Mag-Co's lot is handily located in a nice area of Broomfield, and if the lot looks kind of unimpressive from the street, well, don't be fooled. This is a place where real work goes on, with no fluff and BS. The shop is run by a nice fellow who took over an existing business, which he now runs with his daughter as office assistant, and they have a heck of a crew, just as honest and efficient and reasonable as the former crew--if not the same. When I followed up multiple times, I was only told they were "still looking." Eventually, I was told the car had misfired and then stopped, but they could not identify the cause or recommend a repair. Any time I had a question, I was told to take it to a dealership. Even after I simply asked if the car was safe to drive, they just said "I don't know. Take it to the dealership." I understand that some issues can be intermittent, but I expected at least basic diagnostic information (such as codes pulled or which cylinder was affected), or a clear next step. They didn't even have anything in writing for me to take when I picked up my car. The lack of communication and unwillingness to provide even an estimate was frustrating and the whole thing was a waste of time.

I called Baseline this morning to see about getting a trailer hitch installed on my Rav-4. Not only was the phone answered in a very respectable way, but they were extremely timely about getting back to me with an estimate. It only took about 15m for them to call me back. The cost of the hitch was 1/3 of what the dealership was quoting me and it was evident by the way the process was being explained and recommended to me that Baseline is very knowledgable. They even made sure to ask what I was towing to see if lighting/wiring needed to be included in the estimate. We chatted a bit about what I needed the hitch for and when I mentioned it was for pulling a u-Haul trailer across the country, they also told me that they could assist in getting a u-Haul reserved because they were an authorized dealer. That was music to my ears, having all of that taken care of in 1 phone call! I scheduled my installation for next week and while I haven't had the actual installation done yet, I have high hopes that it will be as excellent as my initial experience. Thanks Baseline Auto! You made my day a little easier! :)

When the woman who's job it was to do these things finally rolled into work 20 minutes late she brought in her giant dog, it immediately started coming up to me and the other customer. Basically these people are rude, unprofessional, late and possible credit card thrives. Stated simply: Carworks is the best auto care place I've ever been to, and I could not recommend…read morethem highly enough. I first discovered Carworks when some friends of mine stopped in Longmont during their cross-country roadtrip a couple of years ago. Their car was having problems and they were worried it might break down. I asked around, hoping to find a good mechanic who'd be honest and fair, and several people said Carworks was the place to go. It's a local independent business with NAPA/ASE certification (this is the benchmark of the auto repair industry; ASE-certified technicians are the best of the best). The Carworks guys were fantastic. They took a full day to examine the car inside and out, and then got on the phone and internet to research the specifics of the make and model before explaining their diagnosis in full detail. It turned out that, among a few other wear-and-tear problems, some of the cars' electronic sensors were malfunctioning, but Steve concluded it was safe to disable them; thus saving my friends thousands of dollars in unnecessary repair costs and basically stabilizing the vehicle so it could make it through the rest of their trip. As for myself, my car is (thankfully) in great shape and I always take it to Carworks for oil changes and tune-ups so it stays that way. The mechanics are friendly and honest: they've never pressured me to pay for extraneous services to my vehicle and they're always willing to take the time to answer my questions. And as to the furious woman who went apeshit in her scathing review: Lady, if I were in Steve's position I would have turned you away as well. You're pissed at these guys because they wouldn't secure your car trunk with freaking plastic *zip ties*?!? That's a liability! If your car is busted and you won't pay to have it fixed properly, then no mechanic in their right mind would be like "oh okay, well then let me help you tack it together with whatever you have lying around... hmm... zip ties? duct tape? chewing gum? yeah that'll do it. and when you're driving down I-25 at 80mph and big sheets of poorly-secured metal rip off your car and cause a deadly collision, just tell your arresting officer that you didn't know any better because your trusty car mechanic signed off on the 'repair.'" Sheesh. Seriously - I am writing this review because I think Carworks represents exactly what you'd want in auto care: trustworthy, affordable, honest, reliable, and top-notch service. It would be a shame if people missed out on all of this because of one persons' bombastic zip-tie rant.

Update to my original 5 star 2005 Subaru purchase review:…read more The car that I bought at Super Rupair, which I love, had a major engine problem. I am not going to go into details about the problem, but it required a very expensive repair. Expensive enough that I might have had to walk away from the car; the repair cost would have been about 35% of what I had paid for the car itself. While I had only had the car for 6 months and about 7,000 miles, and this kind of problem should not have occurred on the engine as it had been represented at purchase, I am not sure that the vehicle was legally under warranty for this problem. At the minimum it was possibly a gray area. I met with Kirby, who had sold me the car. We had a talk, and he ended up standing behind the car, and did the entire repair for free. I had anticipated a problem, that I would have to at least pay a large portion of the repair. I was so impressed with how Kirby handled the situation, that I offered to pay a good faith portion of the parts cost. Kirby refused the money and handled the whole repair as a warranty issue. I was extremely pleased, relieved, and impressed. Again, I highly recommend Super Rupair!!

Also, it's easy to get immediate appointments ..without waiting weeks..or months, like Flatirons Subaru. BUT...Negative: Beware the $90 "diagnostic charge" add-on. I brought my Forester in when I noticed oil spots on my garage floor. When they put it on the lift, the mechanic immediately saw that my old oil filter was leaking, and performed an oil and filter change. They added the $90 diagnostic charge, even though there really was no "diagnosis" as such. So, I was charged $151.34 for what turned out to be just a routine oil/filter change. Seems like price-gouging to me.
