A disappointing experience for sure. The decor and atmosphere is actually quite nice. Food was not bad but not that good either, too pricey in my opinion for the quality (sea urchin uni was mediocre). The worst part was service. They kept in bringing us over and over items which were not ours (the place was not full) while we were desperately waiting for ours. My partner had all her dish while I was still waiting for mine, only to discover they got the order wrong (and they even insisted that I ordered a fish... which I'm allergic too lol). Bottomline, second time we tried it and both times something went wrong. Since it is not a good bargain, we'll pass going to that place, there are sufficient other choices at the Spectrum not to settle for this place. read more

Came on a Friday Night for dinner with my special lady... Everything from service, timeliness and quality of service was no less than 5 stars. We ordered... Salmon Skin Salad (They have a cute-sy name for it-Can't remember it...) Generous portion, generous amount of the Salmon Skin. It tasted great, dressing was the perfect amount. The salad was crisp, refreshing and very very tasty. Squid Ink Uni Pasta The BEST Uni Pasta we ever had... and YES we know our Uni Pasta (Bestia, Jin Bei, EMC, and the few others that serve this dish) Pasta was perfectly cooked, Sauce was flavorful but not too overpowering. An excellent dish. Robata Platter A preselected set of Robata Skewers that came complete with sauce pairings for each kind of skewer. Sushi selection All came out as ordered and delicious. Decided to check out this relocation of a popular Irvine Spectrum sushi restaurant. They moved to the south end of the Irvine spectrum to a much larger location over twice the size of their original location. Their prior location was near the Edwards Theatre across from Javier's. I started off with a couple of special cut rolls. The Rainbow Naruto special roll was my first choice. It was tasty and a perfect Lo-carb alternative. Skip it, the food isn't good enough to cover for the terrible service. We walked in and although there was a lot of staff walking around, we weren't greeted and seated for almost 5 minutes (keep in mind there was no line or people in front of us). Once we finally got seated, got our drinks and had some time to find what we wanted, we waited for about half an hour before we were asked for what we wanted. I felt extremely rushed while ordering and felt a little under pressure due to the overall rudeness of the waitress. The food came at a reasonable time and it wasn't bad at all, it's just that my experience with the service really affected my time there. We both finished our water while eating, and our glasses were completely empty for the rest of our meal despite having our waitress walk by us countless times. read more

Mask is required upon entering and waiting in the restaurant, the table was santized before we sat down and there is ample social distancing in between tables! Delicious food! In harsh times like this I can totally understand the volatility of customer service and quality of food preparation, however, considering the cost this particular restaurant charges for its meals would make you think your going to have a better than normal meal. Too bad Yelp doesn't allow ZERO stars. Service is terrible. Came here for lunch with family. After we ordered our lunch, another server came by to take our order. Bad sign of things to come. After waiting for 30 minutes, the kids plate came out. 15 minutes later, 2 of the 3 remaining meals came out. Of course, my daughter finished her kids plate before our meals came out. We're at 45 minutes at this point. A few minutes later, our server comes by to tell us the 3rd meal will be another 10-15 minutes. By that point we'd had enough and left. Seeing some really mixed reviews from other Yelpers, but my fiancee and I had a great dinner and experience here last Friday. We didn't have reservations and were told it was going to be a 1 hour wait, but that we could get drinks at the bar area/patio while we waited. Overall, would definitely return, especially because the other robata places around here often have 1-2 hour waits. When the spectrum finally remodeled and extended. I was excited to see a new Japanese restaurant here. I've been meaning to try this place and I finally have! And I must say this place has a great ambience, relaxing vibes, and just a good night to hang out with your best friends, dates, or family night out. When you first walk in to the restaurant there's a bar on the left side and then some indoor seating. And I actually got seated outside with my best friends. And I think the outdoor seating is a lot bigger then sitting indoors. But anyway, the decor of this place is wonderful. In my opinion it's really pretty, romantic like, and you'll get everything you'll ask for. Well for night time cause I was there for dinner. I don't know what it's like in the day time but at night the restaurant is pretty amazing in my eyes. BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!! The food! Okay! So... when me and my friends got there we had difficulty choosing what to eat. Cause everything on the menu was amazing! So we first ordered "when the uni meet crab". It's a cold tapas and we ordered this because it looked interesting. What's not to like crab and UNI! Sold! When we received our uni crab. The waiter said it's pretty big but in our eyes it was a bit small or average size. The portion could've been a bit more especially if it was feeding for 3 people. But that's just us. Then we ordered the squid ink uni buns. This was good but could've been better. I think I was expecting too much from these buns. I assumed there would be some stuffing inside the buns. But no :( it was just bread with uni on top and their creamy sauce. Still very delicious but I just expected too much. And for my entree I got the chirashi don. Although I didn't take the picture of it because I was super hungry but I can tell you it was very delicious. Although whenever I order chirashi don they usually give out the rectangle sizes for sashimi but this place they dice it into bite size pieces. So you get more of each in a way. When you order the chirashi don it comes in its own tray with your miso soup and pickled veggies. And of course the chirashi. The chirashi is garnished beautifully in my opinion. And my friends ordered the sushi. One of my friends ordered the salmon citrus roll and my other friend ordered salmon, uni, and salmon belly (by the piece). When we finally dived into our dish after taking pics of our food the fish was very fresh and flavored wonderfully. My friends and I were pretty satisfied with our meals and we will definitely comeback to this place. And next time I would try their udon because I hear great things about heir udon! read more

We went today and was thoroughly impressed with the safety precautions they took with keep their staff and customers safe. Temperature checks at door and all the tables were spaced out and they've created plenty of outdoor dining with heaters. Robata wasa is the plaaaace. I left the gym craving the potstickers, california roll, and the tempura. wow the food was amazing. 10/10! The atmosphere is very small and intimate and very cute. Service was fast and servers were super pleasant and nice. One server in particular was Kait, she was the sweetest girl, her energy was contagious, you can tell she truly cares about the customer's experience while eating and it shows! Chirashi for $22 at Robata Wasa blew me away in the other direction. Two previous yelpers said the same thing that I experienced when a bowl of seasoned rice ( cold & lumpy) topped with tiny squares of sashimi, egg and surrounded by cucumber slices was served in front of me. Chirashi should consist of a variety of freshly sliced pieces of sashimi arranged in a presentable manner. Hey, just take a look at dozens of Japanese restaurants in Irvine that serve chirashi (posted pictures) on YELP. None looks like yours! What I got looked like something that a kid put together for fun to look colorful with the neat squares of fish and egg. Totally not passable according to my standards in comparison with hundreds of chirashi bowls that I've had in the past. IMO, this is a poke bowl with a huge price. read more

This place has great atmosphere & delicious food. My fiancé & I came in on a Tuesday evening around 6:30PM, we were seated right away. The staff was welcoming & friendly. The hostess took our temperatures & sanitized our table before were seated. The service was excellent! We ordered the dragon roll (the eel was delicious), wagyu beef bowl (the beef was so tender), sashimi plate (fish so fresh, you can hear the ocean) & for the heck of it, the lobster tail (it was so buttery, melted in every bite). Each dish tasted amazing (kinda pricey but worth itttt). We also ordered hot sake-- our waiter let us choose our own cups, which I thought was a unique experience that definitely made our overall visit all the more memorable.
