Roast pork belly sandwich topped with cracklings and apple sauce(£6.50) - so delicious!
    Peggy C.

Adopting the "see a line, get in it" theory of finding good food, we were not let down by jumping into line for Roast to Go. I got the roast pork belly sandwich which was damn delicious - the applesauce goes perfect with the pork, and the crackling is addictively delicious. It's a massive sandwich for £6.50. There is no area designated for eating, so you're on your own to find a place to unabashedly dig into this sandwich (the photos of me eating this were not pretty).

All the reviews on the pork belly sandwich are spot-on! They are generous with the serving, the meat is flavorful and the cracklings are perfectly crispy! It was £10 with chips. There is a long line at lunch but it goes quick. I wish I had an extra day in London to return to this one and try the other sandwiches . I highly recommend!

You have GOT to get you some of dis sandwich!!!!

That pork belly and applesauce sandwich is truly a hidden gem. Listen to my fellow reviewers!! Get that sandwich! The bread is soft and fluffy, the crackling is crunchy and flavourful, and the applesauce adds a little bit of necessary moisture and some pleasant sweetness. It was so good, I immediately wanted another one! I would highly recommend you try this sandwich while visiting London. What a treat.

Roast To Go is the takeaway arm of the main Roast restaurant upstairs at Borough Market. I'm a handy cook and I've always balked at paying the prices demanded in the main restaurant for, well, a roast, which I can book perfectly capably back home However, I was prepared to give the takeaway a go though I had usually been put off by the long queues. However, on a recent visit to Borough Market, I spied that there was no one in the queue and quickly nipped in Once I had looked in the window of the counter holding the meat and saw the crispy crackling surrounding the pork belly joints, there was no need to even think about what to order It's a generous portion. The bun is filled with a healthy amount of meat and apple sauce and topped with crackling. The meat had a good hit of rosemary flavour but a little on the dry side, which was a little surprising as I had got to the stall early in the day when the meat should have been freshly cooked and not dried out under the heat lamps yet Only other shame is that there wasn't extra crackling when I requested some but then again, everyone would want some, wouldn't they?

So I go at 10:50 and there's nobody near but the chef. So I asked if he was open. Yes. But only breakfast fare. So I asked if that was over in 10 minutes, as lunch began at 11, and he said yes. And I said I'd return. And I did return. At 11:05. But I didn't expect that he'd have gotten ready by then. That's when he pulled out a giant slab of roast pork, cut a significant piece, pulled out a big bun, slathered it with a funky applesauce, then combined it all and delivered it to my hands. All in maybe 50 seconds? The result: A pork Torpedo. What an amazingly simple but profound sandwich, There's so much crackling (fried skin) that it's almost tough to eat, but I resolved that by tearing off the tough strips and eating them as a side. Then all your left with is the simple trio of roast pork, soft bread and a delish sauce made from Bramley apples. As I ate mine at a table in the communal park of Borough Market, I saw pangs of jealousy on people's faces, pure amazement in the eyes of passing children, and I do believe a few Jews and Muslims renounced their faith and headed to Roast To Go.

I had done some research ahead of time and knew about Roast before getting to Borough Market. They have a nice restaurant overlooking the market, but you can get a taste of Roast at their to-go stand without having to dine-in, which is what I did. Truth be told, I was trying to find the duck confit sandwich stand, but was unsuccessful since it was sooo crowded and I felt like I was being shuffled down the same aisle over and over again. I probably should've looked for it harder though because the sandwich I got at Roast To Go was just okay in my opinion. I ordered the pork sandwich with crackling and applesauce (£6.50) and I wasn't that impressed. It was a bit dry and needed more applesauce. They are generous with the pork though so that's a plus. However, if I ever find myself at Borough Market again, I'll probably pass on Roast and try a different place for lunch.

You simply must try this place when visiting London particularly The Borough Market- tucked away in the back corner. No where to sit but grab a sandwich and walk the market to scope out your next food to try!

Thought I couldn't possibly handle a pork belly sandwich after a double chorizo sandwich... I was wrong. The porkbelly meat was kind of bland compared to the fatty smoky chorizo I just had, but the cracklings. Oh the cracklings! I still get teary-eyed thinking about them. In one mouthful, you get the crunch of the crispy outer layer of the skin, chew from the gelatinous underside of the skin (god I love that stickiness), and pure unadulterated porkyness from the fat. Finished all the cracklings, or should I say the cracklings finished me?! And then I had to take a nap.

The reviews do not lie!!! This sandwich is simple, but delightfully addicting. The pork is cooked perfectly, the crackling is strangely satisfying and the applesauce pairs perfectly with the perfectly cooked pork belly. Only tip: the over abundance of pork cut in thick chunks can make some bites a bit dry. Ask for extra applesauce on the side and you'll be in heaven. You can't buy drinks at the stall so bring your own!

The absoute best pork belly sandwich I've ever had, and I think I've eaten enough pork belly sandwiches in my life to know what's what. Don't your dare think about getting this without the cracklin. You'd be a fool, and I don't know why they even give you the option to ruin your sandwich by skipping it. If you are at Borough Market and are looking for a great sandwich but aren't so worried about the health of your arteries, you can't go wrong here.

Swinevana? Porkfection? Piggy happiness? Definitely pork candy. As if the Borough Market weren't wonderful enough, there exists this...this sandwich! Everything that pork should be about. Succulent, tender, with the most tasty, crunchy, salty crackling around the outside. I would take a bath in this pork. I think this sandwich impregnated me. The beef is excellent, too, and I enjoyed it. But the pork made me so excited I needed to change undergarments.

The crackling was good but it was too difficult to eat with the sandwich so I snacked on them first.

The friendly bloke who runs this stand apparently operates a few other ones around London including the halloumi and mezze stand on the end of Leather Lane Market. Whilst chatting with him as my wrap was being prepared, I discovered that Victus & Bibo used to be a juice and coffee stand in the mornings and a food prep area for other stands. Currently, they're sorting the inside of this stand to eventually be a breakfast stop for coffees, juices, and porridge, as well as continuing to serve lunch. In fact, rumour has it they've netted a World Barista Champion to serve up the java! As far as the actual grub goes, I was merrily satisfied with my 'lamb bread': ground meat, veg, sauces, with grilled halloumi for one quid extra. It's quite the affordably filling lunch at £4.50 that won't leave you feeling like you just consumed a gut bomb (I'm looking at you, Chilango).

When we visited they only had one option, the amazing halloumi salad (you could choose salad with spicy chicken+ halloumi...or just with halloumi.) As there was only one option, the line moved forward pretty quickly as the two ladies behind the counter quickly threw together amazing salads for all the hungry folks in the queue. I loved it. The salad itself is tasty, the humus is gorgeous, they give you a good splash of yogurt, and both the halloumi and the chicken were perfect.

It's about all they're serving, but trust me, it's enough. The duck confit burgers come with your choice of 3 different cheeses, bleu cheese, raclette, or goat's cheese. Personally, I'm not the biggest cheese fan, and always go for the raclette, as it's milder. What makes the burgers even better is the truffle mayo- and if you're lucky, truffle honey- that they're putting on them, which makes the flavors pop all the more. The chips also come with a huge dollop of truffle mayo on top. One setback I would say to the whole operation is the usual lack of seating wherever these guys are to be found. If you don't have friends with you, that means you need to either only order one thing to hold it with one hand and eat with the other, or make a friend fast, to help share the load. Still, it is one of THE best burgers- duck, or otherwise- I've ever had, so I'm not complaining... too much. At £8 a pop- or £10 including the chips- it may not be the cheapest- nor the healthiest- thing you can find on the streets, but it's definitely worth every pence.

Duck fat fries with truffle mayo £4 (i think?) omgsogood. like too good. I get these as a walking around snack almost every time I see this stand. Perfect to munch on while you're making the difficult decision of what to eat. Duck confit brioche bun £6 duck confit cooked on a flat top with duck cracklin (omg) and your choice of cheese. In order of my preference: goat cheese with honey, blue cheese with honey, cheddar. The bun is griddled with duck fat and the sandwich is built with mustard, onion jam and rocket. It's divine. Also, if you have your phone out and show them you liking/following The Frenchie on social media they'll give you £1 off. Jussayin. Go here.
