Some of the best BBQ you can get! This place is a no frills, walk up, BBQ joint. The brisket is tender and fill of flavor. Unfortunate the ribs weren't anywhere near as tasty as they could be. Good flavor but a little dry and tough. Service is what you expect. It's a trailer on a dirt lot. Come up to the window, place your order, pay, and wait until your name gets called. Pretty simple and easy. They have 2 picnic tables and a small confident shelf. This place keeps it simple and tasty. I wouldn't make the drive up there for BBQ but if I was in the area I'd definitely drop by for lunch.

Brisket sandwich with a side of pickle

The brisket is the bomb dot com. The ribs were a little dry and the sides were nothing to write home about. But the brisket.......

Roasted Toad BBQ in the evening light. There might be snow and wind, but they stay open!

After driving up from the plains, it is very nice to have a great BBQ joint to stop at, pick up and go (or stay and eat at a picnic table in nicer non-sub-zero temps). The pulled pork and brisket is succulent. The sausage link is hot as expected. I prefer the platters rather than sandwiches - less bread and gets you the corn bread - I like the sides - this isn't some hoity toity pretentious city place - it's a road side stand with darn good and hearty food. The chili is really good - great substitute for the beans. Reminded me of the stands in Mobile - but a whole lot cleaner. Having stopped here multiple times and been satisfied each time, I'm surprised there aren't more reviews on Yelp. And while there is another BBQ place in town, I think Roasted Toad caters to those headed home or down canyon and not in the mood for a busy atmosphere. Can't wait for them to start serving their breakfast sandwiches! BTW, the portion sizes must growth since the other review; plenty of meat and sides.

    So good

That was the best BBQ I've had. Great price and plenty of food. The brisket was crazy good. Worth the trip up to Nederland.

Probably the best BarBQ stop ever. Beef brisket is amazing and portions are HUGE! Best gas stop coincidence thus far on the journey.

Stopped by at 6:30 on a Saturday night. The owner was very friendly and very informative. My wife got the chicken plate and I got the brisket plate both came with two sides. The food was fantastic and next time I come up here to ski I will stop in again for some good eats.

Best fucking BBQ I've had since moving away from the south, baby.

Good god. Good food. Great BBQ. I highly recommend the ribs and baked beans. The slaw is made fresh daily, and the ribs have just the right amount of caramelization on them. Bright, smokey flavor, good sauce, all around delicious. Only open Fri-Sun and only accept cash!

Excellent brisket and hot links! Brisket has a wonderful tender bark with a juicy smoke ring that almost meets in the center. If you don't know what any of that means, just do yourself a favor and order the brisket.

    Rudest man ever!!!!

It's a tiny little stand l, but the food is just so so good. On top of that the guy serving the food is super cool. Would recommend.

Excellent BBQ. Ribs were especially good. Also really enjoyed the pulled pork and the hot link. Baked beans were the best side we tried.

Excellent BBQ, sauces, sides AND margaritas!…read more We're here in WP for three weeks. This is our second visit to The Smokehouse in the last 10 days. The first time we were disappointed upon arrival when they were out of burnt ends. We're from KCMO and we judge a town's BBQ by their burnt ends. Nonetheless, the brisket, sauces and sides were enough to warrant a second visit. Oh, and that house margarita...chef's kiss! Just what a tired ass mom needs after a long day of "hey moms." On the second visit, I went early at 4PM and ordered carryout. AND a margarita while I waited! The margarita is simple, the perfect size and made with all fresh ingredients. It rivals more notable ones around town. This time, they had ALL the burnt ends and boy, were they worth the wait! I got a one meat platter with burnt ends, collards and Mac n cheese. My husband got a two meat platter with burnt ends, brisket, beans and slaw. We got KC and Texas sauces (they have 5 or 6 to choose from, all inspired by different BBQ regions in the US). Both platters came with cornbread which is the only thing that needs some work IMHO. It's small, dry and not worthy of the calories. But EVERYTHING else was soooo good! Fatty, juicy, flavorful meats. Balanced sauces. And delicious sides! The Mac, collards and beans get an A+, the slaw is a solid B. Service was great on both visits. Friendly, efficient and fast! One thing to note is they have an adorable patio. I've not eaten out there yet but it's well maintained with lots of flowers and good coverage from the sun. Might have to check it out on our third visit!

It was my first time in BH and we weren't familiar with JKQ beforehand. We had such a great experience! The restaurant appears to have been built recently but was made to look like an authentic old-timey Western saloon. The service was great! Our waitress, Denise, was efficient, friendly and fun, as were the other staff (met and chatted with Larry and Jennie too, the chef and other server/bartender). By the end of our dinner, the birthday boy was taking pickle shots with the crew. They were all great and so accommodating of our large party. And let me tell you, the bbq was top notch too and everything was very fairly priced. You have to try the Pitmaster cocktail, which for $8 was a steal compared to drink prices in Denver. I had the sampler platter - for $19 you get 2 proteins, 2 sides and Texas toast. Everything was super tasty! Several people had sandwiches and they looked great too. They also surprised us with a small chocolate birthday cake and some free shot/pint glasses, which was really nice and unexpected. Overall, highly recommend checking out JKQ if you're in the Black Hawk area.

The restaurant is only open Friday and Saturday 11am - 3 pm. This is a very popular spot amongst local, so get here as soon as it opens. We arrived around 11:30 am and there was already a long line that formed. It can take awhile to get to the front, but it's definitely worth the wait! We ordered the ribs and the brisket with mashed potatoes, beans and mac n cheese. We also ordered candied pork belly (not in the attached image). I believe the ribs and brisket are their popular options. Both were very flavorful. The ribs fell right off the bone. The brisket was juicy and tender. However, the candied pork belly was definitely an underdog. It was my favorite meat because it had that sweet and very rich barbecue flavor which made every bite so dreamy. For the sides, I didn't really find any over-the-top, but they were decent. Maybe the mac n cheese was a bit on the dry side, but still really good to pair with the barbecue.
