Robert Downs is a talented and experienced~ more than a handyman. He assembled new and repaired 12 feet of damaged kitchen cabinets that were unnecessarily ripped off my walls by an emergency water damage company. He also repaired my stove and skillfully trimmed a granite countertop. I plan to employ him for future projects. read more

Robert was highly recommended by the designer we found and worked with to help with our new Costa Mesa home design and renovation. We were very fortunate to meet and work Robert and to know that the designer work very well and along with Robert as our head of project (general contractor) and his team and referrals from plumbing, electrician, tiles, dry wall patching, to painting. A team of about 10 and each of them are very experienced and professional. Our two-month renovation project consisted numerous items from small to large including two fireplaces in Living Room and Dining Room, wood wall panel installation, PAX walk-in closet, bedroom door replacement, cabinet doors replacement, baseboard, bathtub glass sliding door, garage demolition and drywall installation, laundry cabinet/countertop/hanging rack, utility sink installation, PAX shoe closet, kitchen hardware replacement, TVs and speakers wall mount, and so on. Robert is very knowledgeable, attention to details, always considering items for long term use, and "zero" cutting corners. He is very thoughtful and takes into consideration from designer's plan and owner's asks and expectations as well as combining his technical experiences to make all projects practical, safe, and most importantly appealing. He is able to pivot when needed. Additionally, he went above and beyond to take care and adjust some of the minor things he saw throughout the house during renovation. Please see some photos (before and after) of our project. We are very pleased with the outcome, and we highly recommend Robert and his team! read more

After a couple months searching for a contractor to give a quote for installing our Ikea kitchen, my husband found Robert. We can't say enough about how Robert works. He was here everyday, on time, leaving our construction zone clean and livable each evening. Due to his experience he was able to guide us through the install and had great recommendations that gave us peace of mind. He was able to seamlessly modify one of our cabinets to accommodate a curved wall that Ikea didn't have a good solution for. In many instances he went above and beyond to make sure our new kitchen remodel was a success. Robert was also excellent at sticking to the timeline that he quoted us. Thanks to Robert our kitchen remodel went super smoothly and turned out beautiful. read more

Robert has completely remodeletwo kitchens for us. When we bought our new home, he was the first one we called. His attention to the smallest details sets him far above other contractors we've worked with in the past. His eye for spatial design when planning a new kitchen is spot on. He has customized IKEA cabinets for us and also built custom wood cabinets. In addition to rebuilding our kitchen completely, he has installed French doors for us, hung chandeliers, set up our surround sound, installed new flooring, baseboards, and remodeled bathrooms. If you are lucky enough to get him scheduled, you won't regret it. read more

I'm glad I had the chance to update this review coz I really like Robert and think his work is top notch. After a year, Robert contacted me and came in to repair the dishwasher door. He's been busy and also had some health issues (though I told him all he had to do was inform people). Anyways, we were happy to see him and have the work done by him. He did a fantastic job as usual. We were moving to a new house in a few weeks and he came over to the new place and did some work for us free of charge! read more

First- his work is the best. I mean flawless. He will tell you what you need what others are doing, what IKEA will tell you and how to respond to them. He knows the products inside and out, better than the employees at IKEA. He is also a perfectionist. Your cabs will come out amazing, I mean really good. Work ethic is just as good. He always was there 10 mins before he said he'd be there. Robert was always waiting on me instead of vice versa. His IKEA plans are spot on as well. Feel confident that when the employees question what he has on the list, the employees are wrong, not him. The stand out moment was when he did a re design at night while I was at the store, to accommodate what they had in stock- IKEA sucks with their stock during their sales... It's really terrible, but he makes it as tolerable as possible to deal with IKEA. Personality wise very cool dude. Easy to talk to and you can be open about what you want, like and don't like. We had him do so much stuff in our kitchen... Raised ceiling, demo, wall removal, cabinets, appliances, design twice, lighting in cabs, ceiling, and under cabs... We had him do everything and it all turned out AMAZING. We had some scheduling problems and he made sure to follow up and complete everything we had agreed to and we are VERY happy with the outcome. First class all the way! read more

I was a little worried about finding a contractor for our kitchen remodel, since you always hear horror stories about lousy contractors, but once my husband and I found Robert, we were trilled to find someone competent and trustworthy He was very clear and up front about his prices (which are really good)-- very prompt in his communication with us-- and obviously cares about the quality of his work. I highly recommend Robert not just in yelp-land but also to my friends. We love our kitchen and totally plan on calling Robert the next time we need work done at our house. read more

Robert Downs - Our Kitchen-- before and after. - General Contractors Near Me

He really is a 5 star guy! I'm always a little weary when I see a Yelp profile with 5 stars on every single review, Robert absolutely has earned and deserves every single star on this review. I setup an appointment with Robert and he came over the same day that I had taken off to meet with the guys(Signature Services) from IKEA, flaked. He looked at my kitchen plans, looked at all of our prep work and gave me a rough quote. Like others have said, he has a great personality and is professional. Robert emailed me later that evening, told me the dates he would be working and when the project would be finished. He was there when he said he would be and the project was done when he said it would be! Robert installed all of the cabinetry, the over the stove microwave, set the refrigerator and dishwasher and even installed our sink/faucet temporarily until we get our counter tops! Robert really came in and wowed me. If you need someone to install your IKEA kitchen, he is definitely the man! read more

The subcontractors who originally installed our kitchen cabinets did such a pathetic job that an entire section began separating from the wall and was getting ready to crash down entirely. All the rave reviews about Robert are TRUE. He is great at what he does and very pleasant to work with. Of all the service providers I have found through Yelp, I can say without exaggeration that he is the best find by far. GREAT WORK. This past summer, Robert installed all the cabinetry, appliances and lighting for my kitchen remodel using Omega cabinets. I've attached a few pictures that speak for themselves. He cleaned up after himself each day and always locked the doors if he was leaving before I got home. Having worked with him for some 3 weeks on the project, I can say with complete confidence that I would recommend him to my family and friends. HONEST. After working with Robert on the kitchen, I basically wanted him to do everything else in the house....but unfortunately Robert is the go to person for some local kitchen designers so he is very, very busy. I was lucky enough to have him install some bathroom vanities for my bath remodel and you know what, this was the first time a contractor ever asked me to pay less than his quote. Robert had given me a flat quote for the vanities, which price I already thought was reasonable. After he saw them and did the work, he said it did not take as much time as expected and reduced my price. I happily paid him before he changed his mind. (I live in Newport Coast so most contractors think that's a license to double or triple their price...it's sad but true). GOOD ATTITUDE. I'm a picky person and notice everything and Robert is detailed oriented, so we make a good team. Robert is also very patient and if I wanted something changed from what we originally talked about, he did it, with no attitude. He also has great suggestions and ideas on how to solve design issues and is always eager to help. He showed up to the job with a smile and worked efficiently. RELIABLE. Now that I've found Robert, I feel I can accomplish many of my remodeling goals without worry. Having remodeled most of my home in the last year, I've worked with many different contractors and always felt stressed on whether they'll show up when they say they will, honor their work such that they'll come back to fix a problem, etc., the feelings of frustration and anxiety go on and on. But Robert actually makes me feel at ease and I know if I need something later on, he'll be there. Don't hesitate to text Robert, but maybe do it in three months after my to do list is completed? read more

I have been meaning to write this review for quite some time now. Robert installed our entire dream kitchen, appliances and backsplash included. We bought a fixer about a year and a half ago and endured an extensive renovation which involved many contractors. Robert was by far our favorite in the process. Not only did he do an incredible job with attention to every little detail, he was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful throughout the process. He offered us ideas that we hadn't even thought of and really made it a good experience overall. He is also competitively priced and affordable. I highly recommend his services! Thank you, Robert and sorry it has taken us so long to post this review. We love our kitchen! It is the highlight of our home. read more

Note. I didn't have work done this is merely my experience trying to get work done. Robert responded quickly came out for quote and showed up on time was at our home for over an hour. We've had Robert do many more projects for us and everything was completed to perfection! Robert is truly amazing and a pleasure to work with. Robert did our kitchen cabinet/backsplash install, we were super pleased by his work. He had fair pricing, was upfront about any additional costs, and he is just a very friendly person. It is nice to feel comfortable while someone is in your home. He also went beyond just our cabinet install and found two leaks in our kitchen, which he fixed and ultimately saved our new kitchen from water damage. We would definitely hire him again to do our bathroom remodel next year! Thanks Robert! read more

Great work and even better stories! Robert did a great job installing our kitchen backsplash. Very affordable and was great to talk to. We recently had a water leak which caused damage to our built in office unit. I did some research on yelp and reached out to several people. Robert was the first to respond to me. He was very personable, easy to work with and knows exactly what he's doing. I was slightly concerned being that most of his reviews on yelp talked about installing Ikea cabinets, but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm glad that I did and am extremely happy with how everything turned out. He exceeded my expectations. I've already referred him out to other people. read more

Unfortunately we had the same experience as others. Robert did a wonderful job until he received the last payment and then was no where to be found after many many calls, emails, texts. Robert Downs very recently installed our Ikea kitchen (job completed just a day before Thanksgiving), and the outcome was excellent. From start to finish Robert was available to provide his expertise and invaluable knowledge of the Ikea products. He has installed hundreds of Ikea kitchens and it shows in his work. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable about the Ikea products, but also is a perfectionist, and the quality of his work is what one would expect from such an individual - perfection! Robert is always easy to reach by either text or cell phone, and always returns texts and messages promptly. Besides his familiarity with the Ikea products, Robert is highly skilled in plumbing and electrical, and remodeled our kitchen ceiling lighting from the old style fluorescent tube fixtures to modern LED lighting. What an improvement! He also installed our new Blanco sink, garbage disposal, and Kohler faucet, and everything works perfectly. There were a few items that needed to be tweaked after the dust settled, so to speak, and Robert came back a couple of times to take care of those minor items. He is very reliable, trustworthy, and honest. We would not hesitate to recommend Robert Downs. Not only is he a highly skilled professional, but also a very pleasant and engaging man. read more

First let me start off by saying that I'm hard to please. I sent out many requests for proposals for installing our cabinets in our dining room that we bought from Ikea. Robert gave the most thoroughly thought through estimate. What we appreciated most was the fact that he is a perfectionist. Every aspect of the job was done with precision. My wife and I couldnt be happier with the job he did. It turned out better than I thought it would. I feel we got much more than we paid for! I give him my highest recommendation! read more

We decided to buy a condo a few months ago that needed some upgrading. I quickly started to plan out the remodel and found Roberts profile on yelp. Since I was planning on using IKEA cabinetry it sounded like a no brained because Robert had so much experience with the product. Well I was right. Robert was nothing but helpful and attentive from the time I contacted him for the initial quote to finishing the project. He definitely knows his shit and as he likes to say as well treats your money like his. So he will offer up solutions that will best fit your needs. The work performed was kitchen demo (wall opening expanded), kitchen cabinet install (IKEA), appliance install (sink, dishwasher, microwave, oven, fridge), 2 bathroom sink/cabinet demos, bathroom cabinet and vanity install. Overall I would definitely recommend Robert to anyone and would use him again for sure. read more

OK... here I go again!! I got a new big screen TV and needed my media center that Robert built a few years ago remodeled. He, of course, figured out how to remodel it without totally tearing out the entire cabinet, saving me a lot of money. I know I sound like a broken record, but he is a real artist and a great person. You can't go wrong with Robert!!! read more

He has a great personality and is very honest, a great quality. He is punctual and very hard working. He was very willing to work around our schedule. We wanted to use Ikea to install our kitchen but their prices were too high and they don't demo or do anything extra. That's when we turned to Yelp to find someone that can handle our demolition as well as installation. Robert does it all! He went above and beyond what was asked of him. He made sure our Ikea plans made sense and came to do a walk through. He found some things needed to be changed and adjusted our Ikea plan accordingly. His work is thorough and is not wasteful at all, after the installation was complete there were some extra toe kicks and hinges leftover so we returned them to get some money back. Throughout the entire kitchen renovation he explained and helped so much with our old kitchen. The electrical wiring was all messed up and he fixed that too. Best decision ever to hire Robert! read more

We could not be happier with the work Robert did for us. My kitchen is pure heaven and I know that it was last a very long time. Robert is extremely precise. He helped me save money on my kitchen and was always offering advice and tips. He even went out of his way to help us with a few other issues we were having with our newly purchased home. I cannot recommend him enough. He did the kitchen, backsplash and the appliances. Everything is flawless. Not only did we save money using him instead of IKEA, I know that I got much better service than anyone at IKEA could have offered me. We had no problems or issues with leaving him to work in our home if we had to go somewhere. He is very trustworthy. I could go on and on, but to but it simply....you can't go wrong. The best built ins ever! We found Robert through a mutual friend and it was the best part of our remodel. He built and installed custom cabinets for our living room and master and they are utter perfection.
