failure to follow through is troubling. We were going to use him for a kitchen overhaul, but I have concerns about his tendency for disappearing on folks. read more

I am a first time yelper, but after the work just completed by Robert I had to sign up and write a review. A three prong project that incapsulated fine carpentry, AV and electrical. Robert built for us a custom Hampton Style gate based on 3 pictures I provided him. He synthesized the pictures and designed a gate that is aesthetically amazing, the highest quality of product and very very reasonably priced based on others I spoke to who were going to charge more and use completely "off the shelf" parts. He then re-designed an existing entertainment center that had been in place for 5 years and matched everything perfectly and nailed (pun intended) the use we were looking for. To cap it off he was able to do technical work not even my builder would step up to...install a flat screen TV on a stone fireplace wall with no power or cable by first studying the plans, coming up with his own plan and executing to perfection, thru the fireplace, under a bath, a vanity, behind a medicine cabinet and shower and into the attic... now it looks as if it he was never there..with the exception of the TV. I am in the building/development industry and I cannot speak more highly of a craftsman and thinker then Robert. Not to mention the price he quoted me is the price I paid (actually paid a little less). Feel free to contact me for referrals joeyotoole@gmail.com. The second time Robert has done work for us and he continues to impress. It is no fluke he is all five star ratings. read more

This is my first yelp review and the only reason why I decided to sign up and post is so I can let everyone know how great Robert is. Robert installed the cabinets in our kitchen. First of all, our kitchen looks awesome! It is exactly what I have wanted for so long and I thank Robert for that. He was always on time and has great work ethic. I am an architect, and work with a lot of contractors. He is honest, hardworking, and goes above and beyond to meet his client's needs. I rarely find that in the contractors that I work with. I would recommend hiring Robert if you want to have work done in your home. Thanks to Robert, I will enjoy spending lots and lots of time in a kitchen that I absolutely love! read more

Had Robert put together some counter stools I didn't trust myself in constructing. He arrived on time, worked very efficiently, and now I have non-wobbly stools I can enjoy eating on. Would highly recommend Robert for any woodwork job you might have around the house! read more

Joined Yelp just to leave a review for Robert, who is hands down the best contractor we have ever worked with. He went above an beyond for us installing our Ikea kitchen, fixed work that other vendors messed up during our whole house remodel, and is all around just a great guy and a pleasure to do business with. He is a perfectionist and super detail oriented, our kitchen looks like it cost a million bucks. When he completed the job, my husband and I both said we were genuinely saddened at the thought of not having him around. If you are looking for someone to do your install, you will not make a mistake leaving the job in Roberts hands. I cannot say enough great things. WE LOVE YOU ROBERT!!! read more

My wife and I are currently remodeling our home, as we have done many times with past homes. We first found Robert by chance to install our kitchen cabinets because the guy we had lined up faked on us, as many contractors do. Since I have a working knowledge of the construction process, I was immediately impressed with Roberts work ethic, timeliness, attention to detail, PERFECTIONISM, and fairness. Our kitchen cabinets are in and they look great. We now have Robert "running" the rest of our project. He has installed all of our interior and exterior doors, locks and hardware to perfection. He is currently setting up our A/V system and doing various tasks around the house. Robert is a rarity among the contracting community. If you need detailed, professional work done, HIRE ROBERT! read more

I really wish I could give Robert 5 stars like I had planned all along. We hired him to complete an entire ikea kitchen and bathroom remodel. It seemed as though things were going well, then we started having issues getting ahold of him, our kitchen did get done and is beautiful ,but he bailed on us never to be seen or heard from again right in the middle of the bathroom remodel. We we're not the only ones either. Another customer left a review that he bailed on them in the middle of their kitchen remodel about the same time as us on Houzz.com (which he has now removed his profile from). They said same thing that he just disappeared. My husband and I were actually genuinely worried for him. Thought something awful must have happened to him because he seemed like such a stand up guy. Glad he is ok, but I just can't give him more than 2 stars when he left us with so many pieces to complete. Very puzzling and disappointing. read more

Robert Downs is the best of the best! He is responsive, prompt, punctual and professional! Our initial contact was extremely positive and informative. He is obviously very experienced. He thoroughly explained the process up front and went over his fee schedule in detail as well. His work is absolute perfection and his knowledge and expertise with Ikea products is second to none. I was so worried when I began my kitchen remodel, (especially with the horror stories you hear from others), but Robert made the whole experience smooth and pleasant. He delivered on everything he promised and his work was clean and flawless. When there were minor obstacles, (as there inevitably are with this type of work), he found ways to keep the process moving along and make things work. The kitchen demo was the cleanest I have ever seen and he made sure my home was covered and protected at all times. I cannot say enough good things about him and his work! His standards are the highest and no one's expectations are higher than his. Robert's fees are fair and he met every deadline we set. He is as good as they come and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again! read more
